Karen, your shelves are wonky because you have 4 long and 4 short poles and you don’t have them on the same level. It should be easy to fix. I loved your video!
I started a quilt last night. Whenever I do that I get obsessed with it. Did not do dinner dishes!😕 I got up and started to quilt again....walked through the house and stopped myself. I worked really hard this week to do some early spring cleaning and I was about to blow away all my work. So...deep breath and did a Sunday refresh like Michelle says. Now I can quilt guilt free. Yeah me!🙂
Oh that's awesome! Guilt free quilting!! 🙌 I used to quilt years ago and I understand how it feels to be "in the zone"!! It's hard to get up!! I would love to see your quilts! (I need to d a little Sunday refresh too!! ) 💐
After a good amount of time working on decluttering and passing items on to others, you may have family members, and friends, who are perplexed about this process. Recently I have been down sizing a doll collection (50 years old), and sold a curio cabinet that they were kept in. I had some surprising responses from family members of “why” and “how could you do that”? They do not understand the “Swedish death cleaning” approach until you explain it. After you explain they begin to understand, and in some you can see their own minds start to think about it as related to their own situations. It’s a mindset that is an actual gift for the giver and the receiver. Your videos are great. Thank you so much❤️🐕🐕
Hello friend! You are so right! I can think through a whole process and watch videos and be confident of my decisions and I have to remember that others were not along on that journey and don't understand where I am at. Thanks for your encouragement, my friend!! Enjoy your Sunday! 💝
Looking better with each work session. It’s going to be so much easier to find things - and to go back through later for another declutter round. Slowly and methodically working your way around the basement. Great job! 👍🏼
You are doing brilliantly, Karen. It is great that you reorganised those shelves, as they look so much better now. I think it really shows how determined you are to keep going and because of that you are making such progress in your basement space. Also, as an aside, I have really noticed how much more stamina you’ve gained since being on your weight loss journey; and the fact that bending down to get things from the floor seems easier for you as well. That must mean that your knee is much better now too, which make me so happy for you. Well done! 👏🌸🌺♥️
Hi Beth!! Thank you for all of that encouragement! 😃 Yes! I am much more able to move more easily and work longer which makes me very happy and relieved!! Happy Sunday, dear friend!! ❤️🌹❤️
yes, So Valuable! I too called the previous years the collecting years - and now I'm in the dispersing years. I keep asking myself, "what am I saving this for?" If I don't need or want to use it, I look for who it needs to go to. If no one, time to donate/trash/etc. Not selling almost anything :) But, from where I am sitting in the living room, I can see several large piles of things that need to go out. That really is hard, maybe tied with decision making. I guess your next question will be, "is it something I want to move?" My Emilys (daughter and DIL) are coming one day this week (with 8 kids) to help with some stuff. We'll see how that works out, haha. I'm still slogging through my office desk drawers (soooooo slooowwww) but I'm going to cherry pick my knitting stuff out of my sewing room for them to claim. That could result in some freed up space in there. I'll keep a bit as I do imagine enjoying some more knitting (and wool is expensive, and my best fast needles are expensive and hard to find) but hopefully all the good intention projects and such will leave. I think daughter Emily will also do some attic sorting for me (I'm actually allergic to dust, which makes attics a bit tricky). I think we'll also finally send a package to another DIL (I procrastinated). I am looking at the time after the office declutter and wondering if my sewing room won't get the attention I want to spend on it. I started some indoor seeds this weekend for the garden (meaning, garden season is coming fast) and we started lambing last week 10 weeks sooner than planned (the ram broke out in September evidently) so my home time will start being split. I have to laugh (in a happy way) whenever you say you might move towards a more urban life, to have easier travel and job opportunities, etc. I think about moving to our farm so I don't have to travel to take care of my (and more so my husband's) responsibilities there. But, referring to your answer to a different question in these comments, "file it under complicated". Isn't that the truth! oh, and we have a cellar, not a basement. I'm defining that as a non-swept area! It is quite small and the walls are made of rocks. It has our boiler and water heater and freezer and canning stuff and winter squashes and paint. It is quite low. So, I'd only sweep if something got broken, like a canning jar. For the record, I don't sweep the attic either, unless there is something messy, which how would I know, because it all makes me sneeze. You started your video saying something like "there's always a reason", and "I'm allergic to dust" is a reason I've clung to for decades. Well, I saved this video for the last one of today (Sunday) because I knew you would say, "God loves you" and that's how I want to end the day. Thanks for not disappointing :)
