Montserrat was so generous in concert also. Once in London at the ROH she must have sang 6 or 7 encore. Sometimes the encore were as long as the concert itself. To experience Montserrat on stage was thruly amazing. And she loved to laugh. One night in english she wanted to say something but it came out with a double sense and she could not stop laughing for a good 5 minutes. She was just a wonderful , warm and charming person. One of the great soprano of the 20th century. Her Norma at Orange in France is part of the greatest moment in opera of all times. I keep listening to you all the time Montserrat. Thank you so much.
Did you notice how she took care over the flowers? She didn't just glance at them, but made sure they were placed carefully on the floor and not casually discarded. After god knows how many hundreds/thousands of bouquets she'd received by that stage she was still acknowledging the appreciation her audiences felt for her. She was a true diva, without all the negatives traditionally associated with that position.
In London at the Royal Opera House during a concert in 1981 at the end of the evening during one of her encore , people started to take pictures of her on stage with their cameras using flashes. She just said very nicely " please no flasher". Then she realised what she had said and started laughing. The entire audience joined in and she could not stop laughing. When Montserrat got the giggles you knew when it started but you never knew when she would be able to stop. I can still see her leaning on the piano trying to continue her concert. Every time she got ready to start singing she just burst out laughing again. It must of lasted a good 10 minutes. God bless you Montserrat.
She is always a delight. I hope somewhere in heaven she knows how much beauty and joy she has brought onto earth, and just how loved she was and still is. So grateful for her!
