As someone who owned and drove cruisers quite a bit in the Netherlands I'd like to make this point: Practice makes perfect, never be ashamed to try and become familiar with your boat. I got to the point where I could reverse into a narrow boathouse without using bow-thrusters, regardless the wind, just by practising for hours. Might have driven my wife insane at the time, but man did she like the control when approaching a tricky mooring!
As an experienced skipper said - a bad skipper blames his crew.
Split-screen would be useful then we could see as you talk the reaction of the craft. Good show anyway.
Nice video & vary informative. Where can I find videos with a overview of all the controls on a boat such as this to show what they are, what they do & how the controllers work?? If someone can help me, let me know please, Thanks.
tip 1 and 3 were the same. if you use the wind right, can do it with a single engine boat too. done it with a rib last year
Nice informative and educational video... Thank you for sharing... Regards
very nice way to learn motions of boat in port
Thank you so much 👍
Good review
I love all of these videos but would love a few of these guides with single stern drives.
No difference, as the boat shown here was operated as a single stern drive, IMHO.
Nice video. For me, this would have been a little easier to follow had the helm shots been looking over the shoulder of the helmsman to give a POV perspective.
Like too see him do it on the conwy river! on a full spring tide running at 8knots
Spent several hours in Conwy river just last week with a good instructor practicing docking in our high sided single stern drive boat, tricky stuff
You can add the St. John River in Jacksonville. The only thing he needs to learn is how get if off the dock.
Also one of those Tube Bandages on the index finger helps
That joystick is amazing
Very very very Good
Next time it would be cool if the camera view was over his shoulder
I have never seen anyone work the steering wheel that much. But it worked
especially when you operate dual stern drive boat =)
What boat are you using in this video? Some Sort of azimut?
Unfortunately the video did not make use of a double screen one showing the helm, another a synchronized aerial view if the vessel while maneuvering.
fghiehd korinf; Exactly... or PIP picture in picture view.
screen 1: birds eye view. screen 2: show first person view, looking at wheel and controls.
we dont need to see dude's face...his audio is sufficient
I've come to the conclusion after watching some videos my controls are the issue they are so hard to move
Now do it with some wind and current. And hands off the bow thruster. That would make it impressive!
I don't think he made this video to showboat his skills. Rather to explain how to move sterndrive boats fitted with bow thrusters sideways.
Ya it’s boating 101 and I found it very helpful.
Seeing the boat that was used in the example, I was expecting him to just say "push both bow and stern thruster sticks towards the dock" or "move the joystick to the side"
Is it IPS we have the same boat.
It doesn't matter in terms of the task resolved
He said the boat has stern drives and a joystick, did he mean IPS drives?
"The English and Americans are two peoples divided by a common language." .....Bernard Shaw ☺
Can a single engine boat be walked sideways? I have a Tahoe Q6 so that is a 20ft bow rider. Any reason I couldn't learn how to do it in mine?
Unless you have a bow thruster, no, you can't walk a single-engined boat sideways; there's no way to apply differential thrust.
I tried anyway and did manage to kinda walk in sideways using a wind blowing over the stern, i turned the stern towards the dock and the bow was blown round. After repeating this a few times I got against the dock but it was more luck than judgement. Without wind I doubt it'd happen.
Good job. Learning to use the wind and current...and spring lines...is essential on a single-engined boat.
That's not true
There's no reason with practice and proper technique you can't come pretty close. Depending on wind / current making a difference as you pointed out, but with practice you'll soon be able to at least get pretty close. Good Luck with you're boating, Enjoy...
wow it must be hard to maneuver a boat with 2 props and a bow thruster
I was thinking the same thing myself ....LOL....
UH! NANI!? Kansei Dorifto!
He used thrusters almost every time . Do it without any thrusters
I was thinking the same thing. I work at a marina and had to do this in a Baja that had twin screws and it was fairly difficult in the wind.
Dont get me started on single screw.
I think you'll find he only used the bow thruster on one of the 3 manoeuvres. The wake from the port side halfway along is the starboard engine in reverse.
All you demonstrated is that you can’t dock a boat without the bow thruster. Why lie to people, when the point is to make an instructional video?
do not see the point with the joystick when one have thrusters
In case your infant child needs to bring you into dock.
Ah, ah, ah…@5:35 you cheated with the bow thruster
What boat is that?
It is an Azimut Atlantis 43
No wind and no current
:)))) Funny video
Jesus, what a performance. "This is a boy with a toy"
Thrusters..... give me a break....
Twin engines w. bow thrusters and a joystick. If someone w. that setup is watching a UA-cam video on how to maneuver a boat, then they should sell their boat.
I disagree, I've watched many of people who are relatively new to using that setup. I would hope they not only watch the video, but take lessons prior to destroying there boat and others. Same concept as learning to use you're electronics. It's all there, latest, greatest tech, if you don't know how to use it, It's useless.
lol, was kind of thinking that. If you have a joystick it should be very easy. :)
@@marktindal2186 Only for youtube armchair experts. In the real world, people pay for tutoring all the time.
Good business if you can get it my friend. I'm thinking of setting TV remote control classes. ;)
I seen the bow thrusters at the end. Cheater lol
All very nice...now add wind, waves, current, other boats coming in and out with angry pilots, fatigue after a big day, non-electronic controls, non power steering, no bow thruster, no joy stick and concrete edges on the dock. Please do that video. If you can nail that you'll be a legend.
Instructions unclear--boat sitting on surface of dock
Having all those different options like bow thrustor etc this video is totally unnecessary. If you can´t move the boat with such help - sell the boat and do something else!!
Well aren't you gods gift to boating. I'll bet if you owned a boat with these features you would be using them
Terrible teacher. Too much waffle
Come on man you have bow thrusters
