Just got this lovely turntable from my boyfriend for my birthday. My Dad passed away 2years ago and he used to listen to records with me ..when he passed his records ended up in my sister's garage in Hungary and now they are with me in the UK so I can enjoy them forever keeping Dad's memory more alive every day.
I have some great turntables. It would mean a lot to me to know that they and my LPs will continue to be loved. Tell your boyfriend from New Zealand that he has done good.
Wow, a turntable that comes with it’s own dust cover with metal hinges, is quiet and steady, solidly built, has speed selector switch and a way to fine tune the speeds, no fishing line parts, and not $3000 - what a concept!
I've had an RT-81 for almost 2 years now and am quite satisfied. Loved your comments about listening to 3 Rush records on it...that made me smile. Thanks!
@@jakebennett9130 Hey, I have a TEAC AG-V8520 receiver and some old SB-L95 Technics speakers. I'm not an audiophile by any means, they do the job for me. Thanks for asking!
I’ve been deliberating over which turntable I should buy, as I’m on a relatively small budget for a new setup. Your review has sealed it for me, the RT81 is the one.
Your passion and authority on this subject means I will trust what you have to say when it comes to all things audio. Nice, fair and comprehensive review. Enjoy your turntable :)
Stumbled across your review here in 2024, have been trying to choose between this and the AT LP70X, I liked the automatic features on it. I kept coming back to the Fluance RT81, love its features, the look and as you stated, the importance of weight, I ordered it 2 days ago. Can’t wait for it to arrive and have my first turn table.
Thank you for this review! My fiance gifted me this TT for my 30th birthday. It's been a real treat to be able to listen to my father's records I inherited as well as new records I've purchased from my favorite current artists. I'm hoping you do a review of the Fluance PA10 Phono Preamp in the future. Mine just arrived the other day and I've enjoyed it tremendously. However, there's not a lot of proper reviews on the internet and I'm just now learning about this hobby. Your advice and work is greatly appreciated.
I picked this turntable up for my wife a year and half ago so we could listen to the albums she inherited when her Mum passed. We hooked it up to our existing Sonos system via the Play 5 speaker and have been very happy with it.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like this little belt-driven deck after owning a pair of direct drive Technics SL-1210 Mk2's but I must admit after trying it out for a month and thought about parting with it after that...I've fallen in love with it and made the decision to keep it for the spare bedroom. It's a lovely solid turntable and plays everything without skipping. Set up was easy and straightforward. The sound quality is amazing even though I've changed to a felt mat and changed the cartridge over to a hi-fi grade Concorde, it plays really well. I haven't got the heart to sell it or part with it, mine forever.
Finally remembered to come back and thank you. Purchased the RT-81, loved it, then added the ATVM540 based on this review. Very happy with both. Thanks for the recommendation.
Received this turntable today and your review was spot on. From my 30+year old JvC Quartz to this is a revelation. Setup was a breeze. For the amount of money this costs it’s a great buy. Xmas came early for me!
Uploader/Vinyl TV - This is maybe the best review to know things about the 81 I have seen, absolutely amazing and we appreciate the editing. I actually lost the chance to get a 300 dollar AudioTechnics 120 with USB and Bluetooth and maybe I was lucky to look at the RT 81. Cheers, brother!
ty SIR. JUST BOUGHT ONE I opted for the Ortofon Red stylus ,, But been freaking out about my turntable upgrade ! This was the best video I've seen concerning the 81 thanks !
Very thorough review, thank you. I currently own a Sony PS-LX300 turntable that I bought about a year and a half ago when I first wanted to get into the hobby. But now I really want to upgrade my turntable, and invest in a preamp and a decent cartridge. Before this video, I was eyeing the TEAC TN-400S. It's a very simple and elegant looking turntable, but it also retails for about $600 Canadian. This Fluance turntable has a very similar look to it, and after watching your review, I'm impressed at how much thought went into the design of this turntable, and how solid it seems to be, especially for that price point! I'm also really happy to hear that the sound quality is great, and that the speed rotation accuracy is just about perfect. I was honestly fully convinced that I was going to upgrade to that TEAC TN-400S, and all I needed to do was save a little more money before I could afford it, but after watching your review, you've really gotten me thinking about this turntable. I love the design, the build quality looks to be absolutely solid, the sound is great, and it's half the cost of the TEAC I wanted.
