Your the best , am Network Engineer in kenya running my own company and your videos help and encourage me alot. God bless you and your family. Have a great time at the beach and happy happy anniversary
Grace & Peace 2 U and Good day from Sunny central NC! Thank U once again 4 a great and informative video! As usual, I always enjoy your videos, especially when hardware config is involved! You're a great teacher! I do wanna ask for healing prayers today. I had to have surgery this past Friday and all went well, To God be the Glory! and please keep prayers up or my family in Asheville and western NC as a whole! Thanks so much and I appreciate all tat U do 4 us! God Bless! 🙏🏽
I'm sure the software engineers are all putting descriptive comments and descriptions in their code so that future programmers will be able to decipher whatever spaghetti code they kludged up. Or... Maybe not. :-) God bless!
We just acquired three plants all Extreme networks. First for me were all Cisco on the existing plants. Your videos come in handy. Thanks for your videos.
I was looking forward to the AP420's because they were so light. And now, these 5020's are every bit as heavy (slightly more so) than the 3935 and 3965's! God bless!
Wow those are big, I'm just rolling out a building with about 80 Cisco 9164 APs. This will be our first 6E rollout. Should be interesting to see how that goes.
They are big. They weigh 3.3 lbs each. They are designed to hang from the t-bar in the ceiling tiles but we may have to add some reinforcing wires. God bless!
Interesting video. I try to watch you regularly. But...I want to mention something that may be helpful. The AP's that you have that are mounted on the wall, they are mounted wrong. Most all indoor AP's that have that general shape are required to be ceiling mounted for proper signal propagation. If you want to visualize what's going on think of the wireless signal coming out of the AP as a very large donut. With the AP being mounted on the wall, a good portion of the signal is going into the ceiling above and the floor below the AP. The rest of the signal concentration follows the wall in each direction. Of course the AP's you have are working, a portion of signal pretty much goes everywhere, but for best performance and range, they should be mounted on the ceiling.
Most of our production APs are mounted in the ceiling. I'm aware of the torroidal radiation pattern. However, in some places it's just not possible. All our floors are steel so not too much issue with APs on different floors interfering with each other. However, it's not optimal. In our IT department that older AP was mounted there by the guy I replaced. I added the one hanging from the ceiling. Going forward they will all be mounted horizontally. God bless!
I would use a POE switch in a closet and just stack the APs. Power them all on and just import the CSV. To have like 10 APs done in parallell. And then just read the serial number to put your internal name/label on the units. Not an extreme guy as o probably know but that's how I would do it in general
Yeah, you can add as many as you want via CSV. But it doesn't give you the option to point to a local controller when you do it that way. That's a bug with their website if you ask me. If you manually enter the serial numbers (via cut and paste) you can do 10 at a time and it does let you point them to your local controller. I'll probably use that method. It's just that it takes them 25 minutes to check in! God bless!
Cybersecurity noob here. Love your videos! Just wanted to say that I'm not 100% sure you want to be showing us all that wireless network info on your second screen. Assuming that all that information pertains to your network, and that this video and that information is not a clever honeypot, I've just gleaned some interesting and useful OSINT about your network. Enough to start a simple network diagram and maybe even useful for laying the foundations of a social engineering attack. Anyway, I could be wrong but I thought I'd say something just in case.
And the APs don't have to upgrade their firmware at the same time as the controler? In Cisco you have to update the AP firmware at the same time. Which means downtime
There are two settings in the Extreme wireless controller. You can have the AP's upgrade immediately after the controller upgrades, or you can do a controlled upgrade and select the AP's you want to upgrade. Also, you can minimize user impact whereby the AP's will offload their clients to a nearby AP and then upgrade. Then that AP will do the same thing. It's pretty slick. God bless!
Since the network mask is assigned by DHCP I know it's correct. Turns out I am just not patient enough. It took almost 25 minutes for the AP to check in with the cloud and then be told to check in with my local controller! Man this is going to be a whole lot of not fun! God bless!
Amazing that your place lets you waste that much time trying, learning and guessing. A proper admin would have read the release notes and device requirements, minimum, before simply plugging it in and hoping/guessing, having to call support for a documented known issue/requirement.
When did I ever say I was a proper admin? Tell me the last set of release notes you read word for word beginning to end? We skim. It's what we have time for. You do you and I'll do me. God bless!

Jambo, Nelson! Thank you for watching and God bless you and your family as well!

We've been praying for all the storm survivors in western NC, eastern TN, and northern GA. Especially Asheville, Bat Cave, and Lake Lure. God bless!
Glad to hear Network Enginers document everything, where as Software Engineers will never haha!
Thank you for the Sunday video, God bless!

The basics are all the same. Just have to learn a new language and a new way to do the same old things. God bless!
I love these videos ... as someone who is trying to get into the I.T. space it feeds my itch for tech and informs me at the same time.
Wow, you still want to get into IT after watching my videos? God bless you!
Another Helpful video, have a great anniversary next week!
Thank you! Will do! God bless!
5020! Amazing AP! Those are great, and the 3935 used to be a complete workhorse!!
I was looking forward to the AP420's because they were so light. And now, these 5020's are every bit as heavy (slightly more so) than the 3935 and 3965's! God bless!
Im replacing my old Aerohive APs with these. They work well. No complaints.
Oh, I'm sure my users will find something to complain about. God bless!
I would like to to say that you are a great asset to your company. Thanks for a nice calm video.
Well, given that another commenter told me that I'm a lousy network admin, I think I'll go with your comment. Thank you! God bless!
I can’t imagine who would say something like that. You are a very down to earth person and a true caring person who does a great job.
Meh. It takes all kinds. I'm pretty happy with who I am so let them say what they want. God bless!

Correct unless it got external antennas.

Cool, yes il stay with my unifi setup ....... but great video as ever, nice to see we all in the same boat...
I go with Extreme because it's what is here. If this were a Ubiquiti shop, I'd be unboxes those AP's. :-) God bless!

Much appreciated. It's a fine line I walk. To be 100% secure, I'd have to stop making videos altogether. What's your opinion? God bless!
God Bless 🙂
God bless you too!
Sweet, those things look like monsters !!
3.3 lbs each! They are chunks. God bless!
Maybe it is due to pairing?
Congratulations on the anniversary.
It just took a long time. 25 minutes! I've been told that this is expected behavior! God bless!
Exciting stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it! God bless!
No video for next week, enjoy the anniversary and congrats!
Unless you like ocean videos. God bless!
that thing is so big it looks like a robot vacuum lol
Most descriptive comment of the day! I'm going to tell our sales rep that. God bless!

have you checked the network mask??
