Japanese is a difficult language, but I think it is a very beautiful language. As a Japanese person, I am very proud that you are interested in Japanese and want to learn it. Thank you! (Sorry if my grammar is wrong).
I find Japanese language as really interesting language to learn. I learned Japanese/Nihonggo by this year but I can only read and understand Hirigana and Katakana while Kanji is really pretty difficult but I keep on trying to learn it. I keep on watching videos like this also I jot down words and phrases in Japanese movies and animes so I can remember it.

It's been about a decade since I took Japanese in high school, so while I remember most of the hiragana and alphabet, things like grammar and vocab has long since vanished from my memory, so this has been a great refresher without having to completely relearn everything from scratch like most beginner's classes.
here are some of my tips!! • listen for a few days or weeks, you cannot learn a whole new language in 4 hours, especially japanese • try repeating these words, sounds, sentences to yourself DAILY doing something random • STUDY!! i know it's boring for some, but in the end it will be worth it (plus you'll feel smart, trust me) • listen to Japanese podcasts, songs, tv shows, ect. to get the sounds down • watch anime (with Japanese audio of course) this helps get the talking part down and you can find new shows !! hope this helps !! also i might add more
My mother tongue isn't English or Japanese, but both are languages I've learned. Finally, when my English was B2 (for now.) I started learning new languages with English. It makes me feel proud and happy. Edit; Next week, I will take the exam to get my c2 certificate.
the same thing. But I tried learning French first and when I had seen that French pronunciation is almost totally different from how it written I decided Japanese might be easier)
Yeah, I'm doing the same thing. I was a bit decisive what language I should learn, because there are a lot I really love and I also need to improve my English skills a lot even though I have a B2 certificate. I think I will stick with Japanese. At first it was not my cup of tea, however I like Japanese songs.
@@dark_an3251 Next week I will take the exam to get my C2 certificate and I am very excited about it, while studying for my exam I saw this comment. I am truly touched and proud, I hope we all achieve what we want...
Why I want to learn Japanese: • To be a fashion designer in Tokyo • To just go to Tokyo • To learn a new language which I kind of already know some- • To improve memory • To watch more anime without subtitles
Thank you so much for the amazing video. As a Japanese living in the states currently, I always find myself having hard time explaining the basic of Japanese to English speakers including my girlfriend. This video really nailed every single important steps to understand Japanese from scratch. My girlfriend couldn’t pronounce らりるれろ ra ri ru re ro at first, but now she can pronounce it without any issue. To those who started studying Japanese, I’d like to thank you all as one Japanese ! It’s only used in Japan and definitely is not widely used language in the world, but it’s truly interesting language and there’re so many ways to describe things that you can’t English like I studied English and came to the states, I learnt so many things that could never be seen and described in Japan and Japanese language. Learning new languages literally broadens your horizon :) I hope you guys will come visit Japan and have an amazing experience talking to people out there and all!
My first language is french and after learning english, I decided I would focus on a language that I think is just as pretty as my mother tongue. Now that I have started learning Japanese, I find it is the most beautiful language I have ever heard of. Most definitely makes me want to learn more about Japan and its culture! Your comment only motivated me more:) Thank you!
Why i want to learn: To go to Japan and help read things in Japanese and look cool Start yelling in Japanese in arguments to confuse ppl To say rude stuff under my breath in Japanese And talk to myself in Japanese and still confuse ppl
Others: I want to learn Japanese so that I can watch anime without subtitles! Me: *wants to learn Japanese because I accidentally changed my laptop language to Japanese and can’t change it back*
6 hours later: I FORGOT ALL THE WORDS Edit: So this was just meant to be a funny joke, I appreciate the tips on remembering the words but I don't need them.
Japanese seems much easier as a Hindi, Bengali and Assamese speaker. I could find more similarities between Japanese and my native languages than I could find trying to connect English with Japanese. It must be tougher to for English speakers 😅 when I translated the Japanese sentences in Bengali, I instantly understood how to construct a sentence.
I was trying to learn Japanese language and luckily i found this course, and after experiencing this course for 9 minutes straight i have doubt that i have to learn English Grammar first😂
first thing you learn in any language: "my name is _____" first thing you learn in Japanese: "thank you" sums up the Japanese perfectly, insanely polite
Yeahhh, it's so hilarious to me how important respect is in Japan. But at the same time I feel like it's better than The U.S when it comes to Manners :/
And by then, you learn that your pronoun is insignificant to the conversation. So moving on, the next thing you have to learn is to say "sorry". I love them so much. Respectful and efficient
When Japanese learn american English, the first phrase they learn is "hey, a--h-le" To ask if you need to pay at the register or at the table, "hello? can I get some service over here. Ain't got all day." Or, you can just say "ain't got all day" as the waiter passes by. To get by or respond to a bump, "what's your problem, d--khead?" Any variation of "d--khead, a--h-le," etc is allowed and encouraged. When there is a slight disagreement, "awe, hell no." Or "you trippin'" 🤠☠🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚓🚓🔥🔥🔥🔥🧨🧨🧨🔪🔪🔪🍑
I watched this over a year ago when I knew nothing, and watched it again now and I realized I can understand and read basically everything. I want to move to and live in Japan in about 2-4 years for college or when I’m done with college in America and I’ll try to get a good job where I can work from home and it should be good.
Why I want to learn: So I don't need subtitles in watching anime To curse at people in Japanese To talk to myself and let no one understand me Prove that I can learn a whole new language without anyone telling me to Because I'm bored =v=

