Seeing as 99.5% of canada's 36 million people can't be bothered to even consider RHD and japan's 125 million people go through cars like no one else. I'm sure there are plenty left by the 25 year mark. I'm deep into the car community on the east coast of Canada and I have 2 of maybe 40 RHD JDM cars in my area. Not really a thing east of alberta.
They're aren't a lot of gems left because they've all been bought up now by American importers. In fact, on the Japanese auction, prices are really high because people know the cars will be sold in the US. Also, many Japanese car people don't like selling to auction anymore because they want to keep the cars in Japan. There are many reasons why it's impossible now. If you like Japanese cars, go to Japan.
Canada is barely a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the world. Plenty of African countries get lots of their cars used from Japan, 50% of New Zealand’s first registered cars are used JDM imports, the UK & Australia have also had JDM cars for decades, treating them as disposable back when they were cheap.

When I went for Hagerty insurance one time it was actually through my own insurance company, like I talked to the same agent the whole time, which might explain why so many people have different experiences with Hagerty, it's not as centralized as it could be. Classic insurance isn't typically Zoomer friendly either, in my experience you have to be at least 25 and you have to have a primary vehicle insured under your name, can't be under your parent's insurance.

Thanks for the great content and outlining what forms are the most important (hang on to copy/scan). An extra bit of information that is often overlooked. 1. Every car (even the $1 cars) that is exported has to pass the JCI, Japan Car Inspection in order to get an export certificate. 2. This means if the JCI was expired, then all back taxes have to be paid, the weight tax, and compulsory insurance purchased and then pass the somewhat rigorous inspection. (most cars fail for headlight alignment, damaged CV joint boots, etc.). 3. Thus a lot of the cars you see on sites, etc. may be very cheap because they have not passed JCI, Shaken 車検. And the company will have to charge you to perform the JCI/shaken. 4. I personally enjoy the JCI / Shaken challenge; it is like a treasure hunt going from building to building buying revenue stamps, filling out forms, before actually taking the car through the inspection line. 5. unlike the USA, individual sales are not subject to the 10% consumption tax; it adds up if you purchase a vehicle from a private party. 6. Lastly, any truck imported into the USA is subject to a 25% import duty thanks to the Chicken Tax. The Subaru Brat was created to try and get around the import tax but the strategy failed.
This video is 100% the truth! I’ll share my experience. I’d say my process was either rather lucky or because FL. I imported my Mr2. I live right by my port so fortunately the pickup is easy and done on my own. Picked up at the port and called Geico over the phone on my way to the DMV. Geico was a little confused but I explained the situation confidently and was able to work with the agent to insure my car. At the DMV, the Agent pretty much put 2 and 2 together and came outside to confirm the VIN on my chasis and went ahead and gave me a title. Didn’t need inspection as it is not required in FL. 👌🏼 All done! Same day as pickup, I was driving my car. I would not let the process scare you away. Regardless if it goes as easy as mine or a long process, it’s so worth it. I love my car and I would go through hell to get it if I had to rebuy over again. Highly recommend importing!!!
@@Melvin_RongDong I used Japan Car Direct personally... they were pretty good, helped me through the entire process. You will pay a little bit more by using them (and probably other importers) but definitely worth it imo.
My friend recently bought an mr2 that was an r grade, it had never been in an accident but had had a body kit put on it so r grade can mean replaced body pannels like bumpers and fenders
If that's what your friend told you, then he had been 100% lied to by his importer, seller, or dealer. R grade most definitely means accident cars with repair history and replacements done.
@@dennischen8887 thats always a possibility but from what i had explained to me by multiple importers is that anykind of replaced pannel or body work counts as an r grade regardless of if it was for a repair or modification, the car came with a full logbook and the car inspector he hired said the history was 100 percent clean, weve also had it on a lift and inspected it ourselves and couldnt find anything wierd or any uses of bog

