You could use teflon pipe dope on your joints because your pipe is only going to get as hot as your water. If you are really nervous about this , use nickel based anti seize compound for your thread compound !!

The melting point of Teflon tape is 327C (620F) but you will get property changes at 260C (500F) so it is safe to use to seal in this case as you have it water cooled so it will stay around 100C (212F) for the most part. The holes for the pipes are easy to seal using fiberglass rope normaly used to seal wood stove doors.
Trying stacking the wood in a tall pile inside the barrel and put kindling and paper on top and light it from the top so that the fire burns downwards...need really dry wood...the technique should reduce smoke pollution. Great work.
Does the pipe not have to be always sloping up so the hot water rises and so you do not need a pump? Or do you use a pump to move the water thru the pipes.

An amazing job I would think though that you could do all the the sections of one side and doing the right way and tighten them up exactly the way you want it and then push them through and then use some sort of extend them further out using copper maybe I don't know I can't imagine it getting that hot at this water inside this water inside it can only get 2 to 12 or 2:50 if its 15 psi anyhow it's a great project I'm a mime from unimpressed seems to me if you could use it to heat up a water source in your basement and then is run it and then use that water in the basement 2 to heat your house after the fires over

A barrel stove kit can be found at most home improvement stores for about $50 I got mine at Menards. I got the barrel on craigslist for $10. I used 1/2 in. I should have gone 3/4. Pipe is galvanized steel. I looked up the pressure rating and it was plenty high so I don't worry about it bursting the pipe. I do not know the rate flow. I just make sure water is flowing BEFORE I start a fire. The intensity of the fire and flow rate of water determine the temperature. Very unpredictable. But I pump it into a tank on a platform 15 ft up and let it gravity feed into the shower and its about 115. a perfect hot shower.
Living Lightly copper pipe would corrode in the flame, do you know the wall thickness of the mild steel galvanised pipe ? Also, why is 3/4 inch better ? Is 1/2 inch producing too much unpredictable steam. Heat loss with 3/4 is lower ? Thank you sir.
If you turned it upside down, and burned the wood directly on top of the pipe heat exchanger, with some ash to protect the pipes from corrosion, or used stainless steel then heating by direct embers contact conduction may improve efficiency further ? Agree ?

A coil of flexible copper tubing inside would have been better, no holes except inlet/outlet.
Boilers heated by fire or gas burners are often made of mild steel, ever wondered why they don’t use copper near a hot flame ?