@@thatbrownweeb1132 it can be said that monolinguals, bilinguals, trilingual and multilinguals all know the same number of words. It's like: Let n be the number of languages you know, And x be the total number of words you know. For monolinguals, their vocabulary consists of n words For bilinguals, the vocabulary in one language is n/x= n/2 And since they know 2 languages they have same vocabulary as monolinguals. And so on... This is what I don't like I'm multilingualism. My relatives and friends who know less languages (everyone knows at least two languages where I live) know so many more words in their respective languages than me in mine. I am currently teaching Japanese if you are interested. The first 10 people to be enrolled don’t have to pay any fee for their lessons, everyone else must pay £2 per lesson. Cheap, right? I don’t care about the money I make, I care about helping other people learn their passion even if it’s without my help. I currently have nobody interested so if anyone would like to learn Japanese, you should tell me, only 10 can study for free! I can teach you the alphabets, and essential phrases you need in real life convos, etc! JapanesePod101 is one of the main reasons I chose to teach, they inspire me. If you would like to learn Japanese with my help, check out my first video for more information.
@@bordeialexandraioana358 well you just spend a few hours learning hiragana and katakana, and then you have to tap into all the spirits in china to help you learn all the kanji characters, their pronunciations, and the meanings to those pronunciations
well in truth this is probably better structured, simple, and visually comprehensible than just a dude standing lecturing for two hours (who may or may not have any native language experience).
so what, you can still learn foreign languages, doesnt mean you have to write or speak them perfectly. Thats why the education sucks so much, of course they need to look at the mistakes you made because thats the only way how they can give you a grade.. but it doesnt mean that you are bad at it. Hell, you can write a book and have tons of mistakes in it, when the story is good they just let the editor fix your mistakes. Our education system sucks.

I am here because I quit Japanese school. I quit Japanese school because I never listened to it as a little kid, so I had no idea what they were saying. I kept wishing to restart from the beginning of Japanese school (kindergarten), but the only option was quitting, or continuing. The only person in my family who speaks Japanese everyday is my grandma. My grandma is pretty old, and I feel bad that I can’t understand her, and she can’t understand me. So, I made it my goal to learn Japanese before she passes away.

if it's english or spanish it shouldn't be so bad (ngl for the grammar as long as ur understood it's good. even high schoolers dont know every rule and say its too complicated for no reason. just learn enough to be understood.) if your language uses the roman alphabet and descends from the latin i think you should have it easier compared to others

my elementary school taught English as a second language and it was pretty good, when I turned 12 I went to another school and they were teaching us the alphabet... the teachers used to call the class: hello student, girls used to say " I has to go to …" or "I go to school yesterday" I'm bad too because I couldn't learn anything new since elementary school.. I'm 14 now
As someone who has lived in Japan and studied Japanese to limited extent, I found speaking in and listening to Japanese is significantly easier than reading and writing in Japanese. Hiragana and Katakana take a little time to get used to, but it is Kanji that really frustrated things for me. To help tune your hearing, try watching Japanese films, TV and sports, especially if it has subtitles - but focus on what you hear. It helps tune your ear to the sentence structure, and you might even spot some differences between what was said and the subtitle translations...
@@Evilofhumanity Watching anime with English subs will not increase your Japanese ability at all, not even by a little bit, multiple studies have shown. The only way to get better at Japanese by watching anime is to have Japanese subs on
Even still. Though it may not make me as fluent as a Japanese child. There are still several words that I have just memorised after hearing it for more than two years in anime. Not saying I can hold a proper conversation. But it’s because of anime that I actually knew a lot of the stuff the video was going on about in the beginning. It's been about a decade since I took Japanese in high school, so while I remember most of the hiragana and alphabet, things like grammar and vocab has long since vanished from my memory, so this has been a great refresher without having to completely relearn everything from scratch like most beginner's classes.
Where did you take Japanese to?
Reasons I want to learn Japanese:
. To understand the music
. I want to travel there some day
. I love the culture
. And to brag to my friends lol
Great
Bragging is the most important point lol

here are some of my tips!!
• listen for a few days or weeks, you cannot learn a whole new language in 4 hours, especially japanese
• try repeating these words, sounds, sentences to yourself DAILY doing something random
• STUDY!! i know it's boring for some, but in the end it will be worth it (plus you'll feel smart, trust me)
• listen to Japanese podcasts, songs, tv shows, ect. to get the sounds down
• watch anime (with Japanese audio of course) this helps get the talking part down and you can find new shows !!
hope this helps !! also i might add more
thank you !
Actually I started to speak to Japanese Siri this helped a surprising amount

My mother tongue isn't English or Japanese, but both are languages I've learned. Finally, when my English was B2 (for now.) I started learning new languages with English. It makes me feel proud and happy.

