Hello, I am from the Netherlands and we have those cheap stores where you can buy almost anything. I think every country has such store. Go there and buy a cheap self healing / self mending cutting pad, the green ones. I cut a A4 in half and use those as clear plates. After a while they do warp but a night under a pile of paper and they look perfect. My Gemini works for more than a year and it’s going very well. The cutting mat costs € 2.75 = 2 halves is what you need. Succes !
I have the large gemini and yes the plates warp but what l do with my plates is put them in a bowl with a weight on the top and pour boiling water on them leave to get cold and plates are straight
You're awesome for this video; what patience; here's what I use and get perfect cut: original clear Gemini Plate on bottom, Gemini plastic shim; Gemini metal shim; other brand name metal shim (it's thicker); Gemini magnetic mat; chrome precision base plate. Nothing has warped yet *YAY*. the magnetic mat gets a workout but still good!
Thank you for sharing this information on the Gemini Junior. I just bought a used machine at a garage sale last week for $60.00. I'm looking forward to using this machine many many times in the future. 😊
I have both the large Gemini and the jr. and like you experienced tremendous warping. The cost to replace are ridiculously expensive. I purchased Anna Griffin Empress and find her plates and accessories to be of a higher quality. The plates, magnetic plate, and metal shim are much stronger. Have been using the empress for several months now and have experienced little if any warping or bowing, and am extremely happy with the cutting and embossing quality I have experienced with the Empress, especially in cutting the intricate dies. In addition the cost to replace the whole set of accessories are cheaper than the Gemini plates.
I will try this. One gal used a self healing cutting mat and when I tried her sandwich I thought I’d broken my machine! Scared me to death. But it’s ok... I’ll just not try her particular sandwich. Thanks for this hint! Bless ya! 💕🙋♀️
I sent my AG machine back. After 4-5 times of using it the plates looked like the gemini plates you just showed. I've been working with die cutting for years and was very disappointed. I use the Big Shot now.
Sorry but I lost patience after eleven minutes when I still hadn't a clue what your non-warping sandwich is. It may be good but it's a long watch to not find out,
I have the Empress and have used it extensively. I love the machine and haven't had a problem with the warping. I've had to flatten the magnetic plate a couple of times. It is a fantastic machine. Thank you for the video.
What I've been using which works really good is sizzix precision plate on bottom then cuttlebug magnetic mat, 4 gemini metal shims, paper, die and then another precision plate on top. So far only one die do I have to add another metal plate in the sandwich to cut, but what I like about this is the metal shims stick to the magnetic mat so they don't move and neither does the paper or dies.
Felicia, I watched this video because I just had the Gemini delivered today & I'm super excited about using it - anyhow, loved your video, you make me laugh & smile 😊 thanks for sharing all your ideas & tips! 💓
@@dixiehornbaker6390 i know it! I don't die cut alot, i make a card here & there....my plates are toast! I just received the replacements I ordered on Amazon. My hubby had gotten me the Vagabond for Christmas so I should have never ordered the Gemini, I'm gonna start using the Vagabond as I've been told that the plates will last longer & just overall a great machine.
Very helpful! I have been going crazy with my warped plates. I have four bandaids on my fingers right now from the metal shim because it will not stay in the sandwich and you have to push so hard to get it started. I will have to give this a try! Thanks so much!
Check the videos for Gemini, they tell you to flip and turn with every cut, or they will warp. The plates will warp on side that is cut on more. My plates started straightening after I started cutting on the side less cut on. Just FYI.
I was very diligent on flipping and turning every time I cut. Well, I only got the machine in May and have already gone through 2 sets of plates. It is the Gemini Jr. and I am very disappointed. I did order the precision base plates but don't want to void my warranty.
Alternate the cutting plate each time you use them by turning them over side to side and top to bottom mark your plate with ... A ... one side and ... B ... on the other side and your plates won’t Bow as much because you are not putting them in the exact same way everytime ... also put your dies in different spots not just in the middle ...
I have had good results by putting the plates in the sink and pouring BOILING water from kettle on them and weigh them down so they are flat and leave till cold worth trying
Thank you, Sonya. I just placed one of the very warped plates in the sink, poured boiling water on it (both sides) It really didn't need to be placed under heavy books, although I have done so. The plate just straightened right out in the sink. Like Magic!!! This also cleaned out the paper that was trapped in the cut lines.
Yes!!! I took about 8 cups of water and heated in the microwave for about 10 minutes. I then put my plates in a casserole dish larger than my Gemini plates. I then poured the hot water over them... presto!!!! Not only did they flatten out, the paper cuts also came off instantly. This worked on my Gemini plates as well as my Cuttlebug plates, however, did not work on my Spellbinder Platinum 6 plates, seems like nothing works on those.
My plates don't/didn't warp. The sizzix plates are thicker, therefore more pressure and more warping. Gemini plates are for the Gemini opening and calibration of the machine.
My Gemini ll has badly warped my cutting mats, shim and magnetic mat, but only recently. The machine stopped accepting the sandwich. I'm cutting my loss and ordered a new Gemini ll. So any hints and tips will be useful.
There’s a video I forgot who made it I’ll have to look it up unless you’ve already seen it you can fix that with boiling hot water two pots and a baking pan you put one of them in the baking pan in the sink pour the boiling water over it and put the second pot on top of it like that’s it and it’ll straighten them out and clean them
Hi I saw one of your sandwich videos and in experimenting with interchanging your plates, remember when using the self healing mats you need to place your cutting dies cutting into the self healing mat, you had it on top for thickness! Sorry but wrong! which ever way you place cutting dies up or down you need to cut INTO the cutting mat-okay? Thanks
I have the regular Gemini and the Junior as well as Anna Griffin's Empress and Empress mini. The Gemini's are in dry dock because Anna's magnetic plate is AWESOME. Your sandwich cuts right into it, so you don't need tape. I've had the machine for a year and have never replaced my magnetic plate...if you rotate the plates, they will wear in time, but NOT like Gemini. I only use Empress now.
I found that if I only used one of the precision plates that nothing warps and the precision plate does not split apart. I've been doing it for about a month or so now and did massive amounts of die cutting for my Christmas cards.
Great Mary. One of my other sandwiches (not yet shown) is to use just one plate but I needed more testing. This is great news! Thanks for sharing. Blessings...
I own the large gemini cutting machine. I was running thru all the plates. I turned them as the company suggested each time I used them. I watched a video telling me to use a cutting board as a replacement and at this time it is working so good!
I'm having the same problem with the courture creations go cut and emboss. After the plates warped and bowed after just a few times, complained, only to be told today that the plates are consumables and I can buy new ones next month when they come in stock. I am going to consumer affairs, because as you say, they are not fit for the purpose. I have had a Big Blue for well over a year and the plates are still flat, even though I have used them hundreds of times. Very frustrating when these companies are happy to take your money for cheap products :(