I bought the RT 85 on Aug. 14th 2019 I have it hooked up running through my Art Audio Vinyl One Tube phono stage and it sounds really nice. Thanks Craig. Good work
❤❤❤ know about a year ago I was thinking of getting this turntable but I opted for something else and now really looking at your video I'm going to get the fluance rt81 and treat myself to a basic gr8 turntable. What a great video thanks!
Thanks! I just received my RT-81 today, purchased predicated on your videos. I LOVE IT!!! Its my first turntable and I am testing it against Amazon Music streaming. I'm playing a brand new album, Melody Gardot - My One And Only Thrill. The RT-81 sound is far superior to the Bluetooth streaming service!!!! I never knew what I was missing. I'm currently listening through B&W 704's, but will soon be hooking this up to my B&W 801 S2's. Thanks again! Your reviews, in my opinion, are some of the best on UA-cam! Realistic and honest, no marketing BS, much appreciated!!!! Please continue to provide your wonderful content.
Since my first review below, I've been playing some of the heaviest dance tracks with the RT81 and it really has impressed me with the way it handles Deep House, Hard House and Trance as well as Industrial Techno. It's not a DJ turntable.... that we know, but it is a solid and very well made deck even though it is belt driven and not direct drive. It tracks well and doesn't jump or skip. Some of the heavy rhythms and basslines have caused the Audio Technica to skip but not on the Fluance. It's a beautiful turntable and a lot of people will benefit from this and it's budget pricetag.
Thanks for your comprehensive review. I just ordered the 81 from Amazon. I'm excited to get it. And BTW, kudos on your taste in music. ( Rush). Cheers.
Great review! Just picked the RT81 at a local liquidator for $120. One dent/chip near the rear corner of plinth; easy to touch up. Thanks again. George
Thank you for continuing to provide great information Craig. Yours was one of the first channels I came across when I was setting up my new turntable (Pro-ject RPM 1.3), and the beginners guide you posted is great and easy to understand. I also enjoy the total lack of pretentiousness that I have so often encountered getting into the hobby. Keep up the great work man, and enjoy the new table!
Great video. I commented on your unboxing video as well - I have had my Fluance RT-81 for a year now. I agree with everything you said here - the only things I will say is that my RT-81 was spot on with RPM's at both 33.33 and 45 right out of the box but after about 9 months or so I started noticing it was off and was running too fast. I clocked it at 34.10 with my RPM app and I had to adjust the speed back down with the speed adjustment screw accessed from the underside of the turntable - the instructions on how to do that are not very clear but I just needed the correct size screwdriver - and the adjustments are micro-adjustments and very sensitive. The other thing I would say, and it may not be that important, but several respected people in the turntable community recommend not touching your belt with your fingers so you do not transfer any oils from your fingers to the belt as it *could* affect the belt and speed. This is why they used to always use talc to lightly dust and coat the rubber turntable belt...they say it improved speed stability especially at startup and stopping. I do not coat my belt though...seems a bit esoteric. I appreciate your cartridge recommendation as I want to get off of the AT95 platform and get an upgrade for sure. And now you've also helped me realize I need better cables than the starter ones that came with the RT-81. I am glad you did this review because there isn't much out there on this wonderful turntable.
Mine got a little bit faster in the first two months (around 2% faster), nothing really major or noticeable to my ears. I was keeping tracking of this for additional 1,5 month and then I decided to adjust the speed for the proper revolutions. Since them it has been spot on. I've never had any other issue whatsoever. Just sharing my experience with it. Cheers!
I upgraded interconnect cables for my RT81 and the difference was mindblowing. I did opt to get BIS Audio interconnects which are hand made in Canada at $260, but it was worth every penny.
