Joel, if you want to travel that distance (& many days as a long distance lorry driver I could travel around 550 to 575 on a hassle free day) then I suggest you choose something with reliability, like a BMW X5 or an ML Merc, 250 or 350, they do not let you down buddy !!
That's alarming. I was only in John O'Groats last week. In a Range Rover! The difference was, it was a 13 year old L320 RR Sport TDV8 and it did about 1400 miles over the week and literally the only thing that went wrong was the cruise control flipped out and refused to work. Just needed an ignition cycle and it was back in business and behaved for the rest of the trip. They don't all break down.
13 years and the cruise acting matter of time before it breaks down. I had a 2002 330d which had over 150k miles drove to Amsterdam countless times with no issues. Range rovers are 💰pits I love the presence of them but for something that's almost 100k reliability should be much better
Lots of Range Rovers on eBay etc with well over 150k miles. Looking after them properly helps. A lot of people don't understand that just sending the car for an MOT every year isn't enough. I've had this one just over a year and I've changed all fluids (engine oil/front and rear diff/transfer case/gearbox/coolant & brake fluid) as well as having the air con serviced and a set of new tyres, disks and pads front and rear. Up to press, the only issues that I've had is 2 door latches (common fault covered under warranty), alarm activations (bonnet latch. Another common fault £15 to fix) and a puncture! They're lovely cars. They just need a little more TLC than most.
@@zamaanrana1 The irony is, if you look into it, the least reliable of all Range Rovers are the one with BMW engines in them. I've had 2 BMW's and one Range Rover and the RR has given me the least issues.
@@JohnBaxendale Very true. I think the ones with the BMW engines in are responsible for a lot of the bad press the marque had over that period. Sadly, it seems reliability on the more modern stuff is questionable in some areas again as well.
As much as I appreciate the production values here, can we just take a moment to discuss the logic? Car has issues. Overrides the software. Car starts to smell. Pulls in. Does nothing. Car is leaking. Has a kip. Drives again. Pulls in due to visibly moving fuel needle and unarguable smell of fuel. How unsafe is all this?! Assuming it is a diesel leak and safe to stay in a leaking car, wouldn't it have been wise to call the AA and then get a kip in while you wait? To have driven on that second time is just stupid. Very irresponsible. I know its not your car but what about all the motorcyclists behind you on that motorway who are now at risk of skidding on your spilled diesel?
Second this comment, on both the quality of the video and the irresponsible decision to keep going. Diesel is lethal for motorcycles, really disappointing.
Hey Joel!Great video! Thanks for posting it. I've always heard bad things about Land rovers. Gives me reaffirmation to never buy one of those pieces of shit! 🤣

Disagree. Locking me out of the car, brake calipers locked on in cold weather, limp mode at random times, adaptive headlights not adapting and blinding everyone on the road... all things other manufacturers manage to make work most of the time
@@tonybhogal8112 I find with my Range Rover (L405 5.0 Supercharged lwb) is that if you service it well it will last. I get mine serviced every year and I get the full lot done. They did find a leak but it was replaced within the week and so far, it’s been bulletproof.
@@jackjoyce1744 mine was Serviced religiously, never very skimped on servicing and maintenance, didn't make a blind bit of difference... utter garbage

Great video as always Joel. I’m gutted that you didn’t achieve your goal, but it was a great video nonetheless. Thanks again for your efforts 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the vid, great car and scenery, keep em coming.
mate your presentation skills have improved massively since i started watching you. can imagine watching you on tv in the future keep it up
hope there were no bikers falling on that spilled DIESEL! as for sleeping in a car, when I go covering RallyCross I sleep in my B8 Passat estate. love the video.. I need to do some trips to Scotland.
Joel you are new to me on UA-cam and I can honestly say that you are right up there with the best. Watch Speedtape Films - Cockpit Casual to see another top high end UA-cam production. Who needs Amazon Prime or Netflix?
Cockpit casual is one of my favourite channels! Thanks for the kind words…
Great video Joel 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
White Range Rover, private plates, XL dog in the back and parked outside your council house. Nice! 😅😂🤣
Now this is why UA-cam was invested. Interesting videos. I was hooked all the way and your delivery is natural and flawless. But next time, please do take a Land Cruiser Prado
Fuel and smoke exiting the car. Its is a race against time.......Joel....going to have a nap. Jeez. I would have phoned the garage and then slept whilst you are waiting 😂😂 great videos. Love em.
One channel that made me love rovers. Its amazing 👏 😍
Great video! This long-form video works great with your style! What a treat to wake up to 😁
This has confirmed two things for me - 1) Land Rovers are incredible to look at. 2) I've now ruled it out for my next car! Cheers Joel 😅
Hahaha
Great video.
Sorry to see the best off reader off the road again!
Ignore the hater comments, it’s a really enjoyable well presented video.
Porsche Macan ;-). Job done. Good video! Well done Joel 🙂
Great video Joel. Would have been nice for you to make it to lands end... looking forward to more of these challenges. Been a fan since the BMW trip from Scotland
Thank you for watching
Absolutely epic video. Top notch content as always 👏👏
Thanks so much
been here since the original z4 days, still loving the channel.
Joel, if you want to travel that distance (& many days as a long distance lorry driver I could travel around 550 to 575 on a hassle free day) then I suggest you choose something with reliability, like a BMW X5 or an ML Merc, 250 or 350, they do not let you down buddy !!
thank you very much / totally appreciate your honesty. i still want one , an L405
Anyone knows the smell of diesel and I'm sure bikers appreciate you getting back out on the road spraying it everywhere, absolute carelessness.
They’re absolutely wonderful pieces of machinery, and wouldn’t have half the appeal if they never broke
Didn't expect to say this but you have proven a old bmw is more reliable than a new range rover
Yesss Mr Birmingham Racing nice to see you in the comments section!
you realise that this said "new range rover" is a 6 year car, any 6 year old luxury car is bound to have its issue
@@djmaxwell1325 mate stop having a go at Mr Birmingham racing
Great stuff Joel, always show the failures so we can enjoy your successes even more. Chin up 👏
I happen to be watching this in South Africa on June 21st. Our winter soltice
Scotland has the most magnificent scenery,!
Great video/mini movie! Nail biting stuff! Lucky fix!
I had the main diesel line go on my VW Transporter, drenched the electrics, total shutdown! Easily fixable and close to home luckily, not the middle of nowhere!
The joys of motoring 🙂
Brand new Ranger Rover and it's plagued by problems? Sadly it sounds about right.
