Thanks to MacDac for aft fuselage mounted engines on the DC-9, MD80 series, MD90 and the B717 that allows us engine sound nerds to have audio/video to soothe our souls. Beautiful sound of the V2525(28?) of this flight!
4:48-6:10 is one of the best engine sounds I've heard. The way the engine starts up while the other spools up to taxi. It's so melodic, sounds like a chord progression of some sort. I wish I had flown this plane some more.
It's fascinating. Those engines turning so fast and such a machine going so quickly. Takes a lot of training with a certified aircraft mechanic to work on one system of many on these. There is a whole mentorship and training program that goes into making sure they are maintained to be safe. The rest is left to the pilots...
I had an issue where I was gonna put my ipod touch on sleep mode (I've done it before multiple times!) and the guy next to me insisted that I turn it all the way off! -__- So glad the rule is gone
Will seat 37 can u see out the window or is it blocked by the engine like wat I trying too say is that will sest 37 give u a view of the full wing and the engine hole??
what seat were you in on this flight? I really want to fly one of these. I've flown an MD-88 before to Atlanta on Delta a few years ago from Milwaukee, but I've never been on an MD-90. I know that MKE-MSP serves the MD-90 currently.
Can anyone explain that loud tone in the PA sound system when the flight attendant has the mic keyed up? I've noticed the same tone on pretty much all aircraft and it's always the same pitch. Just wondering what the cause is. You don't hear that tone in other PA systems, like in stores for example.
Yes, it's an interference (technically called "crosstalk") from the 400 Hz AC power bus of the airplane onto the PA system. It's not the same on all aircraft, and it may change considerably even between different machines of the same make and model. It depends on how the 400 Hz AC cables can couple (crosstalk) onto the 28 VDC or the audio signal cables. There is also another possibility: if the PA system is powered from the AC bus, the filter after the rectifier in the power supply section may be defective (or may have lost some efficiency over time) and so you would find an audible ripple on the audio lines. The same 400 Hz tone could often be heard over VHF radio communications, essentially for the same reason.
You're welcome. There is another instance, even more interesting, where an interference may become noticeable over the PA system. Go to the video umfxwirWgPA. There are two points, at times 12" and 39", where you car hear (in addition to the 400 Hz interference) a siren-like tone (sort of whoop-whoop). That is the interference produced by the ignition exciter during the startup sequence of the engine(s). The base circuit of the high voltage generator is a self oscillating voltage booster, the same type used in electronic flashes for cameras. You know, when the flash is charging you hear a whistle becoming more and more high-pitched as the capacitor builds up voltage. Here is the same. The instant when the tone changes abruptly from high to low pitch is when the ignitors fire (capacitor is discharged). On some planes it could even be heard over VHF transmissions, when "Continuous Relight" is selected and the ignition units are firing all the time.
Elhombresombra Interesting. I have heard that before in other MD tail-mounted engine aircraft where the videographer was sitting in proximity to the engine during the startup process.
What engine does the McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30 use? I'm curious because it sounds very similar to the BMW Rolls Royce GmbH RB715 engine that the Boeing 717-200 uses.
Let me clarify, it sounds like engine 1 wasn't spooled up soon enough to provide enough compressed air to start engine 2 so it started to shut down again for a second.
36 has 2 windows while allowing you to look into the engine. 37 just has 1 window, however not misaligned. though with the engine view of 37, it doesn't block the window , but you can't really see inside of it much. I'd go with 36. trust me, you'll be glad you chose 36.
I loved flying on the MD 90 when I flew to Texas to visit relatives!! Plenty of space on the inside!
Ahhhhh... I love falling asleep to the sounds of that engine :)
Md90s are so awesome, it's like sitting in a maddog with the feeling of being inside of an a320
BEST SOUNDING MD-90 VIDEO ON UA-cam

Wow! That has to be the fastest MD90 takeoff I ever seen. Gonna miss these Jets when they're all retired.
The best sound ever!!💜💯✈✈💙

Love the sound of those V2500 engines coming from the back of the airplane!
Thanks for capturing this. That airplane rips. I want one!
That Thrust Sound is so Awesome!!!!

