I know Marilyn and Joan enjoyed a long partnership, but Caballe and Horne, wow! I came together late, but better late than never! Their Semiramide is legendary!
This was great to hear and see them together, true pals. Harsh to feel these two greats have left us to the other side of the veil. Heaven must be a glorious sound!! 💜🌹💜🌹🎼🎵🎶
And to think that the American Opera Society was presenting LUCREZIA BORGIA for Marilyn Horne to see if she would transition to dramatic soprano when she had to drop out. And who replaced her: Montserrat Caballe! But I thought that Horne only sang this with Sutherland???
Montserrat much better than Joan.... Montserrat did Borgia at Carnegie in 1965 American debut....25 minute standing ovation and I believe RCA signed her that night or soon after
@@Twentythousandlps That's because the day before they both sang Semiramide, so given how tiring, difficult and ornamental Semiramide is, they didn't want to over exhaust themselves here.
Please bring back these days.
If only we could...!
Montserrat's voice became more beautiful the older she got.
I love the way these two friends love each other!!!!
I was there. Very young, but mesmerized by these two incredible voices. The weather was perfect, as I recall, and the mood was relaxed and serene.
You were very very lucky. That was the year I was born, much too young to witness that great era.
You were so lucky, which was that year?

Montserrat Caballé is magic
Sublime!!! Vocal perfection!!!! Love these two ladies, La Superba and La Horne!!! 💜💜
Just devine, Montserrat the best ever and Marilyn her beloved friend ❤️ ♥️ 💙
This was my first Opera in the Park. An incredible afternoon and I was sitting not too far from these two great singers
Viva Caballe!!!
Two of the greatest ever at their craft. And Kurt Herbert Adler, doesn’t get any better! And I was there! My first Opera in the Park!
Smart and lucky you!!!
I was a kid when I attended this concert in SF. It was spectacular!
heavenly duet

Last I checked, Marilyn Horne is still among the living. 88 is tough, but she’s still breathing according to Wikipedia. Lol
@@harrywinfield5119 Yes indeed, still going strong!
Due meraviglie! Bravi!
We can feel he pleasure they have to sing together.
Marilyn's range is incredible. She is what an opera singer is and should be all about.
Except she had a wrong ugly emission...
Just beautiful ❤️
so easy and relaxed
Amazing 🤩
Perfection 🎊 🎉bravo
Both were great ❤
What a time!🥰🥰

Fortunately that band shell on the music concourse of Golden Gate Park wasn't demolished after being damaged in the earthquake eight years later.
Step and half lower!!! C comes at the end by Norma.
In my 60 years of opera loving, that is my trilogy: Montserrat - Maria - Joan
Maria? You mean Callas?

Kurt Herbert Adler is conducting. This is transposed a half-tone down from the usual E-flat.
It's written in the key of F
Not Eb
Rugby8 is correct that it is actually written in F. I am correct to say it is usually done in E flat. And that here they did it in D.

Interesting, makes sense. But I wonder how they had orchestra parts in those keys.@@theonlygoodlookinghabsburg2081
