I'm watching not because I own a kayak, but because I'm depressed right now and I watch random interesting videos on UA-cam. I just wanted to say thanks for being apart of my healing process. God bless.
After watching this video multiple times, I rolled my kayak in late September of 2015, during high winds and rough seas, I remembered his techniques and was back in the "saddle" in under 5 minutes without any assistance. My friends didn't even realize I had rolled. Best part? I never did a practice run. Trust me people, this method works! Thank you, Walter for sharing this crucial & valuable tip!
Thanks for this video! I'm going to go to the lake and practice this. I was on the Juniper Run when the water was usually high. While trying to go under a tree limb, I took an unscheduled swim at a location over my head. Thankful to friends, a life vest on and another tree limb a few feet down stream. I climbed in the tree down stream and made it back in my kayak. But, what if I didn't find that tree. Not so easy at 67 years young. Thank again!
Went back to listen, the clear THWOP of his love spuds against the side of his yak will be the only thing I remember as I get enter the water when getting tipped the first time
Excellent and I thank you for posting. Well I have kayak for many years I have never needed to use your technique for re-entering and I will not forget it
I really appreciate the underwater view to show us what your legs were doing. It helps me visualize what I need to do when I practice self rescue. Thank you!
I just bought my first sit on Kayak. I've been out a few times and have wondered what I would do if it ever tipped. Now I know. Thanks for the practical advice! Since it is nice and warm, I'll practice this technique in a calm and shallow part of the river. Thanks again!
Very important thank you, first time I rolled out of my kayak thank GOD it was in my pool I couldn't get back in it was a real eye opener, if you don't know the technique your don in deep water !!!! So hopefully new people to kayaking watch you video its a life saver trust me, scary if you don't know the technique and your in deep water !!!!!!
Excellent video very well explained. Anyone new to paddling a kayak should watch this for their safety. And what a great facility you have there. I've spent the last year paddling on a calm lake but looking at moving on to an estuary soon and I will need to be careful. Watching this video will be a huge help. Thank You.
Looking to buy a fishing kayak as we speak, and I will certainly practice this before I'm in the middle of a lake. Thank you for sharing this with us! Cheers!
I just bought my first kayak this past Saturday. I took it to the lake Monday to test it out. Once on the lake I thought about what I would do if I flipped my kayak so I tried it. I could not get it to flip back over or even attempt to get back in it. I learned the importance of always wearing a helmet too. This was very helpful and I'll try again this coming weekend. Thank you for posting this. You have helped a lot of people.
Walt! Great video brother. I'm the gentleman that purchased you original green Sea Ghost 130...my mother used it a couple times and has decided to sell it and get into a 110. So now my co-worker has purchased the green machine and has been putting it back to work on Lanier in search of a big Striper.
Thanks for the video. You are absolutely right. I thought I could do it easily but when I actually practiced it today I wasn't able to get on the first a few trials until realizing the trick you showed. I will definitely practice it so that I can book back on in a single move quickly.
Superb mate, thank you for this,i retire next year aged 55,& i,m gonna stay active i.e. walking, biking etc & i,m looking at the Zander single seater & this will be the first thing i,m gonna practice 👍👍
Thank you so much for this safety video! A week before we purchased our tandem kayak, a kayaker was lost overnight. I'm interested in learning and practicing safe techniques like this one. This will be my task tomorrow!
We are researching kayaks to purchase now. We are older but in fairly good shape. We will practice this before we take extended excursions ! Great advise!
Great video! I own 2 sit on top kayaks and I HAVE rolled over when not paying attention to surroundings. You described and showed the way to get back in GREAT!
Just bought one and this is the second video for self recuse. Thank you I will be practicing this long before fishing, which I already know how to do. Thanks again.
Great advice! The day I brought my kayak home I put it in my pool, flipped it and got on it in the deep end. Did it twice and it was easy with a sit on kayak. Didn't want to try this for the first time as a surprise.
Thanks for that. I'm looking at getting another kayak right now but have never come off and was worried about it. I'll definitely practice that in safe water now until I get proficient before I go into deep water.
Never kayaked, dont plan on doing it in the near future but it was recommended and I was like this shit could save my life one day so I better watch it
I'm late to the party, but thanks for posting this. I fell out last month and had to tow my kayak to shore because I couldn't get back in. Can't wait to try your technique!
Thank you for this video. The first kayak I paddled was in the ocean dropping a shark bait and it flipped on me. I ended up half surfing half swimming it back in the last 50 yards to shore. I'm going to the pond tomorrow with my yak I bought tonight to practice this and standing up in it.
i paddle most days in the open sea where the current and tide vary often, practise your weaknesses on a regular basis. Depending on your body type (ie) tall and strong) or a bit on the heavy side, there is always a way to get back in, never panic and remember to dress for the water temperature
I used a fishing kayak 2 years ago for the first time. My SO bought it in a flea market. I encounter a hammerhead with just 25 min on it, i've heard that when a person is at risk they would experience the lifetime worth in a second, but for me was all the escenes from shark week that flashed through my brain. It was not very big, but its godspeed and sole presence scare my very soul. I kiss the rocky sand that welcomed me back. Now i make delicious meals, and take care of my flowers, and if i want a fish the market is close, am not made for the adventure...
First time kayaking yesterday. Kayak flipped over, and I had to be rescued. Wouldn't be nice to know about this video and put in a few practices before going out into the ocean.... :)
i paddled bait out last week... 4..5 foot waves... on the way back those waves felt bigger and one picked me up and took me for a nice ride... eneded up flipping on ...12 foot of water all i could think of was ... a big tiger shark is gonna grab hold of my leg any second now... i got on that kayak real quick lol
Should have watched this before I went to Lake Huron because every time I flipped from a kayak I had to clue how to get back in so I would just walk back to shallow water and get back in... Though it was my first time ever kayaking.
Thanks so much I'm wanting to get one and paddling to the shore wit kayak is tiring that would be my first thought get to shore but after watching. This and practicing is a great idea befor things go wrong I love to fish and I kist like that kind of kayak better so it good to know how to remount it thanks ever so much
Exactly what happened to me today. I was for sure I wasn't going to fall in, so I didn't even think to look up tips to get back in. So I just held on to the kayak and waited for help
This is why I’ve been learning about outriggers/pontoon stabilizers. This I good to know but it’s also common sense. If it rolls easy 100+lbs yanking on it will make it roll again.
very helpful I kyack fish the Colorado river and recently was knocked out of my kyack due to a jet skier coming at me getting back in was the biggest issue due to the current of the river I ended up just towing it back to shore as I swam and that ended my day next time I will try this out
Thats my problem. i was pulling up on the kayak. Took my kayak out on the water for the first time. Sat on it, paddled around. But i wasn't going to leave shallow water till i was confident i could reenter. Needless to say i never left the beach area. I'll build confidence in my paddling after i build confidence in my self rescue.
Don't throw your kayak over to flip it, instead roll it from opposit side. It's much safer. You don't want to miss and the kayak hit you in the face and you end up unconscious in the water.
Thanks for the video very helpful to me since I'm new to Kayaking... What kind of life jacket is that? How do I figure out the size of my life jacket, so that it will work properly?
I'm watching not because I own a kayak, but because I'm depressed right now and I watch random interesting videos on UA-cam. I just wanted to say thanks for being apart of my healing process. God bless.
Just saw this, you good?
I love you
God bless you man there's a better day tomorrow...