I have bought the Gemini A4 and only had it 12 weeks and the plates are completely bowed and I can hardly get it through the machine. tried alternating sides and everything. Useless. Thankyou for your great video.
I’d love to know how people stop their plates from leaving marks on their cardstock. I have tried so much, paper in between the die facing up, rotating the plates. Tried taking plates out the sand which but then doesn’t cut through properly. It’s annoying as I make to sell
I have the Empress...used moderately, warped plates but the draw back is the two plates that go in the middle are smaller than the cutting plates so that limits how large of a die you can cut. Can't go over the size of the center plates.
Thanks for sharing LauraThe Empress was next on my list but I think I'll stick with the Gemini for now as long as my sandwich continues to work. Blessings...

Sara says to use your machine with dies up or down...personal choice:) If you use their sandwich, just flip it upside down. She knows most of us want to SEE where our dies are on the paper LOL It is the manufacturer who says dies up because they do give a cleaner cut since the cutting surface is closer to the rollers which provide the pressure. I never have cut with the die face up and don't know many who do LOL
The sizzix plates that are coming apart, were made for the die to cut into black side not the printed side. That could be the reason the black side is coming apart on you.

Man can walk on the moon, so why can't die cutting machine manufactures make plates that do the job, without wreaking the plates, why do we have this problem again and again. the Spellbinder GC had plates that do not bend, so why are we still plagued with bending plates.
I put my warped plates in a shallow pan , pour boiling water over them and put a pot of hot wate on top. In about 15 min the plates are straight.

Man can walk on the moon, so why can't die cutting machine manufactures make plates that do the job, without wreaking the plates, why do we have this problem again and again. the Spellbinder GC had plates that do not bend, so why are we still plagued with bending plates.
