    Astonishing how Ram has Risen out of the ashes to be the Greatest pickup Trucks Ever made in History. It's basically a serious Semi truck without looking like a Semi truck.

    Be safe! I'm sure you are and your equipment will handle all that. A good (or just a stickler) DOT officer will ticket you for being overweight. That gooseneck ball is only rated @ 30k. I have essentially the same setup as you, but my trailer only weigh 6300 lbs, I haul for CAT and I won't go bigger than a CP44. My fear is getting into an accident and a good attorney sees that ball rating, then sees th GCVWR of the truck is exceeded and I'm toast. Even if I'm not the one at fault.

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  3 роки тому +4

      I can definitely understand where you’re coming yes technically I’m over by about 2-3k on my ball however from my experience and knowledge officers can mainly fault you if you’re over axle weights and or tires, things in contact with the roadways, any ball system will most likely fail in a collision that and or the neck of the trailer. On average a 40mph wreck will create over 200k lbs of force on any one object something is going to and will fail regardless. I’ve seen at my old job a tractor trailer and an empty lowboy sheet off the 5th wheel of the truck when it got rear ended by another tractor. There’s a lot involved for sure. However 3” ball is in the works to have a true 40k rating on the trailer.
      Appreciate you. Thanks for the comment

    Good to hear you talk about load placement. I’ve seen way too many idiots put their loads far forward or even up against the tongue. That’s what you call inexperience. When I haul stuff like this, I get people honking at me and giving me a thumbs up. Kinda funny, but cool.

    If you need to protect metal portions of the deck I would recommend getting a horse stall mat and cutting it down. I put those down and they work pretty well. When I haul the D5 I use tires to load obviously but the flat mats work great for everything else

    Not being a jerk, just a heads up. Some dot don't like the binder on the outside of the rub rail. They like it inside the rail and hooked to the pocket. If you get a real prick he may try and screw with you. I've had my share of pricks. I have over a million miles hauling oversized loads in a big truck with a low profile step deck.

    Towing is dangerous if you don't know how, most people destroy trucks and the blame it on the manufactures not knowing how to work the truck. You know your truck limitations, on mine I feel everything trans/diff/engine limits. I seen people towing on the last freeway lane going 75 loaded crazy people.

    Just a tip, I mean no disrespect but when you chain to the trailer, you’re supposed to wrap the chain around the cylinder and back on itself.

    Awesome video man I too am an operator and I'm not trying to be "that guy " just curious ...around here ( Rhode Island ) when I got my class a cdl we were all taught that if you hook any binders or chains to the outside of the rub rails they will consider it an unsecured load and also over width .just a heads up

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  3 роки тому

      Naa you’re good man. I’ve head stuff like that and I’ve never seen or heard of a dot officer fine someone on that. I’ve spoken to officers around here told me if anyone does get you in that to give them his phone number.
      Think about it also you can tow a full size truck and the mirrors stick out farther then the trailer but it’s not a wide load by any means . Biggest thing on chains and binders, if there is a binder handle sticking far past the deck of the trailer or a chain swinging from the deck that can cause a hazard.

    • @rirebel6029
      @rirebel6029 3 роки тому +1

      Thats good .I know around here something like the mirrors on a truck sticking out they would get you for same with snow pushers that are over width you got to haul it the long way on a trailer .same goes for plows on trucks bit like you said it all depends on the officer you get too

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  2 роки тому

      I have on average 15-20% weight in my rear axle sometimes you just break loose. These trucks just have so much first gear torque. And the drag of the load just amplifies it. Sometimes could be dirt on the ground or oil who knows but it’s happened a hand full of times out of no where then won’t happen again. Just things you want to be careful of, you can definitely nap axles or a pinion that way

  • @KarasCyborg
    @KarasCyborg 3 роки тому +1

    @4:25. Why not wrap the chain from the machine around one of those rollers between stake pockets and then use the binder to sinch the chain after it emerges from the upside of the roller to the chain coming down from the machine so that you won't risk bending that thin metal bar or the hook bounces out down a bouncy county maintained road.

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  3 роки тому +1

      Great question, that rub rail is much thicker than you think, and using the roller to tie back up the machine actually binds up the binder making it contact with the chain making it twist and hard to tighten down to the machine there’s not enough separation between to the two make it easy and not become a pain in tying down equipment

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  3 роки тому

      Upping from the 3500 to the 4500 main changes are wide track front axle, larger rear end and larger breaks on the truck, also getting the option to have lower gear ratio. Back half of the frame is heavier for cargo use and heavier suspension all around on the truck. However the one down fall is a derated motor you can’t get the 4500-5500 in the HO configuration

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  2 роки тому +1

      There is no problem the way I hauled this machine. There’s little to no play at all on the tail of this trailer. No need to cross the chain when you’ve already achieved 45 degree of angle when chaining down (which is optimum) no clue what you’re taking about for the lock bar, dot can’t ticket you due to “how you chained” with in limitations of course, 1 being you have over 50% of towing weight chained down, you have chains tied in or tied out in pairs (min) all other chains or straps for cautionary and or to support up to your 50% of weight.
      If you’re taking about the “lock bar” for the tail of my trailer, there is no such thing. It’s a camover system that locks itself the tail with hydros has to cycle to “unlock” the tail.
      If that’s what you’re talking about.

      Thank you, personally I would go with a 3500, I’m not sure the amount of weight you want to be hauling everyday. Being in the hwy with 4:88 gears you’ll be at 2300 rpm or so doing 70mph with the 3500 4:10 gears you’ll be at 2k rpm
      Little bit more comfortable ride also, plus you can get the HO since 4500-5500 are SO trucks
      5500 is a much heavier duty truck however it can limit you in ride quality. 3500 is a solid all’s round hauler and having that 1000 ft lbs does make a huge difference

    I have an 11 single cab dually, when I'm towing about 25k the wheels will skid under hard breaking, very sketchy. I've always wondered if a crew cab being heavier would help prevent locking wheels up.

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  2 роки тому

      That’s pretty odd to have that happen. Maybe mess around with your weight distribution on the trailer.
      And also yes having a heavier truck always helps out too.

    Nothing like a ram. Why don't you use a 5500 ram?

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  2 роки тому

      I wanted the 3500 since it ad the HO motor option and I also use my dually for longer trips at times more comfortable ride plus the truck itself is lighter allowing it to tow more weight. 4500-5500 are great trucks if you need the truck for payload capacity and or if you want lower gearing since you can get 4:56-4:88 if I remember correctly. My truck is a 4:10, honestly making it awesome for hauling heavy and on hwy I sit at 2k rpm going 70 mph vs doing 70 at 2300-2500 rpm like a 5500 would do

    You shouldn't put your binder hook on the outside of the rub rail, you should put it down between the rub rail and trailer deck.

    • @IManOPERATOR
      @IManOPERATOR  3 роки тому +2

      1/2-3/8 hooks don’t fit between a rub rail. That’s an old outdated law/myth that I never understand the reason behind it. Rub rail is the most secure restraint for all loads however you attach or use it.

      Couldn’t tell you yes or no. I’m not a Chevy person. Biggest thing for me the cummins has the best exhaust brake system. Hold weight back extremely well. I don’t see why not for a Chevy I’m sure it has the power for it and capability for it. Just stay safe out there don’t haul past your comfort zone