Can we take a second to acknowledge the fact that this kayak store has a full size pool inside, thats amazing
+SW(is)M also has a white water generator ;)
SW(is)M Hayden
I loved this store when I was living on Dawsonville and fishing Lake Lainer.
You can't hide money....
Very cool!

I watching this because I'm getting a kayak. Safety is your number one priorty.
Yeah like you don't want to pull out your UA-cam whilst in the water learning how to get back in heheh
Great tutorial. But I gotta admit I lol'ed at 3:11 when he smacked his junk against the kayak. You can hear him say ow but he played it off nicely.
Went back to listen, the clear THWOP of his love spuds against the side of his yak will be the only thing I remember as I get enter the water when getting tipped the first time
It's running again, just a little dented!
That's why you need to by duluth's underwear!
Its definitely his knee and someone in the background talking but i still lol'd
Thank you! The highest number of boating fatalities involve people out by themselves....great lesson!
Excellent and I thank you for posting. Well I have kayak for many years I have never needed to use your technique for re-entering and I will not forget it
I really appreciate the underwater view to show us what your legs were doing. It helps me visualize what I need to do when I practice self rescue. Thank you!
Thank you, I am glad it helped. Safety first.

Never thought about getting back in the kayak once in the water, I do now. Great Video thanks.
Superb mate, thank you for this,i retire next year aged 55,& i,m gonna stay active i.e. walking, biking etc & i,m looking at the Zander single seater & this will be the first thing i,m gonna practice 👍👍

+Frank O'Bryant you are very welcome Sir.! I am overjoyed that this helped someone in a real world situation.
Thank you so much for this safety video! A week before we purchased our tandem kayak, a kayaker was lost overnight. I'm interested in learning and practicing safe techniques like this one. This will be my task tomorrow!
Thank you Sherry, you will enjoy your time on the water. Have fun and stay safe!
I don't own or ever plan on owning a kayak, but I found this video to be well done and at a good pace. Thanks
We are researching kayaks to purchase now. We are older but in fairly good shape. We will practice this before we take extended excursions ! Great advise!

pretty good instruction. Watchable, no BS, just a good video.
+trut hurts thank you Sir
"it could hit you in the face and that's not the way to get in" LOVE IT.
I’m fairly new to kayaking and have just bought a fishing / sit on top kayak, this upload could potentially save a life, thanks 👍
Just bought one and this is the second video for self recuse.
Thank you I will be practicing this long before fishing, which I already know how to do.
Thanks again.

just got my first kyak. this was exactly what I was looking for. great video!
Got a kayak for Christmas, looking forward to using it this summer. Its my first yak, I'm a noob.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for that. I'm looking at getting another kayak right now but have never come off and was worried about it. I'll definitely practice that in safe water now until I get proficient before I go into deep water.

