Steve is literally the MOST underrated Guitarist ever. It blows my mind that when i talk about him people got no idea who im talking about but nobody my age listens to billy n steve like i do. I do not know why this is real music. It is a dream of mine to play this song just like Steve does
Steve Stevens is one of my favourite guitar players, along Steve Lukather and Eddie Van Halen, because he has that rare ability to write and arrange guitar parts that drive the tune and are as memorable, if not more, as the tune itself!
How tight is that playing! What a superb musician Steve is. Totally in control, massive sound and tone. Truly world class. Seen Steve twice with Billy and he just kicks arse, amazingly clear sound, not a wall of mush like alot of rock shows. Brilliant player!
What got me hooked on Steve Stevens guitar work was specifically "Eyes Without A Face"...At the moment he breaks in to that track at around the halfway mark.
I've been a huge Steve Stevens fan ever since I first heard him. Last weekend my band was playing a festival...2500-3000 people. The second last song of our show we did a cover of Rebel Yell. I love playing that song, the intro riff, the solo....all of it. I suffered a heart attack right on the stage while playing that song. Got rushed to the hospital and made it. Love ya Steve!
You must realize this of course I hope, but it is always worth mentioning that you and your partner in crime (Billy) created music that was an integral part of the soundtrack of my youth along with many others among my peers. And still generates enthusiasm today. Thanks for posting.
So Flo? I lived in Lauderdale to the Keys about 8 years restoring an old Sportfisher. Was thinking, this am, the same thing. I always said Billy picked up the torch Elvis laid down, and God bless S.S. for keeping it burning! haha... At 52, and a longtime guitarist and songwriter, not sure where I would have ended up without Chris Isaak, Setzer/Cats, and the myriad of insanely diverse and profound music that was offered to us. Hopefully this shutdown will thin the herd down dramatically, and only the best will surface... Marc
Yeah, it was a 73 Post Sportfisher. Cedar Carvel planks over White Oak frames. Moved back to Mid Alabama, and preparing to reconnect with Nashville. Lived up there for about 11 years- meeting as many and learning as much pos. Left fairly bitter, but the So FL sunshine brought me back- wrote some of my best stuff down there... Take care and keep in touch. Marc
A lot of the guitarists I grew up with very seldom got the recognition they deserved, you only heard about a handful of them because of the over the top personas, while so many more were just as amazing if not more amazing.
I just love this song, was a teenager when it came out, was hard time for me, but music was my saviour, as i grow older, i now appreciate it even more. Thank you Steve
I play this in my cover band....it is one of my favorite songs to play. I studied every second of Steve's amazing performance of this....still gives me chills to play it and man it's hard to match the absolute fire, intensity and precision that Steve laid out.
Is this THE Steve Stevens' channel? When I was a teenager 15 years ago, this or covers of this were one of our most played songs. This song just has it. I still hear it around. Such a good guitar sound. So cool to hear exactly what happens in the song.
I like how the Synth Guitar part in the middle bridge seems to reference Europop like the Nena song ‘Nur Geträumt’ - a tune with a very similar drum beat, it’s hard not to compare the two.
Damn I didn't know my man Steve Stevens has a UA-cam channel?! I bought me a blue sparkle burst SSC Knaggs guitar a while back because I love Steve Stevens, turns out I love the guitar too! I wanted the red sparkle but couldn't find it so I got the blue. Everyone fanboys over the ray gun on the headstock!
Thanks for posting. There are some nuances in the guitar parts that are hard to pick up on in the album version. This is very helpful for learning to play the song.
I had to look at his channel and seeing him perform solos as recently as last year... The man is a machine ageless has taken care of himself and is just a huge Talent
This is brilliant, thanks for this Steve! I’d love to hear the Soul on ice track! And any others from Atomic Playboys or Exposed (which I’m sure you don’t have?)
Hi everyone. This brings back memories to me. Has anyone ever experienced this: ...???? _ You and your jamming buddies are ready to have fun and create a new masterpiece and you DO create something originally flawless but you can never recreate it again to where it has even a glimpse of the same majic..... - Three of us, in 1997 or so, had an Casio Keyboard with Drum patterns so I did Lead, guy did Keys and other did Bass. - We put an old Panasonic Tape Recorder in the middle of us and on top of a stool. - We made one of the very best instrumental songs of all time. - It was captured on a new Memorex Cassette tape. - Between us, we listened to it a hundred times. - It had so much feeling. - We tried a bit to recreate it but we quickly realized it was a waste of our time. - There's nothing like the first time. - All the minor imperfections in a song is the very thing that gives a song its unique flavor. - Thanks for uploading this. - JMc.
@@Shredwizard445 Indeed an early 70's Marshall Super Lead. Guitar was a Kramer Pacer....nothing fancy. There are only 2 rhythm guitars, one left-one right
Steve, curious about the solo “phase gun shots” or whatever you would call them. Are these extreme pick clicks or are you using your toggle switch for this effect?
I'm actually scared to make a comment- for fear S.S. might actually be the one sitting there (under an original Patrick Nagel that no one has ever even seen), reading the comments! God himself knows I'd need the Holy Trinity to give me strength if he actually replied! Haha... Would be like the time I got to talk shop- one on one w Leon Russell, in Franklin, TN. Talk about a very cool and genuine man... R.I.P. brother.... Marc
There is a video of him showing how it's done, but basically you are playing 2 parts with your picking hand - plucking the high strings to get the staccato rhythm part while at the same time picking with a pick with your thumb/index finger to play the riff. It's tricky and takes some practice, I can barely do it and not as smooth as Steve.
he uses a ray gun toy he bought for a few dollars, places it next to the guitar pickup - hence the pic in this video. If you are talking about 3:06, my guess is that he is using either one of those early Roland guitar synth, or the guitar Synth made by Casio in the early 80s
Steve is literally the MOST underrated Guitarist ever. It blows my mind that when i talk about him people got no idea who im talking about but nobody my age listens to billy n steve like i do. I do not know why this is real music. It is a dream of mine to play this song just like Steve does
Genius guitar arrangement performed and recorded impeccably. Please God bring guitars back to the mainstream 🙏
Check out betamax 82 on youtube
Please God, no
They'll be destroyed by the mainstream
I can’t believe this is the first time I’m hearing this. All hail.
Truly underrated ... Really loved his work on Vince Neil's solo project and stuff MJ.
Yes..!! First solo album from Vince was outstanding..!!!!
Sounds so simple when it's isolated. Save for the solo that is.
That's what hooking riffs usually sound like, otherwise they wouldn't get the hooking effect. It's a craft and talent in itself to write such.
That feel is what makes though, that is the tough part. And the mix, holy crap !!!!
His guitar is what made the song so great. Billy is wonderful but, Steve put the icing on the cake.
Steve Stevens is one of my favourite guitar players, along Steve Lukather and Eddie Van Halen, because he has that rare ability to write and arrange guitar parts that drive the tune and are as memorable, if not more, as the tune itself!
Stevens and Lukather, the underrated Steves (along with all the other Steves who are so underrated they don't even make the list of underrated Steves)
Underrated and overlooked.
The guy can play any genre.
I keep hearing “one way, or another” lol. Love these isolated tracks, you really get to hear the tone and technique. ❤
that is one tight sounding tone, crisp no flap in the notes
How tight is that playing! What a superb musician Steve is. Totally in control, massive sound and tone. Truly world class. Seen Steve twice with Billy and he just kicks arse, amazingly clear sound, not a wall of mush like alot of rock shows. Brilliant player!