I have been looking for a Turntable and came across this Video>>>>Very impressed, going to purchase this one>>>!!!! Thank You for the excellent demonstration and that you recommended this Fluance RT-81>>>!!!! Nice song and sure sounds good when played on this Turntable>>>!!!!
I ordered AT lp120 yesterday, then I came across your review for the Fluance rt-81 turntable and immediately canceled my order. thank you for saving my money
I'm considering purchasing a new turntable (I have an old B & O Beogram 5000) and really enjoyed your review of this table and your no nonsense__good sense review. Thanks. I was considering purchasing the ATP LP120xUSB but changed my mind after seeing your review. Thanks, again.
❤😂🎉 Craig I just have to tell you period. I just received my rt81 and it is everything you said it is in the video and more accuracy spot-on tonearm wise speed-wise and I love it! Having owned Computing turntables this one is clearly a winner! I too also have a professional direct-drive turntable was Astro and the Fluance is even better than that
Awesome song !! love the videos too....thanks for your help.....just purchased RT81 and can hardly wait for it to arrive...and now I know how to set it up
i was looking at this turntable recently. I haven't made my purchase yet, but now that I see you're review I want to check it again. thanks for the review!
I just bought this from Amazon. It'll arrive the Friday, Sept. 17th 2021. From your song playing, it sounds fantastic! My friend and I will be assembling it together. I also bought a pair of Edifer R1280T speakers. Now I will be able to enjoy my Buffy Sainte-Marie LP's better than with the Crosley.
Over the Christmas, New Years break I dug out my old Dual 1237 turntable and my lp's. I had to replace the cartridge. The needle was gone. Put an Audio-Technica AT95E and used your video for setting up the turntable. I forgot how good vinyl sounds. If I think about replacing the Dual I will definitely give the Fluance a look. Great videos. Thanks.
I just purchased a new Fluance RT 81 Turn Table, I hope I made the right choice as compared to the Audio Tecnica, LP 120, I'll find out when it's delivered>>>What an excellent tutorial for Set Up >>>Thank You Very Much>>>!!!!
Hi, I would like to say you are a breath fresh air and have a practical approach to music listening, but I think is that one needs experience, luck and some idea of what it is they want. For me I just want to listen to music on a reasonable and modest, home system. I didn't set a budget, but prepared to learn and spend what I needed to spend to get a decent system. I ended up spending £15, 000 for a very cheap and capable hi-fi system, Some things where cheap, some second-hand, some times just down to pure luck, mistakes and patience. The reason why I ended up spending much money is speakers. Half way through, I decided to build two systems. By far the most expensive components is the DIY speakers, between £1,500 and 2,000. But boy, both systems have more than surpassed my greatest expectations. I would not like to put through this kind of stress, because when your spending so much on a very low income would seem crazy.
I used to own an RT-81 and I found that the platter was the limiting aspect of it. I could hear motor noise and some resonance from the platter. It looks like yours is working better. However, I found it very good quality for the money. I'd actually recommend the RT-80 since owners are likely to upgrade the cartridge and mat anyways.
Your review is the final nail in the coffin of my decision about buying it or not this turntable. I always loved the look of a good vintage wooden turntables but never really acquired full satisfaction about the audio out of the 3 ones I owned. With the Flurance, I get both! Plus, canadian! :) Thanks Craig!
I had an original Rush Moving Pictures that I bought when I was a kid back in 1981. I thought the album sounded amazing way back then. I can imagine how great it sounds with the brass master!
Hi there canuck, me to. 1229 is my table . It sounds fantastic. Patter is 8 lbs ,idler wheel drive. Dead quick and quiet. I love Hyper elliptical and Shibata cartridges . Have a Grace F-9 Ruby cantilever and nude hyper elliptical, biggest change is the Funk Acoustic mate. Do like your technique table better
Just got this turntable for Christmas. I have it paired with a Denon DRA-600h 2-channel stereo running Klipsch Rp-600m and a 10 inch sub . I think it sounds great , the turntable really complements the Klipsch horn tweeters very well . Great set up without totally draining my bank account.
