Just to think that, at that very place where the video is at 5:25, a bit further down to the left, on Tuesday 31 January at around 6pm, I could have been lying there dead on that pavement. Had it not been for the mercy of God Almighty, Jesus Christ, I would have been stabbed to death most probably. I was crossing the road too by that corner, where the video is at at 8:05, I was going downwards, not upwards just as the content creator did. Cause I can see that he missed the real wrong turn there, and took the right turn instead, good for him. So as I was walking down, with a backpack on my back, I see these two guys behind me, they seemed to be like any other pedestrians on the road, so I thought. They crossed the road to the other side, the other one was saying goodbye to his friend, and he began to run down the street. All of a sudden the one left behind quickly walked in front of me and suddenly stopped and produced a knife. He shouted at me , and made some profanities, claiming that he will be stab me if I make a move. Upon realising that I am being robbed, I quickly took off my backpack and dropped it on the floor, and tried to make a run for it. As I wanted to run on to the other side of the guy wielding a knife, I saw some of his accomplices trying to block me and grab me, I then faced the other direction behind me, I saw more of his accomplices running towards me saying "Um'bambe, u'mbambe"!. Realising that I was now being cornered, I just found myself running back to that guy with a knife, he tried to grab me, but he failed, and I managed to pass him. To my shock, there were many of these guys, say about plus 10. I just had no idea how ,they all appeared from nowhere in a short space of time. By then I managed to escape them, yet one of them stayed hot in my heels, but I outran him. I just could not believe, what had just happened, I was trembling and in shock. Just to think that on the morning of 24th December, the very same thing happened to me, and again I managed to escape leaving my backpack. I had not gotten over the first ordeal, then this happens again, most people dont come out of these robberies unharmed or killed. I was told of some guy who was robbed, stabbed and killed around December time, during that same week I was robbed.Believe me if I had the money and privilleges to leave South Africa, I would have boarded the evening to a peaceful island, that same evening after the second attempted robbery. Just to think that such events, leaves one with a trauma is not a good thing to go through, trust me. Now you have to walk the streets of Jhb with fear, what kind of life, should that be, this country is heaven for crimnals and hell for law abiding citizens, thats just what it is now. I would advice anyone not to go to those very streets that the content creator was walking on, those are really crime ridden spots, stay away from them, especially at night time. Be all safe out there and take all necessary precautions. As for me I am glad that God showed me his great mercy and love, I would not be writing this today, but would have been lying in a morgue, imagine having kids that are still depending on you to raise them, then these scums of the earth want to just take your life and your hard earned money. Peace.

Didn't get off the motorbike many times as my intuition was on alert all the time. Agreed, these are just run down, some say abandoned buildings being taken advantage of by pimps for the trade. That said, care and alertness needs to be done always and everywhere in Jhb as the things you fear are more likely to happen where you feel most comfortable!

