- Check out Deep Purple's California Jam on April 6th 1974 - Backstage interviews with the great people behind the scenes, including a rare interview from Ozzy Osbourne as he comes off stage having just performed with Black Sabbath. Awesome!
Hey Deep Purple I was there, and I am still alive. I was 16, and I am 64 now. It was a totally awesome show, and I will never forget. DP Rocks!
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, and Deep Purple. Rare earth 😍 so much more wow I loved growing up in the 70's.
Deep Purple were a pure masterclass at this show
I saw some crazy things when ELP were boogyim down. 🤣🍾🥂
Blackmore...F#&%ING LEGENDARY!!!!!
@@scottsteel2395 Yeah! And Coverdale.
I ws there. Rare Earth, Earth, Wind and Fire, Seals and Crofts, Eagles, Black Oak Arkansas, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and ELP. $10.00. Started at 10am to 10pm, midnight actually. Where did we park the car? Haha. Think I was 14 years old at the time. What an experience............
I watched this video the day before yesterday. I was surprised by many enthusiastic fans. I realized again that Deep Purple is a great band. Thank you🌷🌺🌷🎤👍👏👏👏
Gorgeous 70s chicks😍
I was at Call Jam II and a great many other festivals, in the 70's and early 80's. You could spend all day hearing a bunch of headline bands for about ten or fifteen bucks. It was am amazing time to be a rock fan! They still have them in some parts of the country. Pre-Covid, that is. But none as laid back, inexpensive, and with as much talent on stage as these. It almost seems like it never could have happened, but it sure as hell did. I only wish that they had the entire shows on film. Nobody, anywhere, should be holding back on any of this footage. UA-cam is proof positive that there is an audience for it. Pony up, if you've even got home movies of these great gatherings. Open up the achieves. and preserve the past. People will dig it!
Can get deep purple's live california jam ✌️
@@thomasgeddes8730 That one's on UA-cam. Someone was thinking of us.
@@obbor4 lol used to have the video twice a friends girlfriend atbthe time spitefully taped over first one 🙄 qtr million people cant be wrong ✌️
Love from Greece 🇬🇷💜 deep purple for ever and ever 👍
And ever and forever!
As a nearly 18 year old girl who’s never been to any concert the thought of going to a Deep Purple concert makes me so emotional cuz I don’t know how my life would go without listening to them. Going to a concert, seeing your favorite artists playing your favorite jams live is a very precious thing to experience. It got even more precious when the chance of seeing them felt like it’s never gonna happen. I’m so happy that DP is coming back to Turkey. I got my tickets for their upcoming concert in istanbul.
That was me watching Metallica when I was 18. Back in 1988!!
@@everready2903 I literally saw your comment while listening to battery ahahha
@@appetitefordestruction6899 Looool what a coincidence! Here's a seriously amazing version of To Live is to Die by an Irish Mettalica tribute band. ua-cam.com/video/oG0N9niuGbk/v-deo.html
Deep Purple is an entirely different band today....unfortunately.
Unfortunately, we will never be able to see the real Deep Purple live any more. It's been like that since 1993 when Ritchie Blackmore left the band and became fact when Jon Lord left the band and eventually passed away. Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore were the original founding members. These days it's just a cover band of its' former self. Jon Lord once said in an interview, that this band just don't know when to stop...
Why isn't the entire California Jam Festival out on dvd?
HELLO, MY NAME IS EMILIA FROM BULGARIA. DEEP PURPLE IS THE BEST GROUP OF THE WORLD.
Ozzy: we aren't gonna blow the stage or anything
Ritchie: ... 'be right back ...
ha ha
I want a time machine so bad
THIS lady,s and gentleman ,is Real Hard Rock history.