I have seen a number of your presentations, keep on keeping on, great job although I am a few years older than you your talk is perfect this old 60's guy with over a thousand albums from the day that I am finally getting to listen to. Thanks
What a great video! I bought this a few years back, and I’m still in love with it!! I’ve just purchased my second pair of the hifi speakers to go with it and what a compliment it is! Thanks a bunch from the 🇺🇸
Thanks for all the work you do in homebrew and vinyl Craig. You are a bloody legend and very helpful. Love your work... and love your music too. Thank you
I am so impressed with this turntable. Especially the speed being dead on out of the box. I probably tested six turntables all the way up to a project all of them had to have the speed adjusted
I thank thee for all, my ole friend~Craig. I enjoy all you say & do. God Bless thee & your's, coming to you from Mi. just N of Flint.. As we say here in the U.S., Screw thee Digital we want Analog...
Even though this video is from a few years ago, it’s definitely pushing me over the edge in purchasing the rt81 over the at-lp120x. I’ve just been trying to weigh out the differences and pros & cons. I listen to my records in a small bedroom with (currently) an at-lp60 and a pair of Logitech powered speakers. Which is fine for what it is. I’ve had this setup for almost 4 years and I feel it’s time for an upgrade. So, with the budget I have, the research began. Again, this review has definitely helped. Thank you for your help!
I dont know why so many hate rubber mats, theyve been my favorite for years - they dampen any platter resonance, doesnt dry out and fall apart with age and it gives the platter more rotating mass and it just plain looks better. Years ago my $330 T40 Harman Kardon turntable came with a rubber mat so I figure if they included a rubber mat that seems ok to me.
I was tapping in time to your song, at the end of this video, and I thought for a brief moment that I should not tap so loudly as I might make the record jump!! Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos. I appreciate your dedication. I'm going to see if this particular model is available for the Australian marketplace. :-)
Thanks for the video work. I agree. At the $250 USD price point with an AT95E included, this is the turntable to beat. At the $400 price point I might offer different recommendations but for those who want a new table and $250 is the budget, this is a great value.
Thinking about purchasing this turntable. I am a novice and with that in mind, I checked it out on Amazon. I read the reviews and I'm concerned about one aspect reported by many: lack of consistent turntable speed. Also in my consideration is the Tecnicha-Audio 120 x. So glad that I found your feed. jim
I haven't had that problem. Mine runs at a constant 33.4 RPM, which I won't touch with the adjustment. My Audio Technica, which is quarts driven also runs at 33.4. This is according to the RPM app on my phone.
Thanks for taking the time to do this review. I have had this turntable on my Amazon wishlist for some time, currently using a piece of junk, your review has my fingers itching to click add to cart. Maybe next payday :)
Thank you for the review! I'm planning to buy a new turntable, now this one is a potential choice for me. I like its sound, it has bright highs and strong lows.
You have done a good service helping people with a great reasonably priced TT recommendation. You are so right about having your budget allow for cartridge upgrade. I originally thought this table had a felt mat. That rubber mat is much better. Sounds great by the way.
You've convinced me. I want one of this! My Audio Technica LP60USB was good as a starter. Now that I'm getting really serious as vinyl fan and collector, I think it's the right turntable for me. Love your videos, man!
Thanks for the great review! I was considering this turntable as an upgrade to a cheap-o I've begrudgingly been using for years. I think your video pretty much seals it for me.
hello fellow Canadian nice turn table how ever i went vintage we here at our house have 19 turn tables my favorite one is the MC curdy rim drive / idle wheel 12 lbs platter bought it for $150. i got lucky the tone arm 3'600 came with it so any hoo keep spinning the records. enjoy eh!
Thank you for this video. I had a cheap $99 record player. I recently moved and even though I brought my records with me I left that behind to force me to buy a better one. I will be getting this and I cannot wait. Great review!