Agreed. It was a simple part, but he played it with exceptional feel and style. It made it unique.

Almost killed ya, huh?
(Aortic dissection last October 🤘)
Never noticed the rhythm was double tracked until now, and never picked out that third guitar in the chorus either. Love this so much.
One of the best Rock Guitar Part ever for me.....and Steve Stevens, what a player, what a tone......
never have I seen 1.1K likes and no dislikes.. But, I have also never ran into a fellow guitar player that didn't like SS.
When you add a toy lazer gun section in the middle of a badass guitar solo, you will always be the definition of cool.
Steven has always been a monstrous guitarist.!!!
steve is so underrated and still has so much passion for the community and his art.
Simply Thank You! 🤘😔🎸 You Rock! OUTFUCKINGSTANDING! The works! 🤘😔🎸
One of the most instantly recognizable riffs ever!

I'm not even a guitar player but this is great. Thanks for sharing.
Steve Stevens is full of present, thank you so much.
I easily play like this when I’m on stage every single night. Then I wake up from the dream...
It's really not as you think dude. With a bit of practice its very possible. There's certainly alot harder guitar work than this.

Absolutely amazing sound, tone, clarity, etc. I love this!!!
It truly rocks, it's such a well executed polished track!
So very cool to hear this separate from the main mix.. WOW!!
Musical. Clean. Controlled.
Absolutely amazing.
my favorite of all this type of guitar playing.....most creative and had a very clean tone......great player and sondgwriter
Thank you for these. What great learning tools they are!
Just when i thought the solo couldn't be more badass, you come out with this! Thanks for sharing
I have a new appreciation for that song !!! Badassness !!
Steve, thanks for sharing, really enjoy listening to this! Would love to hear more!

My favorite guitarist of the '80s.
Rock power! Yeah!

Steady right hand !!
Great sounding Marshall
The tone on the palm muting section is one of many reasons why Marshall rules.
Genio Steve!!!

I would LOOOOOOOVE if you did something like this for the Vince Neil Record. The work on that album is RIDICULOUS

This is awesome. Great tone. The early 70s super lead? Wonder if the rhythm guitar is his les paul conversion.
I'm thinking the super lead too, lots of grainy distortion without too much gain. I'm thinking the tone is from such a thick stack of rhythm takes.

Is it possible to have ten more of these tracks? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
Easy. Just hit the "Refresh" button ten times.

The chorus reminds me of Tom Morello's playing. Wouldn't be surprised if Steve was an inspiration.

Can you do this for flesh for fantasy?

How does he make it sound like synthesiser at 3:20

He didn't use the toy in the studio recording

How did you do the synth part on guitar? I always wondered if it was synth or guitar.
There is a video of him showing how it's done, but basically you are playing 2 parts with your picking hand - plucking the high strings to get the staccato rhythm part while at the same time picking with a pick with your thumb/index finger to play the riff. Yeah I could never pull it off like Steve Stevens so I had my bass player do the root and I did the other part.
@@RobinDale50 We're talking about the part @ 3:06 right? Cause it sounds like a square wave on an analog synth and I only hear one part.

That's one of those old Roland Synthesizer guitars. A GR-700 or GR-707.