Hellooo Karen! Wow, back in the basement, it truly never ends I don’t think, decluttering is not just for Christmas it’s for life😂 I’m decluttering the craft room drawers again, it’s surprising how we continue to be able to let things go that survived the 1st, 2nd pass etc. I think it shows we’re progressing a little each time in not feeling so emotional about what is mostly just stuff. I’ve sold a fair bit of my craft sets too, I don’t want to leave lots for my kids to have to sort. Absolutely wonderful to see you my friend, you’re looking so trim these days, you are and we’re always beautiful. As always my lovely, lots of love and light to you from me. 🥰🥰
HI Pam! You are so right!! With every pass I find more and more! Less and less is valuable to me! Thank you for all of your encouragement to me! I love hearing what you are decluttering!! Lots of love coming your way!! 💐♥️
Look at you go that looks great alot better then when you started. You will get it done as always. Maybe wait for warmer weather. I know I had 1 nice day. But it is nice and cold again. Spring is coming
You are so right Karen when you say when you are young you collect when you get to our age it’s got to go. Thank you for sharing. You are doing amazingly! Xx 🇬🇧🤓💐
Yay! Karen fix! So nice to see you! You look awesome! Great work on the outdoor activities. I know that area has been bugging you! And great to get Robin’s treasures up off the floor. I don’t have a basement - just a garage. I sweep it when something accumulated and definitely try to get a good sweep in in late fall to rid any leaves and and grass clippings that got blown in. I wipe down totes or shelves only when there is visible dust growing. (Also a good indicator that I haven’t used anything from that tote for awhile.) Have a great week! Hugs, Em ❤❤❤❤
Thanks, Em!! Thanks for sharing what you do! I need to do more "wiping down". I also have the desire to keep my new furnace nice and shiny!! 😂 HUGS!! 🤗
Good to see you! Great work! Sorted and swept my little garden shed out yesterday. We had some cardboard that needed breaking down. Took stock of what we had and what needed to be ordered( not much). My son sorted out 2/3 rd of his walk through last week, and was donated. He ordered new spring and summer items for our challenging conditions here. After his online classes are finished, I am going to get an art storage system for him. Today is clean the main floor floors day.
First of all, you look amazing! I also have a pile that need to make it out of my house. I feel that when I have things under control I find another corner or closet that got overlooked! But as you said we need to keep pecking away at it!💕
Thank you, Sharon!! We got rid of one load to Goodwill and one to the dump yesterday which you will see soon and there is STILL more!! We're pecking away at it together for sure!! 🙌
No basement, so outdoor sports equipment, yard tools, and regular tools are in my one car garage that my car goes into every single night. Shelves and pegboard do wonders!! The garage is blown out (leaf blower) every month and twice a year emptied and power washed. Making myself move everything and scrub it all is a great incentive to declutter!! Good job on your basement! I know it feels better and is more functional.
Nice job! The shelf looks so much better. You look amazing! Congrats on your health journey! I am in the same season of life as you and we are ready to get rid of so much and we have. I think it hurts our sons feelings because we want to purge some of their old stuff. But trust me they have left ALOT here!
Think of all the work you have done so far in the basement. You have really achieved a lot and it will make it a lot easier when you do do a second declutter. When you go over it again you will find even more stuff to declutter and this will make the move so much easier. You will love a life with less stuff to clean, less stuff to maintain and organize. A clutter free life gives you time to do things you love.
I have done this before where the to go stuff gets mixed in with the keep or to sort. I now wear a roll of masking tape on my wrist like a bracelet and have a sharpie in my pocket so as soon as I designate something I quickly tag it with a piece of tape and it has helped me so much especially with cardboard or even bins. I also label shelves this way to help others if they are looking for something. I love your channel and wish you well in all life has to offer.
Great video. I love it. The bright shelve only need to get removed the sticks between the bottom parts. There are 2 different sizes of sticks which got little messed up. Thank you for being so honest in your videos. Showing the reality of forgetting to bring stuff out or finding things you are surprised about or even with sometimes losing our focus, cuz life is asking for other things AND going back to the things we want to change in a long term. Very helpful video. And am super thankful for you content.