Tagträumer ditto.
You know... "Just in case". LoL
The best instructional video on UA-cam. Thanks!
Thank you
That's quite an exaggeration.
Nice. I'd kinda wondered about this, but only ever floated a lazy river a couple of feet deep.
I'm late to the party, but thanks for posting this. I fell out last month and had to tow my kayak to shore because I couldn't get back in. Can't wait to try your technique!
+abby kite your welcome, hope this helps you much

Great video!!!! Thank you so much. Also Nice pool in the store. Very cool
I am getting my first kayak in 2 weeks and I'm watching different vids on them and this was helpful
Great video Walt... Very informative. Going out to Key West next week and I needed to watch this video, "just in case". 💯
Getting my first kayak this weekend and want to say thanks for the common sense video! I will be practicing before anything else, then it's fish on!
Thank you for this video. The first kayak I paddled was in the ocean dropping a shark bait and it flipped on me. I ended up half surfing half swimming it back in the last 50 yards to shore. I'm going to the pond tomorrow with my yak I bought tonight to practice this and standing up in it.
i love that you have used a redfish. i have the same
Very informative. Never been kayaking but this video makes a lot of sense
best video I have seen yet, definitely will share this to others
Thank you
This video will actually save a life
Thanks, I hope it helps save lives.
i paddle most days in the open sea where the current and tide vary often, practise your weaknesses on a regular basis. Depending on your body type (ie) tall and strong) or a bit on the heavy side, there is always a way to get back in, never panic and remember to dress for the water temperature
glad I saw this. will be yak'in soon and he brought up some excellent points.
great video....about to purchase my own kayak and this is sooo helpful. I will def. be practicing before heading out.
Thank you very much. You will not regret getting into paddling.

For the beginner ocean kayak fisherman its a very good idea to practice this skill before going out with all your gear
Excellent and informative piece.
Thank you,
Very useful information thank you ! Beginner kayaker almost tipped today n that let me here
Good idea to do this and don’t panic if you flip out. Good video. God bless.
Should have watched this before I went to Lake Huron because every time I flipped from a kayak I had to clue how to get back in so I would just walk back to shallow water and get back in... Though it was my first time ever kayaking.
nice vid! just bought myself one and could have used this knowledge yesterday
Best vid I've seen so far on this! Hope I never need it, but I'll practice it!
Thanks for sharing educational life skill survival techniques.
Thank you for this video, I'll make a point to practice this next time out
Thank you, keep an eye out for some neat stuff coming in the future. The best way to know when they are uploaded is to subscribe.

Yeah, much better than my technique, which requires a lot more energy. Thanks for the video.
+Brian C thank you. Have fun and remember life is an adventure!
Here in Florida that can be your worst nightmare especially with alligators. I wish i had a pool to practice in !
Exactly what happened to me today. I was for sure I wasn't going to fall in, so I didn't even think to look up tips to get back in. So I just held on to the kayak and waited for help
Glad you were able to get back to shore safely . Being knowledgeable and prepared for what may happen is what this video is all about.
This is why I’ve been learning about outriggers/pontoon stabilizers. This I good to know but it’s also common sense. If it rolls easy 100+lbs yanking on it will make it roll again.

great!! I'm new to kayak. I like your teachings
You are right...I have to practice this

Anyone else here not even own or use kayaks but thought itd be good to know anyway?

I've practiced this many times as I am the youngest of 4 brothers
Harry Ballzac how many times I was purposely tipped by them
Harry Ballzac you really didn't get that lol
no one got it jonny... your career as a comedian is over.
I am the oldest of 1 brother. Is that something?
@@Jafmanz i got it
This has happened to me. Thanks for the video.
I’d love to see a video on how to get back in a Native Slayer Max Propel drive ( not so much room as an open kayak )
thx for the headsup I will keep this in mind
You will fall out of your kayak, it is a challenge to get back in. Especially if the water is cold or moving fast.
+CalsVidsKids Wise words Sir.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Excellent video mate thanks!
I am learning to swim specifically so I can go kayaking :-)
Thats a good idea and i recommend you to use outriggers.
Wear your pfd 100% of the time.
The voice of experience! ✌️
Great advice and really good demo.
Don't throw your kayak over to flip it, instead roll it from opposit side. It's much safer. You don't want to miss and the kayak hit you in the face and you end up unconscious in the water.
Thank you for showing me this.
awesome demonstration. thank you
Thank you Martin, Look for some neat stuff coming in the future!
I Will. Cant wait
Thanks for the video very helpful to me since I'm new to Kayaking... What kind of life jacket is that? How do I figure out the size of my life jacket, so that it will work properly?
Video starts at 2:50.. You're welcome
What was that hat glued onto his dang head?? I can't even keep a hat on in general lol
