it;s almost anti christmas in my view. but I bet Boots got a mighty boost to their ESG score, which seems to be all that counts nowadays. Customers don't come into the bargain.
Where is Jesus,Mary,Joseph? Where are the carols, the churches, the choirs, the shepherds, the Wise Men and the Star they follow? Where is any element of Christianity in the Christ-mas adverts? Deliberately excluded by our woke advertising agencies who push an entirely different agenda, that's where! 😬
We have an ad here in Australia, where the mum is Chinese, the dad is white and the kids are Indian and negro. I’ve never seen such a combo here, we hardly have any black African people living here, we do have quite a few black indigenous Australians but they are never represented in adverts.
In the UK just about every ad features black people and most couples are mixed race. People of Indian or South Asian origin are completely ignored as if they don't exist which is insulting. White people are the majority of the population in the UK though you wouldn't know if from the ads.
I do not buy any products that use woke advertising. For instance, anything from the Gillette ecosystem ever since that ad about toxic masculinity years ago.
Yes, digi box fanatics here too. I even fix up old ones as part of my electronics hobby. The future plan is all internet tv and if you search for an item to buy you will be specifically targeted (on the tv) adverts!
The Aldi one is pretty good, it's even referring to the Christmas spirit. Also, they cleverly avoid the identity stuff by having carroty actors rather than humans
@@emstirling-is4nuIt's a wind up shopping in Boots anyway. My family and I are never going in there, ever. If you had £100 in shares there you would now have 17pence btw.😊
I am sick to the back teeth of woke adverts. I now boycott Marks & Spencer, Boots, most supermarkets. I never shop at John Lewis and I would never buy a Jaguar, even if I could afford one.
I’m watching House M.D on Amazon. They force ads. It’s torturous. You’d think they were targeting a central African country who happen to be disproportionately LGBTQ etc.
That John Lewis ad looks ghastly to me, and it's not really anything to do with the people chosen to star in it. It's more the unbelievable shallowness of it all despite the huge sums that undoubtedly would have been involved in giving it that gloss and high production quality. The makers think they've somehow captured the Christmas spirit but it instills in me all the festiveness of a stubbed toe. Advertisers years back used to be so good at reflecting the essence of the festive season back at viewers without spending a fortune. Simplicity, directness, honesty, communitarian sentiment -all those things are notable by their absence.
I surprised Christmas hasn't been phased out altogether for being "too white and traditionally European/British". I guess money talks and it's still the 'most wonderful time of the year' for corporate profits. I boycott woke.
I accidentally watched some of the John Lewis advert. Come on chaps!! I’m an ancient bloke and I don’t mind no blokes in the clip. We are doing far more important things like being at home, listening to some classical music LPs on an old Goldring deck with a chilled glass of pouilly fuisse, reading Walter Isaacson’s biography of Leonardo Da Vinci sat comfortably in a leather covered chesterfield with a large glass of of Smith’s The Glenlivet, or even in a more common or garden pub (if one were able to find one) near a roaring open fire with a superb pint of British ale, dreaming of happy times. Shopping is dreary and best left for women. How’s that for being controversial? 👍🇬🇧👍🇮🇱👍🇬🇧👍🇮🇱👍🇬🇧👍
ASA are a political paper tiger. My family and I are never going into Boots, I've come out of there most annoyed in the past anyway. Their shares are down 83% anyway, so 17pence for every £.😊
‘They’ can’t even keep their excuses consistent either given that modern advertising has always justified its obsession with inclusivity/representation as simply striving to appeal to as wide a customer base as possible. ….Then John Lewis and/or the ad agency they hired decided that men, approx 50% of the population, wasn’t worth representing… 😔

Didn't like the John Lewis ad, but absolutely hated the Boots ad for obvious reasons. I think Boots though are delighted that Jaguar has come along and taken the spotlight off them.
I don't watch TV so rarely see ads. One that I did see for a leading international brand that had an old time British Christmas feel with no DEI messaging and was even about their products was for Barbour. Barbour might have strayed from their roots and are using some weird models on their website who would never wear a waxed hunting jacket but they somehow managed to make a sweet Christmas ad.
Peter Whittle and Crew, the issue of ethnic representation in media and advertising is the great issue that never gets the attention it needs. The importance of this matter cannot be underestimated
I think I read too much into this advert. I thought the part where she separated a rack of sweaters was an allusion to The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe I thought the family scene without a man meant she had had her children by artificial insemination which was 'confirned' when she met her lesbian lover at the end.
Funny that's exactly what I thought about the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe allusion (mind you I thought it may have been going all Freud with her entering a vagina) and the lesbian partner. I think it was supposed to be her younger bratty sister, wasn't it? The trouble is we are so conditioned to think everything we see on the media is woke, we can't help interpreting it that way.
I have been so fed up with the Woke adverts for about seven years now so I keep the remote by me and just turn the sound off and shut my eyes and have a doze until my program returns. A program by the way that is also as unwoke as is possible to find on TV these days, usually old repeats. I have to suffer the ‘Trigger’ warnings first though!
@ I agree that is why I subscribed to Netflix, very Woke I know but there are no adverts if you pay a dearer subscription and I can sift out anything I don’t want to watch. However, I do still watch some terrestrial TV.
Jaguar should have been sold to Daimler-Mercedes. Daimler-Mercedes would respect Jaguar's rich identity and heritage while providing it with the one ingredient it always lacked: engineering reliability (and cutting-edge tech). MB would be perfectly placed to save Jag by giving it real believability/plausibility in the same way BMW did for RR, and VW did for Bentley.
Australian tv ads are full of mixed race couples and kids. Always a white bloke and an east asian wife and white women with african or indian husbands are becoming more common. You NEVER saw an African , Indian or mixed couple in Australian ads until about ten years ago.
If that was anti woke, there would be lots of people, male and female, old and young, with a small percentage of them non white. That would reflect society.
it might be worth making a minor scene in local branches of Boots, asking to see the manager, and outline in public that you won't shop at boots because of their current racist advert.

I think people are too used to focusing on the negatives, and given the relentless woke crap we've had forced down our throats the past few years that's understandable. However, I think this advert shows the pendulum really is swinging back finally. There is no way an advert with all white people would have gone out in the previous 5 years, it's just unthinkable. It may not be perfect, but take the wins where they are, it's a step in the right direction and shows all our effort is having an effect.
