Although I grew up in Meriden, I haven't lived there since the early 90s, so this video was both a trip back in time as well as a visit to a city hardly recognizable to my mind's eye. I've been working on a story about how my hometown has changed since I moved away, and your unnarrated video has proven to be a fine reference for me. The city I remember is merely a shell of what it was when I was young but much of its roots are still there. Thank you for doing this and putting it on UA-cam.
Thank you Thomas. I.m still in Ct. My wife would like to move down there.maybe some day. Thanks for your comments and subscribing really appreciated see you soon
At one time Meriden (1950s) was considered the best town in America to be in but when the politics changed to democratic liberalism (1960s) it became one of the worst towns to be in after only ten years.
@@ConcealedCarrier There are a few places like on the east and west sides but the politicians are not fixing the delapitated buildings, no one wants to rent here because the taxes are too high, as a example a aquatic shop moved out (can't seem to keep these or any hobby shop) and then Petco, the only stores that stay are food franchise's, the sidewalks are a mess, depending where someone is like the east main street bridge there is trash everywhere at the lower end near the highway, drug addicts walk the street...Meriden in the 1950s was considered the finest town in America but later due to politics it became one of the worst places in America and even today it gets terrible ratings. The trolley which went between Meriden and Middletown was dismantled in the 1960s and could of been a boast for income but not any more.
@@jagdtiger9287 I used to live near the hospital (the old onel). When I went back a few years ago to take care of my mom's estate my wife compared my neighborhood to the bad parts of Cleveland or Detroit that make the news for all the wrong reasons. Totally get where you're coming from on the taxes. Are you still there by chance?
The big house shown at the very end of this video on the right hand side of the street is the Solomon Goffe House. It was built in 1711, and is the oldest remaining building in the city of Meriden.

I did not like this video. You could have narrated it and told us about Mericen. History, events, population points of interest and even street names. Terrible plus your car rattles in my speakers

@@jagdtiger9287 there are some nice parts to be sure (same for any town). I just didn't grow up in or near any of them. 🙄