I often tell people that dreamed of owning a 300ZXTT that they should be looking at these auctions and thinking about a 1997 or later Z32 Fairlady TT. They made a few small improvements to the Z32 Fairlady TT after the 300ZXTT was ended.
Similar to the s13 hatchback they stopped producing them in the US in 1993 but kept producing them until 1998 in Japan and made improvements all around
This video was so helpful this is what I did: 1) Purchased from Be Forward 2) Reached out to broker with all information, BL, Japanese title, etc 3) Finished paper work 4) Couple days before vehicle hits port, paid my broker ($600 for me) 5) Set up shipping with Transport Masters 6) Met up with assigned shipper at delivery destination 7) Register Car using my LLC in Montana Done I live in California and do business in Montana 100% legal only downside your car has to leave that state in 20 days and then come back **cough**
I live in Southern Africa and everyone uses Be Forward including local car dealers but I have to ask, I see 2 prices on a car.. first price then total payable, so do I still need to pay any other amount? And mileage are they legit? Your advice will be much appreciated.
@StreetPhat hey Street phat first amount is the vehicle price, second amount is vehicle price +shipping and cleaning paper work etc. Shipping prices may vary depending on what port you use. Basically, that second number is your grand total. Hope this helps!
@StreetPhat also everything is very legit. I'm going to buy from them again pretty soon. They are extremely accurate with everything about the vehicle you are buying. The car came with all its years of maintenance certificates. I was pleasantly shocked
@streetphat on Beforward if you create an account, you’ll have a third option for purchase. It is the “buy now” option which can save you money. You can save anywhere from $200 USD of total price and up to $2,000 USD from the overall price. For example the 98 GTO TT I got was listed for $14k for everything (shipping, insurance, inspections, etc.). The “buy now” option for me was $12,540 USD for everything. Also, as a member, you have what they call “BF Exclusives” in which only members can purchase select vehicle and it’s free to set up. Hope this further helps you!

I’m currently working on trying to obtain any and all documents I need to register the car. It’s a JZX90 Mark 2 true Tourer V. Runs perfect with no leaks. It’s been a source of my stress and depression I just want to drive this thing. UA-cam community, any help at all would be appreciated. I literally have frequent dreams that I find the folder, only to wake up empty handed and just empty altogether

Imported my Stagea for 1375, with shipping, boat insurance, cleaning fee it was 3750. if the car itself is under 2500 you can bypass going through a broker or exporter and just go to the CBP office and do the paperwork yourself (informal entry). With the documents sent from the exporter you can do it yourself easily. 2.5% duty fee on automobiles so it was around 37 dollars plus 9 for cash processing fee. Registered for 500$ in south dakota and insured thru hagerty for 190 a year. Got a Honda Beat coming in this month as well. Keep in mind that you can only import 1 car per year (per person) so make sure you get your brother, sister or parents as a consignee and have them go do the paperwork at the office or hire a broker if theyre not willing to do that. If you have a dealer license you can pick up however many you want. If you live close to the port just get a TWIC and pull the car out yourself + uhaul trailer rental which is cheap as fuck Going through some stateside exporter dealership is a scam they buy crashed cars with rolled odometers and mark it up for americans. Dealers and exporters in japan also do this as well especially with sports cars. JapaneseClassics has done shit like selling someone a crash damaged repaired 180SX and pulling out relays from another customers s13 (that hadn't been picked up yet) so that the heater worked in the just sold 180. Most GTRs you see for sale are crash repaired, unknown mileage etc
Hey! Great and informative post! Could you please share a link to the paperwork and fees list? Also, if that's my car (it is already registered in my name in another country), should I mail the title to here and translate it here in the US? Or I should ship it with the car? Sorry for lots of questions!
State Farm is really easy to set up with insurance. If the agent has no idea they can connect to their underwriter while on the phone with you and they'll make sure you get everything to them they need. Basically a picture of the vehicle, it's value, and a picture of the chassis tag if you have it.

