To paraphrase the Aliens movie: Because you don't see the aliens screwing each other over for a goddamn percentage. There's a difference between "villains" and "threats"; the aliens aren't villains, they're just a threat.
@@GrahamChapman nearly all major human evil has come from governments. Governments literally are organized violence. So government’s capacity for evil is extensive. A business is simply an organization seeking growth. Which, in a free market, makes it far more prone to provide a good or service people want since they don’t have the right to violence like governments do. When a government doesn’t get what it wants then it takes it by force. When a business doesn’t get what it wants it has to provide a better good or service. It’s the lack of the ability to understand this that makes lines like the one you quoted feel so unrealistic, disingenuous and just makes the characters actions feel unrealistic. Why would Burk want to kill people when they have very little chance of survival and it would be far easier and less evil to just try to sneak a face hugger or 2 back to earth with him? That seems far more in line with his character than having a sudden unexplained change to pure evil because “freedom bad” or whatever the hell message the film is trying to portray. It is far more important to question a government than to question if freedom is moral. But it’s fascist Hollywood so what do you expect?
@@Quincy_Morris You're MAJORLY hand-waving approximately ALL of the harm that businesses and the free market can cause and _have_ caused with that "a business is simply an organization seeking growth" rationale... Hell, by that same argument you could hand-wave that a government is just a political unit administrating public policy seeking its own form of growth. Not to mention the fact that these "nearly all major human evil has come from governments" and "when a government doesn’t get what it wants then it takes it by force, when a business doesn’t get what it wants it has to provide a better good or service" arguments ignore the fact that private interests, including organizations and businesses and/or government officials with connections, ties and interests tied to businesses, have been a major force throughout history that've been using/exploiting governments to promote and further their own agendas for ultimately self-serving growth and profit while ducking blame and pinning in on the government rather than the private interests that get involved with the governing process. Ergo, when businesses don't get what they want they often take it by force THROUGH governments -- the blame ultimately rests not in the governments for existing, but the private interests, organizations and businesses who exploit governments for their own self-serving agendas. Lately I've found that it's far more important to question what people like you even mean when you invoke the word "freedom", because whenever neo-liberals, objectivists, anarcho-capitalists and other people of that ilk start talking about protecting "freedom" from governments, what their agendas tend towards _in practice_ is geared towards something along the lines of "our freedom to exploit and abuse others, and especially so people who are already vulnerable and/or exposed, with the flimsy justification that our businesses must be allowed to grow." One of the biggest crimes businesses ever committed was infiltrating governments and ruling that businesses are people. I see plenty of private individuals (e.g., Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, the entire US republican party as well as a non-negligible portion of its right-wing leaning democratic party, etc,) be willing to doom themselves along with the rest of the entire human race via COVID and climate catastrophe just to keep their profits growing, so I wonder what reality you live in where Burk is in any at all way an unrealistically evil man. Greed makes people act against their own long-term self interests... or perhaps it's more accurate to say that greed make people value monetary interests above both higher values (e.g., democracy, justice, accountability, the importance of proper legislation and regulation restricting corrupt entities from being able to get away with doing whatever they want, etc) and such basic stuff as their own (and their race's) sustained well-being and continued survival... Kinda like an addiction in a way... Well, I for one expect people not to be hypocrites who criticize Hollywood-brand "fascism" while promoting a world order that's much closer to fascistic in practice. (You made another warning bell go off in my head btw; throwing around the word "fascism" to attack something that you perceive as authoritarian that infringes upon the brand of freedom that you value while paying little heed to how it checks off on the list of the 14 characteristics of fascism, all while supporting business and market models with a history of promoting human values that are in line with fascist world views, it all just kinda makes it sound like you're trying to appropriate the word "fascism" in order to scare people away from political ideas that you personally don't agree with.)
@@GrahamChapman private businesses by definition can’t legally use force. If they do that’s crime and makes the organization criminal. It’s the government who uses force. Which is why most evils are caused by governments and most goods (literally called goods in a lot of cases) are caused by businesses. Any food you eat, medicine you take or technology you enjoy exists because a business made it happen. Where’s governments are responsible for every war, tax, and most genocides.
@@Quincy_Morris Which is why they use force through governments. There are gaps in the laws, and private businesses are really good at backing politicians who are willing to make even wider holes for them. (Was that "goods" thing a poor attempt at an equivocation? 'Cuz you do know that's a fallacy, right?) Making a business out of proving people with food, water and medical supplies, things we need to survive, is evil -- access to those things should be human rights, not about financial gains. Equally so, you say "tax", as if taxes are bad, but they're not as they are (if properly regulated and not allowed to fall into the pockets of donors and private interests) what finance our societies as a whole, from public infrastructure to healthcare and education. And private interests are the ones responsible for most wars, especially when it comes to all the wars and armed conflicts perpetrated by and/or financed by the United States over the course of the last 100-ish years.

'Cuz you do know that's a fallacy, right?)
Making a business out of proving people with food, water and medical supplies, things we need to survive, is evil -- access to those things should be human rights, not about financial gains.
Ohhhhhh yeeeaàaah
