Thank you so much for letting me ride in the cab and having a driver’s eye view of the line. If you were in the train you would have such a limited view. Keep up the good work!
This is fantastic. Would love to see a high quality video all the way to Perth, and possibly in the other direction. This would be a great route in a train simulation game from what I've seen with a snowy mountain pass in another video. I do criticize however the lack of sound.
Blurpled 225 studios are actually filming in the area, they’ve already done Inverness to Perth, & are doing Edinburgh to Aberdeen, Aberdeen to Inverness is already in the works, as are a few others in the area.
How lucky to live by the railway. That is my dream to leave London in 2 years and have a place out of the way. I try to visit 3-5 times a year but obviously wont for a while until God will this virus is done with.
Dude - what are you waiting for? We moved over10 years ago and never regretted it. London is bonkers now. Despite the SNP doing their level best to muck everything up, they have not, and will not, succeed. Come join us.@@johnmacdonald3282
To dual the line and electrify it would be prohibitively expensive and the number of destinations served would not justify it. Besides I wonder if it would even be possible: building the line in the first place was a difficult engineering challenge. Not least of all, now that the A9 is a major trunk road, the journey to the north is accomplished much more quickly by road than by rail.
A large part of the line looks like it was built single track, but I see the point. Electrifying it would be a good idea, not to mention adding wires further north...
I took theses trains in the years 70's. How wonderful scenes and landscapes !! I love Scotland !!!
Such a very good and helpful video showing the route as it is from the cab. Please do more of these.
Better with sound!

Great journey, made my day and lifted my spirits
Great video Scotrail I do love trains Thanks for sharing
Seen the video today. Very interesting. The landscapes of the highland superb, with.sun or snow better. Regret for.no mention for the station crossed.
Sound and info on stations passed and landmarks such as Slochd Summit
1:09:54 what a lovely bush.
Ew
Kudos to ScotRail for posting this....
Much better than out a side window. Please try and do the Shotts and Bathgste lines sometime this way. Jim.
As many say... needs sound

What happened at the white arch? (1:25:00 approx.)
is this a passenger only route, or does freight trains move up and down this line aswell ???
Please to more of these @ScotRail do a Edinburgh to Glasgow

Beautiful! 😊 regards from germany☺️
great video thanks for the ride
Yes it needs sound. Also loco-hauled by something nice like a Class 37. Snow maybe? Nomatter, I enjoyed it anyway - watched the whole thing.
The Highland Main Line seems to have a lot of short trains for such a long line. Does it ever run with more than 2 coaches?
170s have 3 carriages, and you see one on the video, so yes.
Wow the track layout at Inverness has really been thinned out since my last trip in the mid 80s.

Still stuck in London.

very nice is this the HST well i can't because the wiper on the train so it must be a 170 or a 158
Hi, it's a Class 170. ^CT
@@ScotRail hi scotrail
3 coaches
It’s a very nice journey thanks scotrail! :) but next time please use sound 😉
Why stop at Pitlochry?
Enjoying video so far but believe that it would be significantly improved with sound and footnotes re locations along route ..
No sound 👎
Shame there is no sound
Quality video, but no sound - poor show Scotrail
A little disappointed that there is no sound on the video. I am only watching it because I am of Scottish descent.
Brilliant ... but could do with sound
And now we have adverts.....
let,s goooo!
Nice videos from ScotRail; But why is there no sound???
I could never understand why this main line is a single track with passing loops, surely there is an economic case to redouble (and electrify) it
To dual the line and electrify it would be prohibitively expensive and the number of destinations served would not justify it. @@ZL54JK8 That's rather the problem: the difference in the amount of money poured into the road and not the railway network.

No sun, no sound ☹️. Only 5/10 for this one. 🐨🇦🇺