Thanks for the shelving explanation, Melanie! That makes sense! It looked so wonky!! 🤣 I am so thankful you find these videos helpful! I am thankful for friends like you here that help me feel safe to be honest! 😍
@@ThisMainerMom It´s important to be honest. That is the only way people like me, which are also decluttering and searching for "company" out there or people who understand the situation and can not find that local, find a place to feel "okay". There are so many types of lifestyles and each person or household is different. At least it helps me a lot, to see real life decluttering journeys, to know it´s super fine only to be a human. Forgetting about stuff, deal with other things and still learn to give myself grace, when I am not that superwoman which has everything 24/7 under control. One day I will have learned: I try to do my best and that's it. Nobody is asking for more, than keep going, even when there are time I feel like a failure. (Which mostly a creation in my brain or a harsh comment from a person without empathy or doesn't like me anyway.) People which love me, maybe don't judge that harsh like I judge myself. Your videos and what you are saying is very helpful. You encourage to keep going. You encourage to give us self grace. I feel understood, when I watch you videos. That is so satisfying in a deep touching way, that there are no words to explain it.
Karen, I think you did a great job in the basement! I have my things in zones. I am little by little moving the zones so that it is easier for me and how I use what is left after decluttering the first round. Keep up the good work!!
I love your basement declutters. Cant wait to see all the free space that you will have when you finally get rid of all thaf stuff that you identified as declutter. 🤩
Hi, I don't have a basement, but if I did, it's good to sweep it and mop it on a regular basis because of dust. I know it's a pain, but it's got to be done for health reasons if not for any other reason. Most people suffer from dust allergies among other allergies, so sweeping and mopping is a must. I don't know how smooth is your basement, you could get a robot sweeper? Forgot what they are called. It's worth it be a use it goes even under the shelves if they are high enough for them to go under, but at least the dust will be under control.
I’m almost 50 and I’m decluttering again. I had done so well when my kids were younger. Monthly thrift pickups helped me so much. With my boys I used the two out one in method and tried to not buy much. As they always got a lot of stuff at birthdays and holidays. Now, as I go through some stuff from their childhood(my boys are 23 & 19) I asked them do you want these and they say no to everything. I have tons of photos that haven’t seen the light of day. And I think if it were up to them, they’d toss them. Or take a picture of some with their phone. 😂 I have enjoyed watching your process. Now I need a photo declutter and organizing video. ❤
yes, i keep down sizing what i have. because i know if i end up moving for health reasons or landlords health reasons i want as little as possible. Its a scary thought cause what family i have is dwindling. Im praying that i find a place before it comes to that. you are doing awesome. ! 🙏🙏💗💗🤗🤗☕☕
Those were some smart moves to organize the basement. Regardless of how much there is left to do, you're making visible progress each time you work down there.
We have a lake across the street and then with 7 kids you accumulate activity! 🤪 Then there's the 4 seasons and activities for each! Everyone wanted snow boards this year but just kind of ignored it for now! We really haven't had a lot of snow storms! ☃️🏂
Always good to see you in the basement! I find that making the 'to go' actually go is the hardest part because I rely on Keith taking it. The good news is that I had cateract surgery on Tuesday (best Valentine's day ever) and hopefully will be driving again by summer when I have had the other eye fixed. I'm in a new world at the moment. The basement is looking great, so well and logically organised. Well done
You went down stairs. You had a plan. And, you rolled up your sleeves and got it done. LOL Enjoyed the video. Hope you have a great evening. And, a wonderful week. Love you my friend.