Man, that sounds so nice!
That's an airplane
Babylove💏
These sounds from MD-80-90’s; B727; DC8; B720; B717 all calm me down. Does that happen to you, too?
love the mad dog 90
Yeah they're great! Thanks for watching.
I really miss seeing ATL cluttered with Mad Dogs (MD-88) and Super 90's (MD-90) Now it's all boring A321s
Couldn’t agree more. At least the 717 is still around and I’ve really started to enjoy the 757/767s which will still be around for a while.
Wow, great sound!! Loved it!!
So glad electronic devices can be on.. it was always so annoying having to explain that filming inside the plane wouldn't cause it to crash..!
***** I had to argue with a flight attendant because of this...
I had an issue where I was gonna put my ipod touch on sleep mode (I've done it before multiple times!) and the guy next to me insisted that I turn it all the way off!
-__- So glad the rule is gone
I guess all these years the FAA is now finally getting the picture that electronic devices cause problems with the plane is more myth then reality.
Yeah these engines are V2528s which are a little bit more powerful than those on the A320
MD-90= ROCKET SHIP
From 12:39 to the end of this video, the engine sounds like a fire alarm, but that's what it sounds like to me... but it sounds really cool ! :-)
lovely sound...
Ah yes the MD-90, a MD-80 but with engines from an A320
Yeah planes normally taxi with one engine
Love the mad dog 90
No, during the taxiing the lens of the camera was covered for a while with a hand, was that accidental? or the flight attendant was walking by...
Awesome freakin' sound :)
now thats a take off
👍👏 where were you flying to and how long was the flight?
Nope! One of the taxiways leading to the runway was closed so we had to go around that.
Sounds like a CRJ-700 takeoff with buzzsaw
Did the pilots take a wrong turn on the Taxiway? is that the cause for the 180 degree turn?
Thanks! It's seat 36E.

I was in 36E. I love 36A/E on MD-90s because it gives an amazing view of the engines. I think most MD-90s fly out of ATL and MSP.
Thanks!
You need TWO cameras - one for each window!
It was probably the flight attendant

Very interesting. I figured it was some sort of interference, but didn't know the specifics.

so it actually used 1 engine during the taxi?
Who was that asking you if your cell phone was off, lol?
Thanks! Wha'd I say
Are the engines IAE V2500s because when the engines start up it sounds very similar to the Airbus A320
Yes, they are the same
Love the MADDOGS'S
Anyone get to the end and go like "where's the rest?"
Whats that with the hand?
At 5:44, was that humming noise the MD-90 or the 757 out the window?
It was the engines of the MD-90 spooling up
What engine does the McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30 use? I'm curious because it sounds very similar to the BMW Rolls Royce GmbH RB715 engine that the Boeing 717-200 uses.
This is an International Aero Engines IAE V2500-D5
Sounds similar to the A320 in that they both use the V2500 power plants
Have u ever sat at seat 37 before
At 5:11 it sounds like the engine ran out of air and began to slow down.
Let me clarify, it sounds like engine 1 wasn't spooled up soon enough to provide enough compressed air to start engine 2 so it started to shut down again for a second.
The pilot just throttled up to get moving then went back to idle.
it does that i ride a plane all the time and it does that to move. and sometimes it scares me i sat next to it this summer it is so loud.
I was talking about engine 2 which was not running yet.
@@calvinrovinescu6166 engine 2 was running, engine 1 wasnt
It sounds like a 737
More like an A320
What do you mean my shakiness?
how bout it goes in to space
They didn't set climb thrust?
Because not every planes has a climb thrust setting idk
IM. THE KING. ASSUME. MY KIKS. LOLITA. N SHESTER. LOVE. TO FLY. THERE. IS. NO DOUBT
Yup IAEs.
Which seat is better 36 or 37
36 if you want the engine noise and the view; 37 if you want more of the engine.
36 has 2 windows while allowing you to look into the engine. 37 just has 1 window, however not misaligned. though with the engine view of 37, it doesn't block the window , but you can't really see inside of it much. I'd go with 36. trust me, you'll be glad you chose 36.