Yeah, I'm doing the same thing. I was a bit decisive what language I should learn, because there are a lot I really love and I also need to improve my English skills a lot even though I have a B2 certificate.
What made you move to the states ?
Politically, socially… why?
My first language is french and after learning english, I decided I would focus on a language that I think is just as pretty as my mother tongue. Now that I have started learning Japanese, I find it is the most beautiful language I have ever heard of. Most definitely makes me want to learn more about Japan and its culture! Your comment only motivated me more:) Thank you!

Japanese seems much easier as a Hindi, Bengali and Assamese speaker. I could find more similarities between Japanese and my native languages than I could find trying to connect English with Japanese. It must be tougher to for English speakers 😅 when I translated the Japanese sentences in Bengali, I instantly understood how to construct a sentence.
thats correct
Ikr... btw from which state are you? I'm from Assam
Would be easier due to the grammar perhaps?

first thing you learn in any language: "my name is _____"
first thing you learn in Japanese: "thank you"
sums up the Japanese perfectly, insanely polite
Yeahhh, it's so hilarious to me how important respect is in Japan. But at the same time I feel like it's better than The U.S when it comes to Manners :/
And by then, you learn that your pronoun is insignificant to the conversation. So moving on, the next thing you have to learn is to say "sorry". I love them so much. Respectful and efficient
When Japanese learn american English, the first phrase they learn is "hey, a--h-le"
To ask if you need to pay at the register or at the table, "hello? can I get some service over here. Ain't got all day." Or, you can just say "ain't got all day" as the waiter passes by.
To get by or respond to a bump, "what's your problem, d--khead?" Any variation of "d--khead, a--h-le," etc is allowed and encouraged.
When there is a slight disagreement, "awe, hell no." Or "you trippin'"

I want to move to and live in Japan in about 2-4 years for college or when I’m done with college in America and I’ll try to get a good job where I can work from home and it should be good.
Why I want to learn:
So I don't need subtitles in watching anime
To curse at people in Japanese
To talk to myself and let no one understand me
Prove that I can learn a whole new language without anyone telling me to
Because I'm bored =v=

"Learning another Language helps with memory"
I know two languages and yet I can forget your name after 10 seconds
Yes, I know 4 but my vocabulary is garbage in all of them (so we might be in the same boat).
I know three 3 languages fluent enough to survive where they speak only that particular language, and yet i have really garbage memory
@@thatbrownweeb1132 it can be said that monolinguals, bilinguals, trilingual and multilinguals all know the same number of words. It's like:
Let n be the number of languages you know,
And x be the total number of words you know.
For monolinguals, their vocabulary consists of n words
For bilinguals, the vocabulary in one language is n/x= n/2
And since they know 2 languages they have same vocabulary as monolinguals.
And so on...
This is what I don't like I'm multilingualism. My relatives and friends who know less languages (everyone knows at least two languages where I live) know so many more words in their respective languages than me in mine. I want to forget one language.

U CAN DO IT💞💞

ෆෆMERLINෆෆ french aint that bad.. its just our grammar rules are wayyyy too complicated for someone not born in this language 😂 but once you get them you good to go
Angela Mapule what's your first language? All my english friends are fluent in french now ( yes they were young when they started )
Exactly !! I know basic french ( from school) stopped learning it after three years . Then Korean just the alphabets and basics and now I'm trying to learn Japanese 😂😂 I totally get what you are saying
if it's english or spanish it shouldn't be so bad (ngl for the grammar as long as ur understood it's good. even high schoolers dont know every rule and say its too complicated for no reason. just learn enough to be understood.) if your language uses the roman alphabet and descends from the latin i think you should have it easier compared to others
Same like I was in the part constructing setences in Hanguel then this showed up..

my elementary school taught English as a second language and it was pretty good, when I turned 12 I went to another school and they were teaching us the alphabet... the teachers used to call the class: hello student, girls used to say " I has to go to …" or "I go to school yesterday" I'm bad too because I couldn't learn anything new since elementary school..
Me as a sub anime watcher: 🤓
@@Evilofhumanity Watching anime with English subs will not increase your Japanese ability at all, not even by a little bit, multiple studies have shown. The only way to get better at Japanese by watching anime is to have Japanese subs on
@@reidjcsn It was a joke dude.
Even still. Though it may not make me as fluent as a Japanese child. There are still several words that I have just memorised after hearing it for more than two years in anime. Not saying I can hold a proper conversation. But it’s because of anime that I actually knew a lot of the stuff the video was going on about in the beginning. So saying “not even by a little bit” in itself seems Inaccurate.

I've had an interest in Japanese culture ever since I discovered anime and manga. It motivated me to read some Japanese history and that made me even more interested in the culture. So I figure now is as good a time as any to work on learning the Japanese language. Liked and subscribed. : ) Thanks for the video! Domo Arigato! : )