What a satisfying video Karen!! And the clown music, during the attempt to fit the containers of balls on the shelf! 😂😂😂 I can’t wait to see future videos of you doing all the things you mentioned. ❤😊❤
Oh goodness, yes and I shortened that attempt in editing because my brain could net accept that it wouldn't fit! 🤣 I am so glad you are enjoying these videos! Have a great Sunday, Carrie!! 💐
Life jacket with you in the boat is the same as helmet on a bicycle handlebar. And girl look at you! Your bottom and your tights. 🤩 Wow! Yes, I vacuum and dust my (unfinished) basement somewhat regularly. (Otherwise the spiders would totally take it over!) Hugs from Germany ♥
Karen, what a great declutter session! You are so beautiful! Inside & out, dear friend! 😊 Your hard work is showing both in you and your home. It’s easy to get sidetracked when you are busy with life and “forget” to follow through with things. I will put donations in a pile and keep adding to that pile until it gets huge, then it’s a project in itself to clear out. 🤦♀️🤷♀️ I had 5 large 5 drawer and 3 smaller 2 drawer filing cabinets I cleared out and donated them all except one 5 drawer currently. I am decluttering more paper stuff so it may also be donated in the next couple of months. 👏🏻 Maybe if you centralize the totes and boxes to go through again it will help because of it being a bigger pile visually that needs dealing with. 🤔 I am trying to spend 20 minutes a day shredding old papers I have decluttered, I don’t like the job because it creates dust which aggravates my allergies so I tend to procrastinate and let it sit. I have spent 20 mins daily this past week and have made a serious dent in the pile. 🙌 I am going to keep at it till it’s all gone and I have decided to continue shredding on a daily basis to keep piles from forming going forward. Thank you for sharing about goals. It really helps “hearing” another’s perspective. Also I have found that if I put an activity on my calendar to deal with I am more likely to actually follow it through to completion. It might work for you & Robin to schedule a monthly time to carry items to the donation center, that way you know it will be done in a timely manner, thus relieving anxiety over it not being done. Just a thought. 🤔 Thank you for all the great motivation, encouragement and inspiration to work in the areas of our homes and lives that we may need a gentle push to get moving in. I can’t wait to see your next video. 😁 Have a blessed week dear friend! ❤❤
Hi Cindy! Thanks for all of the encouragement and great ideas! I appreciate it dear friend! We did get a couple of loads out on Saturday. Plenty more to go!! I need to find a new place for those donations and other things going because my husband noted that I was blocking the exit! He’s right of course! Maybe where the empty boxes go usually! I do notice my husband now wants it all gone too! He even said he wanted to declutter his tools! 🤯 He is realizing he is ready to stop hauling stuff up the stairs and would like to downsize as soon as we can! I always love hearing those 20 min/day projects!! Have a great week!! 💖💖
I have a friend that has a husband that cleans the garage every single week. He straightens things out. Takes the garbage out. Sweeps and mops the concrete floor too. He’s in charge of garage and garden.
Just yesterday I went looking to see if I had missed one of your posted videos and so I am very happy to see you today. My big take away from this video is not how much there is left to do but how much you got done in small chunks of time. Take care.
Thanks for all the basement inspiration, I am doing mine at the moment. I only sweep when it becomes too messy, maybe twice a year and never dust! By the way, your weight loss is really noticeable and you seem to be moving much more easily.
Hopefully we can move within a year? But we have a huge work shop and so much needs to decide what to do with and need help to move ! Also I have to do more declutter in the house which I can do. We live on two areas and we need to move up north to help our daughter who needs our help so much and we need her too! You have done such a great job getting stuff done ❤ You looks so good with losing so much weight!!! You are so sweet❤
Keep the filing cabinet until you get the tools area decluttered as it might be used for storing bolts/screws etc as it’s a large scale tool box basically
He had asked me to stop piling there since I was blocking the exit! Oops! But we did get rid of some stuff yesterday so I assume I can start piling again!! 🙃😉
Do you have a collection of pictures of your basement over time? If you feel like sharing it would be cool to see a sequence. Or ata minimum, you take a look at them to encourage yourself.
great job! Cant wait to see the saterday that all the designated stuff leaves the basement. It will open up so much! And really? is the old monitor going? 😜
Great work! I wonder if it might help to do temporary labels on the boxes that you designated as "go through again" -- and maybe even the date? so that you have a reminder of the action items -- without having to keep it all in your head ;) Cheers!
I need to go thru my clothes because I am losing a little weight and my current pants are getting too big and the next size down seems too tight still.
This might not be an appropriate comment for here, But I think the last video I watched from you was about 6 months ago, and it looks like you've lost weight? Anyways, I have some catching up to do, the basement stuff is great! Edit: Beth's comment down below matched my thoughts exactly!
Why is the camcorder being kept? I would make sure anything previously filmed is Transferred it to current media. And donate the camcorder or sell it on ebay. Ask her cell Am I planning to bring this to my new home? Will it help me in anyways in my new home? If not, its time to go!
