As an English learner, I can understand most English speakers whatever their accent, but I'm still struggling to understand certain native speakers. I speak English with an American accent, I obviously do understand most Americans and Canadians and some Brits, mostly London speakers. I already know that there are a bunch of English accents spread around the world and that fact makes the language more fascinating, diverse and enchanting. Even North Americans have a great deal of difficulty understanding some specific accents of the UK. Many native speakers struggle to grasp some accents that are part of the same language, and I wouldn't be able to communicate with certain speakers who don't speak with a "standardized accent". And I think this problem has also been occurring in all languages. After all, I was able to understand you at about 90%, you have such clear speech no matter what your accent is. Thanks a lot for helping me out. ❤
You are something.I burst out laughing at the hardest part when I realised I could only follow your story more or less. Thank you, thank you, thank you.🌹
I am currently an international student studying in the West Midlands, and while I can understand English to some extent at school, I've had difficulty understanding the accents of people I encounter in everyday life, especially in places like a garage. I've been curious about their accents and have wanted to better understand their speech. After watching this video, I learned that it's the Black Country accent. I appreciate it!
Wow. I think you would be the last English teacher I've ever met in my whole life time. Thank you so much for your teaching! Since I'm a South Korean, who have finished the master's degree in English-speaking country last year, I was always wondering how to improve my English properly in short time. Now that I subscribe your channel, I'm very confident about what kind of attitude I should take in terms of studying English. Thank you again, mate!
Great video! I'm glad you touched upon the ridiculous, faddish proliferation of "like" now, even though you didn't quite go as far as criticising it! It's so tedious to hear "like" several times in many sentences these days, typically when describing something that actually is, rather than comparing it to something else. "There was like a ladder going up" - it was actually a ladder! The excessive and pointless usage of "like" is spreading rapidly and it drives me mad!
Prabhuji, Present days i am going some hard days. My mind never want to accept forgiveness to wrongdoers but i continuously listening this short video again and again.🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for bringing standard English into "every day " English. I got all of them. I guess it's sort of helpful that I've learned most of my English at the university of life. (Which means though that my grammar is far from perfect) My tip to all you English learners out there is to listen to audiobooks. You can reduce the speed, and the dialogue is often read in the local accent for the area where the story is taking place. I was challenged when I listened to my first crime novel from Belfast.😅 I heard the first chapter twice, and then I bit by bit like broke the code. Good luck to all of you . Practice makes perfect 😊
Fingers crossed to see this comment. It's been a year I moved to UK, I understood all the levels you spoke including the different accents. But to be honest listening in real life isn't that easy, I think there's one more level you should put in your video and you might call it '' epic level '' which would be the real world one :D
you are doing great work, you explain things so smoothly. it has become easy to understand. 😊😊😊 all your videos are so useful, i listen to them whenever i get time. 😊😊❤
Thank you, 'twas pretty interesting ! As an almost-fluent-in-English French bloke, I specially struggled with the words "drama school" in the first story (heard "dra-school"), and "celebrities" in the second one (heard "celies"). In the third story... well I just gave up struggling on the spot ^^
It's amazing how you can switch back and forth between different accents with such fluidity while maintaining intelligibility through what I can only describe as a sweet, cut-grass enunciation that I invariably associate with you, no matter which accent you are using. I feel that it's the kinds of pointers you've given in this video-how to listen and what to listen for when listening to native speakers in a real-life environment-that most of us learners wish we had come across earlier and thus find so helpful in a practical way. Content like this, I think, is another example of why this channel is so invaluable to many of us learning British English. Thank you, Laura! ❤
Hi teacher, I appreciate your best English practice with Listening. When you speak faster like a native speaker, I can understand 80% of your English words, but I don't know how to link words and speak and also the pronunciation. Teacher as you said if I slow down your speech and listen carefully, I can learn it well. It beautiful like watching an English film when you speak faster teacher. I love it
Hola gracias por estos vídeos educativos, mi lengua materna es el español pero quiero aprender inglés y tus vídeos me ayudan, gracias por seguir haciéndolos. 🫂 PD.Eres hermosa
An ingenious idea and compilation it is... indisputably novel, effective and pragmatic.. I am thrilled I came across this.. your directions throughout have not just been enlightening but also reassuring.. and this makes it a great wholesome deal.❤🎉❤🎉 I sound overwhelmed.😄
Hi Laura, first of all thanks a bunch for this beautiful video!! Could you please make more videos using the "Easy or Medium level" ? That could be really useful for no native speakers ! Certo, ecco la traduzione della frase dall'italiano all'inglese usando il verbo "to struggle": I understand you 100% when you use "standard accent", but I struggle to follow your conversations when you change your accent. Thanks from Italy
Great video thanksssss. Could you pls introduce some content that are being spoken in hard level as you talked in this video. Im searching a lot but most of the content are in standard accent not the one people talk in real life except Peaky Blinders, what would you suggest? Thanks
I didn't understand the word in 2:20, in the subtitles is said "Have I not told you this story", but I hear something like "Have I am close to the story", which does not make sense. Is this a form of intrusion or something like this? I fully understood the rest of the easiest level. Thank you!
I happened to encounter your site. I'm an intermediate English learner, I want to learn from you every thing. Would you mind if I ask you that would you have relatives in south France. because I sometimes watch a lady look like you in my favorite site. Her name is Eladie in the site 'Macaron chan'.
You are one of the most extraordinary English teachers in the UK.

Haha! At the beginning of the video you spoke like three different languages :) I noticed that the first one was definitely English! :)
Great video thanksssss. Could you pls introduce some content that are being spoken in hard level as you talked in this video. Im searching a lot but most of the content are in standard accent not the one people talk in real life except Peaky Blinders, what would you suggest? Thanks
What do you use to create your videos? They are fantastic!
Thank you
I want to study more advanced about vocab in English because it must be appropriate to the context
I didn't understand the word in 2:20, in the subtitles is said "Have I not told you this story", but I hear something like "Have I am close to the story", which does not make sense. Is this a form of intrusion or something like this? I fully understood the rest of the easiest level. Thank you!
If I listen to different accents during training, won't it be worse? So then I will speak in mix accents later, ist it?
Thank you helpful
At the end of the video, I was like I can't stop watching Smashing English and listening to you. What am I gonna do? Is there sommit wrong with me? 😂
To me, a Ukrainian, the Birmingham accent turned out to be the easiest to understand, strangely enough.🙂
The same with me
¡Gracias!