At the DMV, the Agent pretty much put 2 and 2 together and came outside to confirm the VIN on my chasis and went ahead and gave me a title.
Didn’t need inspection as it is not required in FL. 👌🏼
All done! Same day as pickup, I was driving my car. I would not let the process scare you away. Regardless if it goes as easy as mine or a long process, it’s so worth it. I love my car and I would go through hell to get it if I had to rebuy over again. Highly recommend importing!!!
Who did you go through to import it?
im importing an mr2 in FL too! comes in 2 weeks. really excited
@@Melvin_RongDong I used Japan Car Direct personally... they were pretty good, helped me through the entire process. You will pay a little bit more by using them (and probably other importers) but definitely worth it imo.
Appreciate you brother! Have been thinking of taking the plunge into getting a JDM vehicle and this may have just been my ticket!
My friend recently bought an mr2 that was an r grade, it had never been in an accident but had had a body kit put on it so r grade can mean replaced body pannels like bumpers and fenders
Based Japanese not charging full price for kitted cars
If that's what your friend told you, then he had been 100% lied to by his importer, seller, or dealer. R grade most definitely means accident cars with repair history and replacements done.
@@dennischen8887 thats always a possibility but from what i had explained to me by multiple importers is that anykind of replaced pannel or body work counts as an r grade regardless of if it was for a repair or modification, the car came with a full logbook and the car inspector he hired said the history was 100 percent clean, weve also had it on a lift and inspected it ourselves and couldnt find anything wierd or any uses of bog
@@excalibur2038 well someone along the process was not telling the truth and/or paperwork were fabricated. Because R grade literally means recorded accident history.
@@dennischen8887 litterally search up "what does r grade mean japanese auction" and it says in alot of cases it can mean modified or altered
oh damn this was actually informational, ive always been swayed from importing a car due to shady importers. had no idea you could DIY it. you got me thinkin about it now
I often tell people that dreamed of owning a 300ZXTT that they should be looking at these auctions and thinking about a 1997 or later Z32 Fairlady TT. They made a few small improvements to the Z32 Fairlady TT after the 300ZXTT was ended.
Similar to the s13 hatchback they stopped producing them in the US in 1993 but kept producing them until 1998 in Japan and made improvements all around
This video was so helpful this is what I did:
1) Purchased from Be Forward
2) Reached out to broker with all information, BL, Japanese title, etc
3) Finished paper work
4) Couple days before vehicle hits port, paid my broker ($600 for me)
5) Set up shipping with Transport Masters
6) Met up with assigned shipper at delivery destination
7) Register Car using my LLC in Montana
Done
I live in California and do business in Montana 100% legal only downside your car has to leave that state in 20 days and then come back **cough**
@@Hairybarryy thanks a lot it's gonna be my first time and I'm super excited to get my dream car from them. Thanks
Papá nepgear looking for all of us
The clips you used for this video are comedy!!! Great Video and Information man. God Bless. Love Chuco Town too
Netgear with the Kirkland brand whiskey. Gotdam
Thanks. This gives me an idea of what I'm in for when I try to ship my car back to the US with me. I'm currently living in Japan
just thought i would comment on the mileage thing you mentioned at 4:54, when its kilometers we usually say "kay ems" or "kays". that's the metric version of mileage. good video!
Everything we needed to know. Thank you NetGear!!!
You have an honest air about you and you back what you can with facts. Keep doing what you're doing
I was surprised to hear you used to live in El Paso. I live here and I’m on the lookout for a Legacy B4. I had one in Okinawa from 2009-2012, and they’re finally getting to the point where they can be imported. Thanks for the info!
I live about 15 minutes away from the port of galveston, and i'm in there regularly servicing some of our accounts for work. A couple of months back, they had a BEAUTIFUL white CTR, a couple of R33's, an EVO IV, couple of FD's. I would probably chop off of my gonads for an R33 (even if was just a GT) 😂
This video came at a good time for me. I’ve been losing hope in getting my car registered. I was in an unfortunate situation where I had to hurry up and move to a different home. I packed everything myself and the one folder I held onto the tightest(my documents folder in its entirety)seemingly vanished into thin air after the move. I literally have frequent dreams that I find the folder, only to wake up empty handed and just empty altogether
a quick dream interpretation is that you have it but forgot where you placed it. keep the feeling of having found it and remove the desperation in your desire. I guarantee it will just come to you "that special spot " you put them in.
the hard drive that you have it on. there's some programs to help you recover files that were lost. talk to easeUS support they might be able to help you
This is a very helpful video man, Cut out the middle man and save a ton of money and import your own RHD Japanese cars
Better take it to tommys to get those black couplers 💀
Seriously though this was good, no BS and straight to the point, deserves more views!
Just waiting on those crimpers bb
thanks julian
Seriously in depth, appreciate this a lot. I just bought a Celsior and this helps me understand everything.
I have hagerty on my Aristo now, pay like $100/month full coverage, insured up to $25k and unlimited miles
That seems to defy what everyone else says. Hmmm….
If you live close to the port just get a TWIC and pull the car out yourself + uhaul trailer rental which is cheap as fuck
Going through some stateside exporter dealership is a scam they buy crashed cars with rolled odometers and mark it up for americans.
Wrong liar
Hey! Great and informative post! Could you please share a link to the paperwork and fees list? Also, if that's my car (it is already registered in my name in another country), should I mail the title to here and translate it here in the US? Or I should ship it with the car? Sorry for lots of questions!
I lost it when Grandma was taking the express stairs in the background when you were describing damage terms 😂
I like it when Netgear talks
I love netgear posting content 😎
THE VIDEO WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
that's my guy he's absolutely based
WAKE UP MOM! CCF POSTED!!!
State Farm is really easy to set up with insurance.
If the agent has no idea they can connect to their underwriter while on the phone with you and they'll make sure you get everything to them they need. Basically a picture of the vehicle, it's value, and a picture of the chassis tag if you have it.
i completely like how you put that together very understandable
Nerd Gear back it again 🤝🤝🫡
Lol depends falling asleep while he was getting technical about the forms got me.

Nice IT Crowd video clip. I've had Hagerty on my skyline since 2019 and every time I call for anything I always ask the same questions and they always give me the same answers They just say you can't drive it as your primary vehicle. No mileage or other usage restrictions, otherwise.
Lol. Bruh man. When you're holding that drink...you look like Julian shooting a scene from The Trailer Park Boyz.
HAHAHAHA the edit is on point!!!! great info as well!
What’s best oil for stance?
