I remember this show!!! Friday nights on ABC, after Benson and Bosom Buddies. Lol The theme intro creeped the hell outta me.The episodes I remember most is the black cat, the one with the army toy figures coming to life and the one with Billy Crystal as the washed up entertainer. I gotta stream this!!
OMG-I remember this show! My mom used to work the three to eleven shift at the hospital and my dad or grandparents would watch me on Friday nights. I used to stay up late and watch this. Those were the days. I wish the episodes were on UA-cam. 😵💫
I watched it also! I always asked people if they remembered it and nobody ever did (probably because no one watched it!) I'm thrilled that somebody was able to post some clips of it! I looked for stuff online about 10 years ago but gave up because I couldn't find anything. I was starting to wonder if I imagined the whole show LOL
Never missed this show during it's all-too-brief run. I suspect it was TOO scary for TV and that ABC received tens of thousands of letters from angry parents with traumatized children, leading to the show's untimely cancellation. Wish some company would pick up the rights and release a 2-disc DVD set of all the episodes. They're too good not to share! The one with Helen Hunt as a girl convinced that her new love interest is a vampire remains one of my faves.
I have such a faded distant memory of this show! I was 6 years old when this was on, and I still remember that title image with the light bulb swinging around. Awesome! Too bad it was on for only one season. This would be an obscure set to get on DVD.
@horizon Let's see...I said I was 6, for a show that started in 1981. So yeah, that puts me right in the middle of the GenX range. I had no interest in those other shows you mentioned. I like this one, Tales From The Crypt, Tales From The Darkside, and Twilight Zone. But I never found any of them actually scary.
The series was actually released on DVD in Australia several years back, but it's out of print now and commands high prices when you can find a copy. Luckily, NBC.com has been streaming the entire series online lately for free. Go check it out before they decide to take it down.
Saw it and liked it. Though the intro was creepy I remember (writing down so not to forget). I know I saw at least 3 three episodes including the last episode. It was rebroadcast in the 90’s with a commentary. Very memorable series. The Vietnam episode was a complete stand out for me.
Years ago the SciFi channel aired all the episodes with interviews from the creators between shows. Naturally, I recorded the entire thing on video (of which became lost...mrrr) Why it did not do better or why ABC cancelled it is beyond me. This deserves a reboot of some kind.
The series has been released on DVD, but only in Australia. Happily, as of October 2019 the show has been available for streaming FOR FREE at NBC.com (and on the various platforms that carry the NBC app). Don't know how long it will remain available, but it's nice that Universal has dusted it off for the time being.
I remember this show it came on when I was in the 1st grade this was the show that would led to me becoming a lifelong horror fan, I remember a young Helen hunt in a episode were a guy says I'm not a vampire then he turns into a werewolf
I was 8 in 1981 and remembered the show. The ones I watched were the Billy Crystal one with the makeup case and the Guillotine episode. That was around the same time the 49ers won their first super bowl with Joe Montana.
Oh yeah, I remember the black cat episode. As boys, my friend and I loved telling creepy ghost stories when we had the chance and one time I told the story of that episode. Yup, he watched the series too and mocked me for copying it, lol! Good times.
Liked the episode where this woman thought this old acquaintance was a vampire. She later found out he was a werewolf on one dark night of the full moon. Then he revealed to her he was a werewolf. By then it was too late she couldn't escape him, because she was locked inside of a boathouse with him. Anyone remember that episode?
That one is "The Bogeyman Will Get You" by Robert Bloch (of PSYCHO fame). Decades earlier, Bloch adapted the same story for his syndicated radio series STAY TUNED FOR TERROR.
Yes I remember seeing this episode when I was 6 years old my sister was about 13 and was watching it with me and she put her hand over my eyes when that scene came up so I wouldn't get scared, LoL the episode had Helen hunt from twister when she was like 17 or 18
I've never tried doing that. I suppose it could be possible. Until relatively recently, the show was available for free on NBC.com, and later Peacock. So if you could use Wayback to access the NBC.com page, it might work. But since Universal has pulled the video down, you might simply get a broken link. It's certainly worth a try.

I loved this show! Favorite episode was the army toys coming to life.
That was a Stephen King story first.
This show was awesome. Seeing that blood red light bulb was chilling.
Ho....ly.....shit!!!! The cat lady. And the toy soldiers. I've remembered them for so long and never knew the name of the show. Thank you so much.
Nice find!
I’m never even heard of this show before today.

Media Collectibles is the site to visit for that.
Yes!!
I remember watching this with my grand parents when it fist aired, I was scared shitless.
The intro of the guy talking at the beginning of each episode used to destroy me as a kid man

This was a good series. Smart and creepy.
People I recognized: Rue McClanahan, Helen Hunt, Billy Crystal.
People I thought I recognized: Ronny Cox, John Carradine.
