When i think of football, Messi comes in my mind, he is the definition of football, he will and always be the G.O.A.T and will always be my favourite player. Call me an idiot but to compare Messi to Cristiano is really unnecessary. He is just too good, in a league of his own.
Look at the precision at everything.. at dribbling, long and short passes, the vision, the free-kicks, the finesse curvy shots, the finishing, the technique, the positioning, the agility, the balance, the ball control, the reactions, the pace, the team work.
I do agree that his finishing, penalties and Stamina aren't as they used to be but he is more mature now, he understands the game better and he is even better at decision making. He knows when he should go deeper and when to be in the box. He knows when to run, he knows when to press the opponents and when it's unnecessary to do so. He knows when to pass and when to shot, he knows how to seize every moment when he gets the ball and every moment when he doesn't have the ball. Bottom line is, he knows how to save his energy for the right moment. He should practice his penalties again though, he misses them more often nowadays.
I also agree that Cristiano's physicality is better but at the end of the day, Messi goes to the ground way harder than Cristiano and that what matters. He gets grabbed, he gets kicked, he gets kneeled, he never gives up. You can clearly see it when he is taking 3~4 at a time and he does it without diving. He controls his temper too when he's pressured.
Cristiano's shots are more powerful but still, at the end of the day, the shots per goal ratio of Messi is way better than Cristiano because he excels at shooting with his left leg while Cristiano uses both legs but his shots aren't as accurate to find the net more often. He rarely aim at a difficult angle to make it hard for the keeper to save, he shots powerfully and wishes for the best. He is poor at decision making and he often shots from long range although his team mates might be in better position to make a better chance at the goal. Such things matter for the team. He is hungry for the goals and the records, i get it but Messi looks for the bigger picture. He is hungry for the win and the titles AND he scores a lot of goals too. To sum it up, every player would like to have a player like Messi in the team.
Messi's jump is quite good for his size but still, Cristiano is obviously way better at heading the ball. I don't think it's enough advantage though to compare him to Messi. You have a guy who is complete in every ASPECT of the game and a guy who just scores goals. If he doesn't score, he is invisible. Goals aren't everything. Goals are a collective result for the build up play of the team. Messi gets involved nearly in every goal. He drops deeper, he dribbles, he opens spaces for his team mates, he makes useful runs for his team-mates, he passes, he assists and he runs into the box to score. He shows up even if he doesn't score. Goals win you titles of course but the question is, how important is the goal?! How decisive the player was when the team needed him?! How much did you contribute in the goal?! I do realize that it takes very good positioning from Cristiano to score those tap-ins unless every player would score those tap-ins and that amount of goals every season and hey, Messi scores tap-ins too. They aren't forbidden, a goal is a goal but there is a huge difference between what Messi does in the build-up play before the goal and what Cristiano does before scoring the goal. As plain as that, you be the judge when you watch the next match.