At $250 - $275 seems to be a very good bargain. Looks good, sounds good. Hadn't heard of this 'table before. Thanks for the review and the great music at the end. Cheers!
So glad you touched on the speed accuracy. I had read some reviews that said this table wasn't keeping speed throughout the whole album's worth of play time. I think this is the table I've settled on!
I like the information that you give on turntables. I was looking for a good low priced turntable. I just ordered a Fluance RT81, should get it in a few days. I do have a higher end turntable but was looking for a second one for a vintage system I put together.I have had one of the other turntables that you talked about but did not care to much for it so I sold it and ordered the RT81.Thanks for the info on the RT 81.
Totally agree with your review! Made a similar, much more amateur, review of the rt81 as well. I was replacing my at lp120 and found the rt81 superior for the same reasons you described. Even recommended a cartridge upgrade to improve sound performance. I love this turntable thus far!
Craig, I bought this back in February and am soooooooo happy I did. I was on the fence but did some research on the company and jumped in. I have it attached to a pair of powered speakers and the sound is great. I may in the future change the cart to the one you recommended. Thanks for your insight.
Apparently, that cart is out of production. I'm looking at the AT-Vm540ml as a future replacement. I think the stylus will fit both, but as of yet, I can't find the stylus for the 540.
I think you can't get any better turntable than this one onless you pay at least double the price to get a real improvement. I bought one thanks to your review.
Great video, very informative.I was going to upgrade my TT buying an AT LP 120 but definitely my new TT will be a Fluance .Thanks again from a new subscriber.
Thank you for the fantastic review. I’ve also been looking at this turntable. I believe I’m going to be picking one of these up as well. I also have the lp120 and i agree it’s a great turntable. I really love the classic look of the Fluance
Hi Craig, bought this turntable on Wednesday, I must admit you were spot on with all that you said in your review, it sounded great, I could hear things on the records I had not heard with my Pioneer PL12D. On Thursday though it was a different scenario, the volume was very low and if I tried to increase the volume the noise was trying to blow my speakers apart. The TT seems to have a major fault with the built in preamp. I was playing into my Roark MR1 active speakers. I am saddened by the fact I now have to return this unit and find a replacement Turntable to play my vinyl again. I don’t fancy having to go and get a stand-alone preamp at this moment in time. Thank you for your informative channel. Best wishes Katokid
@@CraigTube Hi Craig thanks for reply, RT81 was swapped out and it is just as you commented fantastic for the money. Nice song and sure sounds good when played on this Turntable>>>!!!!
You held up a Rush album, now I have to buy this turntable! I was about to buy that moving pictures album to listen to on my cheap turntable.
I ordered AT lp120 yesterday, then I came across your review for the Fluance rt-81 turntable and immediately canceled my order. thank you for saving my money
Glad I could help!
I could not be more happy with my Fluance.
I Just bought some old Sansui speakers too and man this setup sounds amazing
I'm considering purchasing a new turntable (I have an old B & O Beogram 5000) and really enjoyed your review of this table and your no nonsense__good sense review. Thanks. I was considering purchasing the ATP LP120xUSB but changed my mind after seeing your review. Thanks, again.
❤😂🎉 Craig I just have to tell you period. I just received my rt81 and it is everything you said it is in the video and more accuracy spot-on tonearm wise speed-wise and I love it! Having owned Computing turntables this one is clearly a winner! I too also have a professional direct-drive turntable was Astro and the Fluance is even better than that
Awesome song !!
love the videos too....thanks for your help.....just purchased RT81 and can hardly wait for it to arrive...and now I know how to set it up
Twiddling my thumbs waiting for Fluance to restock, thanks for the video.
Same here. Luckily for me, it will be back in stock right around my birthday, so I know what I'll be gifting myself.
I love the song at 16:25. What a beautiful melody of inspiration and hope. That hit me right in the feels. 💖💞💕💯🥰🕊There's a Dream on the Horizon. 🤗😊
I already have the audio-technica turntable lp120 but looking for a 2nd turntable. Your video on the RT-81 was helpful. Thank you.
i was looking at this turntable recently.