Karen, love you girl, but why does the so-called decluttered stuff stay in your basement? You have teens that can haul it to the car and drop it off, too. I'm just a little puzzled as to why you don't get it out and experience the relief of getting the excess out of your way. Not trying to be judgmental, just curious and wanting the best for you and your family.
Filed under “complicated”. Added, the van was broken and Goodwill only has certain days and times they accept donations and sometimes they shut down those days for staffing issues and it’s 40 min away. We got 2 Loads out Saturday… progress! 🙌 Happy Sunday, Sandra! 🌸
Karen, your shelves are wonky because you have 4 long and 4 short poles and you don’t have them on the same level. It should be easy to fix. I loved your video!
Oh course I do!! haha! 🤪 Thanks for sharing!! 😊🙌
Selfishly I’m glad it doesn’t end. I love your declutters!
Thanks, Karen! MUCH more to come!! 💐
Love your basement declutters the most. Great motivation!
Thanks, Cheryl!! I am so glad you find them helpful!! 🌸

I am so thankful you find these videos helpful!
Thank you! 🌺
I love your basement declutters. Cant wait to see all the free space that you will have when you finally get rid of all thaf stuff that you identified as declutter. 🤩
Thanks! I can’t wait!! 😍
Your children will thank you for doing this-as will your future self!
Thank you!! I appreciate that encouragement! 🌺🌺
‘Looking so good!!
…and so is the basement. ha! 😜😘
(Ohh, you’ve always been beautiful, dear lady - I just couldn’t resist the joke. 😁)
Why thank you! I'll take that!! 🤣
Oh boy! Do I need to declutter photos! I do have one or two videos of it but I have way more to go so I will try to get to it soon! 😃🌸
yes, i keep down sizing what i have. because i know if i end up moving for health reasons or landlords health reasons i want as little as possible. Its a scary thought cause what family i have is dwindling. Im praying that i find a place before it comes to that. you are doing awesome. ! 🙏🙏💗💗🤗🤗☕☕
I join your prayer that God will show you the way ahead of time!! 🙏🙏 Thank you for the encouragement, dear friend!! 💝😍🙌
Those were some smart moves to organize the basement. Regardless of how much there is left to do, you're making visible progress each time you work down there.
Thanks so much, Jenny!! 🙌🌹
Hi Karen! Boy, you guys are into a lot of outdoor activities!
Well done
I am so glad to hear your surgery went well! My husband had one of his eyes done and he is so glad he did!! 💐💝
So satisfying! Great persistence!!
Thanks, Leah!! Happy Sunday!! ♥️
You went down stairs. You had a plan. And, you rolled up your sleeves and got it done. LOL Enjoyed the video. Hope you have a great evening. And, a wonderful week. Love you my friend.
Thanks so much, Sherry! 🌹 Love you too! 💝
Hi Karen!
It´s that darn Onion 😄... one you decluttered one layer there´s another one... 😆
Yes for sure!! 🤣
I’m with ya as I am currently decluttering my garage bit by bit. I’m trying to go in there at least once a week or every 2 weeks for 1 hour or so.
Yes I will be catching up and watching! We’re in this together!! 🙌Oy! 🙃
I so agree about the life jackets! Thanks for the encouragement and weighing in on cleaning the basement! Hugs!! ❤️🌹
Oh my, that’s aMAZING!! 😍
It's great that you keep plugging away at a task that must have seemed so overwhelming when you began. Great job!
Thanks so much, Monique! Happy Sunday!! 💐
Yes Karen at least 2x a year I vacuum, dust , mop my basement etc. I do also organize and do mini maintenance In between
Bit by bit. Bite by bite. Basement is looking better and so do you.
Yes! Bit by bit!! Thanks for the encouragement, Valerie!! 🌹🌹
Just wanted to tell you, you look gorgeous.
Well, thank you, sweet friend!! I appreciate that encouragement!! 😍❤️
Love your basement declutters. Also, so nice that you have use for four kayaks.
Thanks, Irene!! Yes! We got those kayaks years ago and they’ve been a big blessing!! ❤️
From my own decluttering of our basement it seems never ending! Keep up the good work!
