Camerra movement - to reveal something new or follow the action. Otherwise, keep the camera still.
Dolly in - to focus attention on something. Dolly out - reveal the context or leave a subject. Dolly back or forward - follow moving subject or show path through obstacles.
Pan left or right - follow the flow of something or switch attention from one thing to another.
Tilt up or down - show verticality or follow action.
Truck left or right - follow flow of action or uncover hidden element. Emphasise horizontally.
If you concentrate on efficient blocking beforehand you can cut down on camera movement and let the subject and action make the moves. It's more motivated that way.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I've been thinking about making a video going into more detail on this very topic at some point. So thanks again; you've got me thinking.

I graduated from Full Sail in Digital Cinematography. This video is meat and potatoes! Thank you for a reminder that the basics are still important!

Helpfull and straight to the point video, thanks. Camera shakes and composition are fundamental basics, that I often forget. Espesially when filming live bands, I get stressed and start moving camera everywhere to catch the coolest bandmember-moves all the time just ending up in a lot of caos, and having to rely on the tripodcameras on the sides, making the video dull to watch. I subscribe ;-)

Could be helpful to have one or two other people with you when filming a live event like that. Then make a plan for where/what each person is going to focus their attention on. Then maybe still have some locked off wide shots on tripods that you can always cut back to from time to time. Thanks for watching!
