it is actually a better made then OCD and it aint exact clone per se. When you order parts for a pedal, talking about high end parts with enclosure it will cost you max 30$ so when factory makes 100's or 1000's IMHO this price tag of 25$ is normal. Anything above 50$ for classic pedals in paying for name and marketing literally. that is why some pedal builders are rich , in few years they made a bit mounts of $. cheers.
For folks who keep saying it’s muddy. Isn’t that what a) your tone knob on the pedal, b) your guitar tone knob and c) your amplifier equalizer knobs are for?
Sounds great to me. I dont know what these other comments are saying about muddy. The guy who did the video I prefer the Joyo sound rather than his thin sound he was after. If it sounds muddy to you metal heads than it's a good muddy
His amp started off sounding like trash. It's as if he wanted to make this pedal sound bad due to being made in China? I'm no fan of China but they did a good job with this OCD clone.
I always listen to Elmo, bought my Harley Benton Tube 15 thanks to his review and I love every inch of it! ... This are the most honest reviews you can find on UA-cam. Thank you again Elmo! You are a great man. Greetings from Chile
Best pedal on the market. Fantisc sounds. Oh I bought one 😂. Seriously it is more for a blues player. Just use as a bit of boost and dirty the sound a little.
To me the Joyo sounded a crap ton better than what you played as the reference tone. To me the reference sounded empty and hollow. Just goes to show, one person's trash is another's gold. 🤷
Very cool video but what I see here is Muddy distorted cleans and you are adding an ocd clone with all knobs cranked up, This is not a distortion pedal. Gain knob at 12 o clock+ just adds ffuzz and muddyness and thats why youre getting that tone (some people dig into this), JoyoUD is the best ocd clone you can find for less than 40$.
I really do like when you cut between pauses. I don't know how to say but I feel that it gives impression of more instant information. In a matter of fact, I don't remember noticing any too long pauses on your previous videos.
I had this one for a while. It was alright for certain styles of rock music that needed a thick drive sound but i started using a boss od3 soul food and wampler pinnacle. All of which sounded better to me
Sounds great, i don't understand this ''OCD clone '' comments, when some boutique brand copy old boss and adds extra switch and sell it for 300$ then people are in ecstasy. To cut long story short, joyo is great, amazing building quality and it can kick a.. to some big names out there. That is what makes some pedal builders and guitarists angry ☺. Pedal brands can explain why their equally well built pedal cost 10 times more and players are furious due to they can hear were extra 200+$ went? ☺So go JOYO you are doing brilliant job and of course GO ELMO! Stay cool, and believe your ears and ayes, doesn't matter that cost 25$ when quality is killer good. YJM still have DOD so.. i mean he could get any snobbish ''boutique'' OD right? but he is smart and have god ears, he aint gonna throw $ to some marketing....Rock on ELMO!
Remember, this is an overdrive pedal, not a distortion pedal. It's a clone of the OCD pedal. The Ultimate Drive is NOT built for that kind of tone anyway.
It's kind of in between both. You can get a great distortion out of it if you don't allow it to pretend it's an overdrive. If you just want overdrive, you have to dial the gain way back.
I'm looking for an overdrive that can get me a good Thrash Metal tone on a budget because I'm getting a Jackson JS12 dinky too I have an solid state amp with a lead channel.
i must drop another comment regarding muddy, this is OD not a DS also it depends how you dial it. For people who like more rage get 2 of this, or any 2 well made OD and stack it one after another or try their Deluxe crunch, Us dream is more brutal and plexi is nailed Marshal in box actually. Another issue is amp and guitar, simply some amps and guitars are not happy marriage with some pedals no matter how much they cost. for metal i would recommend let say Biyang metal pedal, or Rocktron metal planet is extremely underrated pedal, zombie is amazing as well. Digitech hardwire pedals are awesome choice, they cost under 50$ and building quality is brutally good. Mosky from china make some great cheap pedals as well, i couldn't believe what they sell for 20$. don't blame if you don't like the sound i gave this recommendations as engineer due to those pedals building quality and sound is very subjective category, personally i like all which i mentioned. Elmo rules, thx for uber cool videos.
if any guitarists or JOYO fans in USA want to try it, please find it from JOYO brand store on amazon.com, to make sure you get the original condition or new launched items from JOYO technology, please bookmark JOYO brand store. www.amazon.com/stores/page/535D6CEA-35C4-4040-A8E5-CABB64336A0B?channel=JoyoOfficial Little tips: click the brand name under/up the amazon product's title such as"JOYO", then we can find the brand official store on amazon as we like.
The price of that pedal is what it will cost you for components to build something like this. Chinese people can produce things like this with crazy prices. Unfortunately, when you buy an overdrive you'll mostly pay for the brand. In case you want something handwired, why don't you Do It Youself? In many cases a simple clean booster will do the trick.
It really does sound great. Adds the right amount of compression and you can hear the actual dynamics as he's playing. I just picked on up on Reverb for $35.
Elmo Karjalainen By the way, I wonder how you achieve your legato, the same technique that Yngwie use when beginning "blue" song. I'm trying to do it with a very light touch on the strings, but it seems to be a huge amount of work to get it as you do. Cheers from France :)
Bonjour! And sorry for taking so long to respond. The answer is a long one. I explain legato in my guitar academy (which is still free for the time being). You can find it here: ejkguitaracademy.com
Elmo Karjalainen thank you for the response ! I just checked out and it seems that the different stuff are not free yet (is it about to come and I just misunderstood ?) Anyway, great playing technique, you get me inspired and make me want to work even more ! Salut !
Not my cup either . It was muddy and muffled. Sounded like you put a blanket over the speaker. Your preferred sound is killer. I think I recognized that bit from your video comparing the DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan YJ M pick up. Which pedal were you using there, the Fender YJM?
Sounds like it made his muddy amp come alive, maybe it was muddy there compared to high gain pedals. But yeah those clean tones sounded muddy so that sounded great being played like it’s a metal distortion pedal, which in my opinion says lots for a more overdrive pedal which is what it’s based on. There aren’t very many overdrive puddles that get such a gain sounds which is a plus and at that point that your using it for such high gain it’s typical to make adjustments anyways. Sounded pretty good coming out of a iPhone 11 which is also not easy to do and you did that with a muddy start,.. so,.. I say it’s a good pedal and I’m gonna pull the trigger on this one and try there weird multi overdrive pedal too probably.
it sounds how it spose tp sound. i got one to check out the joyo brand and its night my style either but it does what many players love for hardly any $$. considering all the pedals apart from a small few are made in china now these chinese brands probably use the same circuitry. sad but true. IP theft and i hope trump goes after them for the long run because they steal everything from cars, computers, phones, guitar pedals to missles, fighter jets and so on. its a disgrace so many years no one around the world has stood up to fight for the actual developers.
It's an OCD clone. And it's damn close. It's supposed to be fat with a bit of fuzz. Great for blues leads.
Sounds exactly as it should.
it is actually a better made then OCD and it aint exact clone per se. When you order parts for a pedal, talking about high end parts with enclosure it will cost you max 30$ so when factory makes 100's or 1000's IMHO this price tag of 25$ is normal. I agree with you. The amp started off sounding bad to begin with. It's almost as if he wanted to make this clone of the OCD sound bad...
For folks who keep saying it’s muddy. Isn’t that what a) your tone knob on the pedal, b) your guitar tone knob and c) your amplifier equalizer knobs are for?
A proper dialing in of ANY piece of gear is required to find that sweet spot for your amp/guitar combo as every musician's gear isn't identical.
Sounds great to me. I dont know what these other comments are saying about muddy. The guy who did the video I prefer the Joyo sound rather than his thin sound he was after. If it sounds muddy to you metal heads than it's a good muddy
Whatever floats your proverbial boat :)
Sounds pretty decent to me too but in the hands of a lesser player? Would have been good to hear it with a second guitar..
I think they’re just pissed they paid a lot of money for a Fulltone 😆🤣
His amp started off sounding like trash. It's as if he wanted to make this pedal sound bad due to being made in China? I'm no fan of China but they did a good job with this OCD clone.