Thanks.
Wow!!Thank you my brother, this is an awesome turntable!! ...After weeks of search and research I've finally made my decision.
I just purchased a new Fluance RT 81 Turn Table, I hope I made the right choice as compared to the Audio Tecnica, LP 120, I'll find out when it's delivered>>>What an excellent tutorial for Set Up >>>Thank You Very Much>>>!!!!
Brilliant Review. I’ve just ordered this turntable to replace my Eagle, which I’ve had from the seventies.
I must add that I loved the review. Invaluable information. Thank you.
Hey man thanks. Seen a couple of your vids. This one was a big help and I like that your not just like all other vinyl channels
Thanks for the honest review I am going to get this turntable much much better than my 6 in 1 thing I have !!!!!
Thanks a bunch from the 🇺🇸
Great review! I'm sold. I'm ordering this turntable today. Seems like a huge upgrade compared to my Audio Technica LP-60.
Thanks for all the work you do in homebrew and vinyl Craig. You are a bloody legend and very helpful.
Love your work... and love your music too.
Thank you
What a great review. I just purchased the RT81 and can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks!
Awesome review! I can also appreciate how Moving Pictures is your litmus test!
Cheers from a fellow Canadian and Rush fan.
I am so impressed with this turntable. Especially the speed being dead on out of the box. I probably tested six turntables all the way up to a project all of them had to have the speed adjusted
I was thinking about getting this turntable and now I'm completely sold on it lol great review.
Just bought this turntable a few weeks ago. I'm so glad you approve of this guy! It sounds awesome for me as well!
You said RUSH and you sold a Fluance! You are amazing!
Thank you for your help!
i would get rt81 over lp120 because of the price alone
Greeting fellow AT440 fan! Love that cart myself.
Hello Craig, this is such a sincere & informative review, and filled with useful advice. Thank you so much!
Did you end up purchasing this unit? I am right where you were 7 months ago and I am ready to upgrade in the next couple of weeks!!
This video got me so hyped to buy this turntable! Can't wait to save up for it!
As others have said, a fair and comprehensive review, though I'm leaning towards the RT-81 black.
Cool happy you enjoy it.
I picked one up in their pre sale have enjoyed it ever since.
At $250 - $275 seems to be a very good bargain. Looks good, sounds good. Hadn't heard of this 'table before. Thanks for the review and the great music at the end. Cheers!
Craig, nice review and glad there is no hum or motor noise.
AC motor... Ewwww.
Beautiful turntable. I really enjoyed your demonstration. Pretty song at the end, too!
Awesome review, will be ordering mine shortly from your neighbour up north 🇨🇦
Just got my RT81 hooked up today. Sounds real nice.
Thank you for the fantastic review. I’ve also been looking at this turntable. I believe I’m going to be picking one of these up as well. I also have the lp120 and i agree it’s a great turntable. I really love the classic look of the Fluance
Very nice review and lovely sound, just getting back into vinyl, thanks also for the tips.
Again, I own two of these and love them both. Fluance speakers are terrific as well.
Best wishes
Katokid
I'm sure you can contact Fluance and they will take care of this for you.
@@CraigTube Hi Craig thanks for reply, RT81 was swapped out and it is just as you commented fantastic for the money. I have now given it to my daughter for Xmas and I am waiting for the Fluance reference sets to get to the UK and then I will be ordering the RT85.
Oh graig can we still get copies of your records havent seen yours anywhere in the UK?
I have a Thorens TD 147 with a Ortofon OM 20 cartridge, absolutely love it. My favorite song on Moving Pictures is The Camera Eye.
Bought it thanks. Great fathers day gift.
Great review, thank you sir! I found one locally for a great price. Your video helped me make my decision!
Thank you for the review. Just bought one.😊
Nice shirt man ;)
you've sold me on this! awesome review