Ozzy: "The organization is absolutely incredible"
Ritchie Blackmore has left the chat.
Ironically, the issue really was that everything went too smooth and so the organization wanted Deep Purple to come on stage earlier than originally scheduled, causing the dispute.
Love from indonesia deep purple forever,,mark 2 is the best
Hey Uwa
You do realise it was DEEP PURPLE Mark III
who played at the 1974
California's Jam.
David Coverdale AND Glen Hughes were the two singers.
Sayangnya Ritchie Blackmore tidak pernah datang ke indonesia :(
Kapan yah kira kira deep purple bisa datang ke Indonesia lagi

an historic concert of Deep purple.... wonderful register.
I love the 70s I grew up in 70s love the decade the people the music love cali the 70s were a very special different decade I miss the 70s style of life and my friends back then I was a big Elvis Presley fan in the 70s still am today my favorite part of this is everything
I miss it also.
Attacking an ABC-TV camera (broadcasting live) wasn't quite satisfying for Richie Blackmore - so for an encore he set his amps on fire - which had been conveniently doused with gasoline - causing a pretty dangerous explosion on stage - as the band played on. Ahhh yes ... the 70's.
The reason Blackmore attacked the cameraman was because he was pissed off at ABC for calling the sheriff because he refused to go on until dusk as it was in the contract. He also told them time and again to keep their distance because he likes his own space on stage. They didn't listen though.
Always fun to jump in the way back machine and see this old footage!!!!! Thanks for sharing.❤️

Какие молодци, заснять, записать, а сейчас посмотреть, всему этому нет цены.
I've got an interesting bit of trivia to add to the story. It's a little tedious, but bear with me. It's worth it.
The 1974 California Jam (250k+ people) and the 1978 California Jam II (350k+ people) were held at the Ontario Motor Speedway. This could have been the beginning of a beautiful music legacy. Sadly, somewhere around 1980, the Speedway was sold off to land developers. The property exchanged hands a few times, but it largely sat vacant for a very long time - a sad state for a place with such an interesting history.
Early in the 2000s, they finally started large scale building projects, along with some multi-use and residential construction. The largest and most important building of the planned development was the arena.
As of last year, it was the Citizen's Business Bank Arena. It is now owned by Toyota. The arena is home to the AHL team Ontario Reign, an LA Kings affiliate, as well as an indoor soccer team. The arena hosts various conferences, as well.
However, one of the most important aspects of the arena are... drumroll.... the concerts! Yep, the arena is currently situated in what was the infield of the original Ontario Motor Speedway. As luck and history would have it, the ghost of the Speedway is still making space for great music to this very day. 🤘😁
We used to go to races at Ontario and Riverside.
They should revive California Jam, it would be awesome to see the artists that are still active from the 70's and some new acts.
Keep your head up and keep on truckin’

How this whole show isn't available on Bluray I'll never know.
UA-cam has a CalJam channel
Ritchie really made this show famous with his guitar smashing and fireworks.
That kid at 3.10 is pretty much the same age I was in 1974. I had already seen DP twice by that point (one of them earlier on the same tour).
All those nice people are now grandparents.

The late Don Imus
Imus was a great insightful personality who carried that professionalism throughout his long career. Wish he was here now for this turbulent election year
Very cool era when boys and girls loves rock music... they have good taste on music...
I like how they used railroad tracks to roll the stages. I wonder if anyone put a penny on the rails to see it get smashed. What would happen if a stage derailed? lol
💖
Love watching the pre punk youth!
Me hubiera gustado estar ahí!!!!
Nice...
I was two years old at this time, but the 70s were fucking awesome.

"the interviews were horrible
the people that were doing the

There was Ozzy Osbourne claiming to be overawed and unable to speak. Truth is he always was inarticulate, sober, drunk or stoned. No one else had to rely on the bassist to write lyrics. That's why he married someone with brains, as he sure doesn't have any of his own.
The Beatles there🤣🤣🤣🤣
The amount of drugs consumed that day would have been enough for 10 countries. i mean look at them everyone's baked.

coverdale came from nowhere and ruined the purple name with hughes
Actually it wasn’t Coverdale that made Gillan and Glover leave. RB had the hottest band in the world and he shit in it because he got a man crush on Dio and Paul Rogers.
Totally disagree
Maybe not Coverdale so much but Hughes for sure.
Coverdale performance at this show is extraordinary. "Mistreated" is brilliant.