I own this pedal. Love it.
You remind me of my good friend who is also a huge yngwie guy and hates this pedal as well. I personally love it for that dirt and grind.
Fair enough.
It serves it's purpose as a drive for my fuzz pedals great for doom metal adding a bit more punch to the distortion.
If you use humbuckers or active EMG will sound better if you’re looking for a specific sound
Sounds Mudy without pedal at first...
I really do like when you cut between pauses. I don't know how to say but I feel that it gives impression of more instant information. In a matter of fact, I don't remember noticing any too long pauses on your previous videos.
Ian Washish Cheers 😊
Love the description that Joyo wrote. It reminded me of when I lived in Japan and a lot of stuff written in English made ZERO sense 🙃
I had this one for a while. It was alright for certain styles of rock music that needed a thick drive sound but i started using a boss od3 soul food and wampler pinnacle. All of which sounded better to me

MusicHunter amen to that. People love to spend a lot of money and claim to be better than us plebeians.

I just picked on up on Reverb for $35.
The pedal is more full-bodied than your tone of choice.
Crap . . .
Only Your playing makes it sounds better
Heah. This pedal ha too much low. May be it is good for some kind of super bright amps with 1x10 cab.
Sounds Muddy to my ears too !
Thanks for making these videos, really helpful :)
Jonathan Lusteau Glad if I can help 😊

David Baker That or the DOD YJM308.

Oh yes, it WILL be muddy if the basic amp sound is muddy, and really your clean sound was a big muddy bog of muddy. But cheers anyway.
Sounds like it made his muddy amp come alive, maybe it was muddy there compared to high gain pedals. Horrible sound from the pedal but awesome playing as ever Elmo. Great reviewing - leaves no hiding place for poor equipment.
John North Cheers! Yeah, it's not great 😊
zzzz...
Lol, it sounds fuzzy because you have the gain turned all the way up, you dingus.
You talk to much...