Exactly, These guys have no idea how it feels to be at such a place that u are not used to. To some others its home cause they live there.I saw funny faces that i remember in my head even today😀
You couldn’t walk under a bridge in the US, because it would be too many homeless people living there for you to walk, you will have to walk in the streets and hope you’re not robbed
I was born, raised and worked in Jo'burg untill the early 1990's, I see much has changed, not the place I knew. It's a good thing but also a little sad in a way. Thanks.
yes to think back in the 1960.70,80 one cold as a white person walk alone at night there, one would ride train to the station close to Ellis park ,watch rug y , walk back to the staion and ride train back to Joburg main station
my sisters stayed in Witpoortjie , rode train in the 1970s to Joburg staion, leave the car at witpoortjie station, walk as 2 women alone to Amercosa house--Anglo American headquarters ,work whole day and ride the route back ans car would still be standing there,
My parents used to live in Bree street in the sixties. Went to „His Majesties“ club at night and would walk the 9 blocks back home in the early morning hours. Being afraid never occurred to them because JNB was an extremely low crime city in those days. Sad to see the degeneration.
I have lived in Joburg for about 13 years now (stayed in Rosetenville when i first got here) and before I had my own car I used to catch taxis at MTN, Wanderers, Faraday, Bree all these places so I walked these streets but fortunately enough I have never been a victim of crime but know and heard of alot of people who have been. I'm still living around Joburg (West Rand) so i rarely ever come to town and with 13 years experience living in this city I would never walk those streets like you did (day or night) so respect to you for doing that for content.
thats so sweet brother, thanks so much. The things we do for content creation, we youtubers go out of our comfort zones to try give the community what they ask for. Very risky sometimes
The quiet outer parts of jhb cbd are actually not that rife in terms of crime or violent crime. Surprisingly, the inner parts within the vicinity of MTN taxi ranks is where the problem is at.
@@jamesqongo5998 i know everything there is to know about Rosetenville that's why i never got mugged the whole time i lived there, you have to be careful how you move I won't just put myself in danger just to prove a point.
When I visited Joburg nearly 20 years ago, my guesthouse was in Kempton Park. I wanted to go visit the Carlton Center (Tallest building in Africa at the time) so I took a shared Taxi that dropped me off where the CBD meets Hilbrow. Sure enough, I took a wrong turn after getting out of the taxi, turned North and started walking into Hilbrow. I stepped into a shop and they pointed out the right direction for me. It was a weekend, either Sat or Sun. On my way to the Catlton Center I saw a man sleeping in his taxi (probably passed out drunk) and another man trying to get into his car and the glove compartment in broad daylight with people walking by and standing around. The fact that the thief felt so comfortable was unsettling. It really ruined my perception of Africa. Thankfully, the people of Zim changed it again for the better. It was an interesting dichotomy....SA, wealthy yet dangerous whereas Zim, economically crippled, yet dignified. Anyway, I went to the Carlton Center and on my way walking back, there were 3 men just sitting near some ragged tarps in the middle of the sidewalk. Upon seeing them, I walked qhickly over to the other side of the street and after I passed them I looked back and was shocked to see that they were now following me. I walked as fast as I could a few blocks until I came upon a well trafficked street with lots of shops, etc and just blended in with the mass of people. As an ethnic Pakistani, I stood out, but to my surprise many of the shopkeepers looked similar to me. In Kempton Park, everyone told me to avoid Hillbrow. But Ill tell you, I much preferred the hustle and bustle of Hillbrow to the deserted streets of the CBD. Stay safe out there.
@@Walk_Africa I can only write it from memory brother; you show us the good and the bad in vivid detail. Thank you for reviving memories and educating those that think there is only bad.
I know those corners bro, End Street (hustlers Street), Durban Street, Nugget street, Mooi Street. those are some of the Dangerous streets of Johannesburg.
You are much safer in that side of town than you would be at Quartz or Bok street my brother😂 Tip: when ever you see lots of taxis or mini buses, that is a safe zone.🙂
If you find yourself "wrong turned" into any underserved, wrong or "bad" neighborhood, DO NOT PANIC!!! Keep your cool and calmly try to navigate your way out while acting like you have been there before. Incessantly repeating "this is the wrong turn" will hinder your ability to get back on track quickly without incident. In this case, the moment you realized it was a wrong turn, you should have turned around to get back on track.
plus dont forget...you arent the center of the universe...so people are probably thinking about their problems, life, pleausure, childre, money ect...not just sitting in a dark alley waiting for the first guy who looks nervous to jump and rob mid day. if your scared...get a knife lol.
...yeah just not there..so what happened to believing what you see? I think I would appreciate an individual who presented a solution with the problem! A problem I might add that if youre a Johannesburger you are already aware of and needs no further convincing!
I can see that is FARADAY bridge that you are under. The famous Mai Mai Zulu dominated area is also there. The sad history about this area is that it was fully industrialized until just after 95,when ANC de-industrialised South Africa, bringing unemployment to millions of locals, in favour of Chinese inferior goods. Very wicked deals were made without the public being aware.
Yes, there's is some truth in your statement. However, the Chinese have nothing to do with what you are saying. The atrocities started and continued incrementally with the Western thug nations and their greedy cartels. Too bad that our own politicians AND BUSINESSES play an active role in all of it!
Don’t be afraid of mlungu who looted everything and gave anc crumbs and blacks free votes. The legacy of apartheid is still alive. The private sector is more powerful than the public. The ANC that you voted for is under the mlungu.
True, South Africa was a super modern and industrialized country until ANC sold off all the patents and industrial firms (ISCOR and Sasol e.t.c). The hyper importing was the final nail in the coffin

