Those last two notes from the Hardanger are addictive.
The music between these two musicians is so special, great upload thanks a million ...
The first tune, Miss Longford, is actually more commonly known as the Lass of Carracastle.
Incredible how just two musicians can make this music that has been around for so many years sound so fresh and vibrant; this is what I call raising the bar. And when Caoimhin kicks in with his Hardanger, the bar goes sky-high.....
Glad to see Frankie's legacy living on!
Awesome and humble at the same time.
Lovely way to see the old year out, new year in! Thanks.
It's hard to tear myself away from this one! One of the best pipers ever & Caoimhin is a one of a kind fiddler too!
I love this... What a joy!
Such a lovely set played with great talent...
the last tune, 'gees in the bog,' is also a well-known jig. the reel heard here is a derivative of the jig version, and when played as a reel it is also commonly known as 'lad o'beirne's favourite." interestingly, the jig is in C and the reel is in D.
Awesome music. Good for the brain.
Great stuff!!
Great.Class Playing.
Hermoso! un cariño desde Argentina.
thanks so much for sharing:)!!!
If that wont make your feet move nothing will.Utterly fantastc
i loved the blue lights on the ceiling
Yes ...these fellows are a real musical treasure.....great sense of the melody, sweet and very good intonation.....older values??
I think they are.....possibly a bit lower ....fiddle tuned down ??? Lovely music, sweet and tuneful, as I remember from the 50s ...before the dreadful introduction of noise!
love ıt
Goddamn. Aoibhinn Crónán, lads!
very much together on all tunes...even the variations. must play together a bit. great.
Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh has a style quite distinct from any other fiddler I've heard. I think it has something to do with the way he times the attacks and the stresses. Wouldn't really know, though. I'm no fiddler. I just think it adds a different, refreshing dimension to the usual trad sound.
+JJBushfan yeah you're right. He stresses different beats than what you would usually hear, and it sounds really cool!
Alani Sugar
You're not supposed to do this, Ms Sugar. It's all but forbidden to agree with me on UA-cam. The last person to do so was sucked into a vortex which mysteriously appeared in her bathroom and was never seen again. But thanks (and good luck.) It does, indeed, sound really cool.
Are you any relation to the other Al Sugar?
+JJBushfan Ha! Don't worry I'll be careful about agreeing with people next time!
And no, I'm not related to the other Al Sugar...
Alani Sugar
Well, that's a relief. I thought I might have to seek out that vortex and escape to wherever vortexes lead.
Good luck with the fiddle playing. It's a fine instrument in the hands of one who understands it.
Thanks
I think it a shame that the sound mixer does not boost the fiddle sound level up so that it can be heard over the pipes.
siamterry i disagree, they blend in perfectly, why do you want the fiddle to be louder than the pipes?
Sorry, I'm on the pipes' team.
But the fiddler is good too, I must admit.
Yes - B pipes... and, as Joe says, Caoimhín has his fiddle tuned down (E B F# C#) to match.
I wonder if you have to get different gauge strings tune to down so low....? Do you know?
are they b pipes?
Substance.
haha! true! nowadays ye might aswell be listinen to a jackhammer!
Om samadhi om
I want this music to go on forever.
I hope science will advance enough to allow Caoimhín and Mick to have a four-armed baby together that can play pipes and fiddle at the same time.
What did I just say?
Oh it's the absinthe I tell you!
Haha! I'll go along with that...I think!
