i swear i bout choke up when i hear part 2 - the “looking back” version. he’s singing bout many of us wood folks who can relate to bout damn near every line. back when the WHOLE family gathered at granny’s house on sunday afternoons. us folk.
Love this song and performance. Listening to it, I started thinking Mr. Coe was singing about my home town. Looked it up and sure enough, I was right! Go Akron, Ohio! Makes me proud!
I had a friend that made bunch of shirts that said blood and tears and beers. And ran up stage with his shirt and got destroyed lol. Me and my buddy had the room next to his son who was on tour with him and had the best time. Santa Cruz
DAC changed my life ..I try to play guitar after all these years on me cause of DAC . Shit I just do the the long hours and under paid but DAC keeps dream alive .
His drummer was Black,..so apparently it's out of his system. Or maybe it was never in his system and he was just having some bawdy fun, like he's tried to explain over the years.
Oh my gosh. I haven't heard David Allen Cole since I lived in Santa Barbara, California, which was I was turned on to his music. I mean I was turned on it before then. Let's just get this straight on my goodness. Gracious I mean that's I mean he had an uncensored music that he put out. Just kind of like kid Rock and uncensored music he put out cuz he always said that word and the f word and he just like he just came out and he was like basically you'd be like if you go anyway doesn't even matter I got to keep. I got to keep it all real or you're just going to kick sunshine off the UA-cam
This version isn’t bad but it lacks the real punch of the old one. My favorite line from any of his songs is “Tryin’ like the devil to find the lord, workin’ like a N!GG€R for my room and board”. It really hits home for several reasons, the biggest of which is how relatable it is to a blue collar working white southern man.
All right! Hank Williams Jr. Oh my goodness gracious Hank Lawrence Junior Johnny Cash really Nelson I can. I can name a name and name a name that true country. All this other stuff out there that's called hip hop country. Anyway, gotta go
The man is 81 now. I'm not, and have never been a fan of DAC because of his lifestyle and his mouth, but as a capable musician and songwriter, that he is. The man has had a hard hard life, and that is something that people think is cool, but its not cool. Its hard. I hope and pray that DAC finds Christ before God takes him out of this world, so he can finally find the real peace his broken heart longs for.
@@jamesbeard239 Whoa, if you made up your mind why bother asking? I'm only repeating what's been stated on his biography. "After being sent to the Starr Commonwealth For Boys reform school at the age of 9, he spent much of the next 20 years in correctional facilities, including three years at the Ohio Penitentiary."
This is the definitive version of this song and this studio band help make this a historical moment on television. DAC Is one of the all-time greats.
I really like this more heartfelt version
¹
It's a great version but, notice how.he won't say the N word no more
@@waltersmith2445 Is that somehow a problem?

Aaand Spotify has officially censored/removed this song from their music library. Crazy times we are in.
Best version out there besides the studio original
not sure why he was wearing a long blonde wig and singing a half bar behind the beat, but it's still pretty damn good.
DAC is the damn man! I say it all the time.
Song isn't the same without the Great Speckled Bird verse at the end.
That's an Akron boy, yo! The OG long before LeBron.

What does David really look like
Hair down to ear length and a beard
where did he serve time in prison at
David Allan Coe spent 20 years in and out of a number of prisons and jails but he most famously did a stint in Ohio Penitentiary, aka Shawshank.
brother in law is good friends with him he never spent time in prison merl haggard did look it up
He did time in reform school in Lancaster Ohio which is now southeastern correctional institute.
you my friend are full of shit and you can tell david I said that

David Allan Coe is great but his wigs have to go
He's an Entertainin' Man, I disagree~
Little Yankee made a good living off of lies about what he did in prison. Still like the yank tho
He made a good living off of the songs he wrote. Not about any lies that he may or may not have told about his time in prison.
@@BST-lm4po We're you in the reform school with him? Or are you just running your pie hole mate?
He's a rebel
Whats up with his hat? Lol
Better song writer than a performer...
Weak comment
A .410 rifle lol
Hillbilly rabbit & squirrel gun of choice lol
Why does he keep wearing these silly-ass wigs
another goofy wig