South Africa is far much better now than it ever Was massive improvements have been made in suburbs (a lot of new classy ones), roads , rail (mbazima shilowa express ), airports : Tambo Airport is better than many european airports, more indegenous people have access to electricity , the list of achievements is long.
You might be right but the rate of crime and youth unemployment is a little bit staggering.the government needs to address that too I'm always watching on news here in America traveling advisory given out to Americans planning to visit SA to be cautious

That's a tour in Faith you've succeeded in doing. Well Done ! ..Bravo for your bravery is more to the point .You see..I knew these areas once long ago . It's not easy to identify them now through this lens Time and degradation have a partnership in this utterly dismal and depressing portrayal of a once Great City. Towards the end this is amplified in a brilliantly surreal and stark Anvil cloud - a foreboding message across a sky so blue which gave promise.. Once -Long ago. Good, good work here!

Take the Dutch city , Amsterdam, Brownsville, hunts point, dumb , Mott haven are extremely dangerous . London has it's share : Islington, Newham, Hackney, Newham. Danger is everywhere : Europe, Americas, Asia
This is a wrong turn! This was an adrenalin filled adventure! I was on the edge and it was not even me walking those streets. It so sad to see how this once glorious and beautiful city of Johannesburg has deteriorated to a state that is an eye sore. This state of decay goes to almost all our towns and cities which were once beautiful some 20yrs ago. Glad to know you made it out safe through those wrong turns and thanks for sharing
Walk around Hillbrow, I'm born and bred in jozi , I've walked everywhere dodgey, walk Around Baghdad building then I will salute you,the place you walked is the safest part of jozi because it's close to kwa Mai Mai and Jeppe hostel , otherwise prove me wrong

This good man has made some nice videos in other cities of this wonderful country. Very few people have watched those. He went out of his way to exaggerate walking the streets near Ghandi Square and the views went through the roof. Ladies and gents, sensationalism do sell.
Thanks or the vid, im actually in the process of moving to that neighbourhood from pta(closer to work) and you just showed me all tye buildings I've been looking at starting with The Leo😂
The thing about SA Cities, 😂🤣 you realise you've taken a wrong turn immediately!! you don't need to walk a few metres before you realise this. This leaves you with Two options: Option 1: Turn back immediately Option 2: Walk like you belong! (I did this a lot in Durban and Pretoria)
I have made wrong turns myself but you don't need to panic or ask for direction just look for taxis or group of people who are walking and follow them but be aware of your surroundings

I’m literally shaking on your behalf broh🤦🏽♂️ I know exactly how it feels walking around/in those kind of JHB cbd streets. I used to even literally dress down (wear old no name brand clothes and dirty shoes), carry a cheap phone and then stash any money all over myself (some in my socks, very tiny pockets and even in my underwear). I've been working at a body shop for a bit now and extra tips I learned was if you're painting the door, it's better to take off the mirror and belt molding (the trim at the bottom of the window) for a better paint job in the end. The mirror can get in the way, and if you're unlucky, the clear coat could stick in that gap between the door and the belt molding.

yes to think back in the 1960.70,80 one cold as a white person walk alone at night there, one would ride train to the station close to Ellis park ,watch rug y , walk back to the staion and ride train back to Joburg main station
my sisters stayed in Witpoortjie , rode train in the 1970s to Joburg staion, leave the car at witpoortjie station, walk as 2 women alone to Amercosa house--Anglo American headquarters ,work whole day and ride the route back ans car would still be standing there,
My parents used to live in Bree street in the sixties.
Go to bouquet and Verona street late at night or bellavista if you wanna test Rosetenville😂
The quiet outer parts of jhb cbd are actually not that rife in terms of crime or violent crime. Surprisingly, the inner parts within the vicinity of MTN taxi ranks is where the problem is at.

Wow!! Some story there, feels like I was watching a movie when u narrating 😄

U right. Thank u so much for the advice. 🙏
Agree 👍 stay calm.. took n wrong turn and ended up in Jhb CBD, the fear factor for myself, and had a panic attack..doesn't help.

Thats sad..
Mandela sold South Africa
True, South Africa was a super modern and industrialized country until ANC sold off all the patents and industrial firms (ISCOR and Sasol e.t.c). The hyper importing was the final nail in the coffin