It IS never ending but it gives me a chance to visit you all! 😃
Yes I agree keep the videos coming. Hope we get some decluttering footage of you and your husband decluttering his shelving areas.
Another great video :)
Just yesterday I went looking to see if I had missed one of your posted videos and so I am very happy to see you today. My big take away from this video is not how much there is left to do but how much you got done in small chunks of time. Take care.
Thanks so much!! I appreciate that!! 😍🌹
Have you done a swedish death cleaning video yet? I would love to see you do one of those with your family. I love your channel so much.
I have talked about it but not a dedicated video! I'll add it to my list, Wendy! 💐
Thanks for all the basement inspiration, I am doing mine at the moment. I only sweep when it becomes too messy, maybe twice a year and never dust! By the way, your weight loss is really noticeable and you seem to be moving much more easily.
Thanks for sharing and for the encouragement!! Yes it feels great and is much easier to move around and do stairs and LIVE! 😍💝
Great progress! Yes, all this progress is a blessing.
Thanks so much! I appreciate the encouragement!! 🌸
I wish I lived closer so we could help you!! Thanks for all of your encouragement! 🌸🌸🌸
@@ThisMainerMom I wish we lived close too!!! You and family are kind people 🦋
Started decluttering...had emergency surgery Wednesday...off for 6 weeks now ...oh well..
Oh no! I’m so sorry!! I am praying for quick healing!! 🙏💖
Keep the filing cabinet until you get the tools area decluttered as it might be used for storing bolts/screws etc as it’s a large scale tool box basically
Great idea! Thanks! 🥰
I didn’t know you hafnium had a pink car? Awesome
It's kind of Fuscia! I loved that car!! 😍
Put that stuff in the declutter pile so when Robin goes to take it out he will see it and likely to let it go.
He had asked me to stop piling there since I was blocking the exit! Oops! But we did get rid of some stuff yesterday so I assume I can start piling again!! 🙃😉
I had an 💡 idea. Why don't you hang fishing poles from ceiling so you don't have to keep moving them.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing! I wish I could hang everything from the ceiling!! 🤣
🥰🥰
💐
Do you have a collection of pictures of your basement over time? If you feel like sharing it would be cool to see a sequence. Or ata minimum, you take a look at them to encourage yourself.
I will try! 😃
Great job!
Thanks, Faith, and thanks for being here with me!! 💗
You are looking really slim.
Thanks so much!! I’ve been working at it for sure! 😍
great job! Cant wait to see the saterday that all the designated stuff leaves the basement. It will open up so much! And really? is the old monitor going? 😜
I think it’s going, I HOPE it’s going!! 😉
Great work!
I wonder if it might help to do temporary labels on the boxes that you designated as "go through again" -- and maybe even the date? so that you have a reminder of the action items -- without having to keep it all in your head ;)
Cheers!
That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing! CHEERS!! 😁🤩
I need to go thru my clothes because I am losing a little weight and my current pants are getting too big and the next size down seems too tight still.
That’s awesome, Louise!! 🙌
its stressful i know. things just mount up . like i said one area one thing at a time .
Yes for sure! 🙌
This might not be an appropriate comment for here, But I think the last video I watched from you was about 6 months ago, and it looks like you've lost weight?
Anyways, I have some catching up to do, the basement stuff is great!
Edit: Beth's comment down below matched my thoughts exactly!
Yes I have lost weight, Megan! I started working at it last April and I have lost 83 pounds so far! Feels great! Thanks for that encouragement! 💝💝
@@ThisMainerMom That's awesome! Congrats- it can be hard, but that's a huge accomplishment. I hope you feel proud! =D
❤👍🏼
💐
😁💖
💝🌸🙌
lighting speeded
Imagine if you still had what you already had decluttered 💪😂.
They are not in the way anymore.
That is SO TRUE!! 🤯
Do you have a garage ?
No! No shed and we don’t use our attic. Every bit of storage for inside and outside is in the basement. 🙃
Why is the camcorder being kept? I would make sure anything previously filmed is Transferred it to current media. And donate the camcorder or sell it on ebay. Ask her cell Am I planning to bring this to my new home? Will it help me in anyways in my new home? If not, its time to go!
Because the *hubbins* isn't ready to let go... 👫
We got 2
Loads out Saturday… progress! 🙌 Happy Sunday, Sandra! 🌸
