I go the cheap route. Blade in a bench vice and a 60 to 80 grit flap sanding wheel on my grinder. Mark the blade - your shiny area- with a red sharpie along the entire length. Proceed to make a few passes on the blade. Removal of the sharpie color will tell you that you're orienting the grinder/flap wheel correctly. Great success with this approach and no huge expense. Of course I'm just a homeowner and only sharpen two or three of my blades a year. If you're a commercial operator this machine might be worth the money. Thanks for posting
We been using a RBG 2181 for 7 years and it is a great machine also , these make a big difference in the quality of your blade sharpening. Great video.
I'll admit I thought I was going to regret buying it, sure enough, though about 12 blades PERFECTLY sharpened in under 30 minutes!!!!! Literally, the fastest I've ever sharpened blades before on mowers that are ready for the Saturday route. Definitely going to increase cut quality by a longshot, my own lawn has never looked so level and clean before. Definitely a good investment!!!!!
This thing does a great job and really is my first choice for blade sharpeners. I just looked the RGb712 up on Google and the cheapest one I can find is $450 plus tax and shipping from the RGb website. Amazon has it for $473 +tax and Free Shipping. The manufacturer's website is kind of primitive looking. A new grinding wheel is $50 and I wonder if RGB is the only place you can get it?? They want $50-$75 for the "Grit Collector" (which some sheet metal bent into a box shape to catch the metal shavings). I'm also looking at the Oregon blade sharpener....
Just bought this grinder in October 2022. It’s an understatement to say I’m disappointed to see this grinder is proudly made in….Mexico now. It’s a shame they slap that “Made in USA” sticker onto the product but can’t lie with new, cheaper Mexican motor they quietly replacing with now. The paint job on my unit is horrible (paint chips/excess everywhere). The $80 grit catcher is the same with huge gaps on the back sides. With this Mexican quality, I say just go with the Vevor knock-off and save yourself half the cost!
I follow Brian at top notch also, watched his videos and took his advice. Bought the RBG 712 and love it. So far run about 50 blades on it. At $60.00 a set we save a lot of money. We use four Ferris mowers a 48" and 3- 61" to cut cemeterys a park, 6 acre fire station and 9 acres at our shop. Thank for the video.
holy shit $400 bucks dude !!!!!!! i just built a wood platform under my bench grinder put shims under the back of were the blade rides to get the angle took about an hour and 5 bucks in wood lol
I have the same tool they are great . I have also noticed I am buying less blades because I keep the blade straight and sharper and I also have the magnetic balancer which is a lot better than those cheap ass balancing tools .
It’s a shame you listened to Brian, first you got took, that RGB is about 400-500. You should have bought an All American and used that angle grinder you already had, for 220 bucks you would have had a superior sharpener, that would do more than just flat blades. It for sure Boys and Girls, not the real deal, lolol. Anyway sell that hunk of just that is just a plain Jane bench grinder you could have made jig like the RGB and done same thing. Oh and its not and RPG. That a rocket propelled grenade launcher, you have an RGB. Anyway sell that hunk of junk RGB get the All American 5005, and do some real sharpening. All American, has multiple angle selection, due to many blades have an twist in the blade that increases the angle so you can still sharpen to 30 degrees. All American does mulching blades as well. Even the most expensive RGB, flat blades only. Plus RGB, heats the blades to fuck and takes the tempering out of the blade and they dull faster. All American keeps the blade cool and far better. Plain truth you got had my man.
@@rebfan9200 well glad you asked, so the down and dirty of it it, any idiot can see the RGB its a fucking bench grinder with a jig, you can by a decent bench grinder cheap, especially the cheap one that RGB has, its a fucking Chinese hunk of junk, seriously its not even to be considered a bench grinder, then you have the jig, well fuck if you cannot invent a jig for a bench grinder then you dont really need to be sharpening lawn mower blades. What really scares me the most is how hick boy balances his blades, my bet he uses a nail in a wall, or worse a table top plastic amazon balancer. In any event you do not use an RGB or the other version cannot remember the name of it, or even a bench grinder period for sharpening a lawn mower blade at all. Stones equal heat, and speed equal heat, anytime I hear guys saying they have not got 5 min to sharpen a lawn mower blade and need a 30 second sharpen, it spells trouble and blades that will be dangerous and or simply ruined having the temper taken out of them. The best system I have seen and the one I use, is the ALL American 5005, simply takes no more time to use than that RGB once you get the setup going, best of all no heat using a flapper wheel and the blade is just as sharp, maybe a few minutes longer. The real job is the time spent on making sure the blade is cleaned throughly so dirt and debri does not through out your balance. Lastly you need to spend more money on a good balancer than the actual sharpener. Truth is simply if that blade is not as sharp, but the balance it good, it will save your mower. A nail will not, I repeat not, not even a little bit, not even if you think you have it positioned perfectly, will it ever balanced a lawn mower blade. Then those cone balancers, then will balance a simple circle hole blade somewhat, but if you get anything other than a circle hole blade, and the centre is some pattern then those cone balancers will not work at all, and lastly those cone balancers balance all wrong, you cannot balance like they do and do it well or right. A lawn mower blade is like the wheel of a car and must be balanced the same, its must be balanced using circular motion rather than see-saw, you get totally different results. If you are not prepared to pay for a good balancer, then do not sharpen your own blades at all. Magnamatic is the only balancer out there that is accurate, there is a knock off done by another company for about 100 bucks cheaper and no thanks its garbage, the bearings in it are not sensitive enough, and most of the time it comes damaged as they use poor packaging. I have heard many a horror stories of the knock offs, and for a simply 100 bucks more for something you will use often, it really is a no brainer. The All American 5005, does all the blades you can think of, it is versatile and portable, I run a professional mobile sharpening company, and I have to offer my customers the best service and accurate. I go to their homes and sharpen on site, giving sharp results and accurate balancing, they trust their mowers will not have the decks ripped apart in a season, or worse the mowers spindle leaking oil and a engine burning up. The reason the Magnamatic was invented over 50 years ago was the inventor of it was hearing from bringgs and Stratton that they were having overwhelming warranty issues in the first year of gas mowers really becoming a thing. They could not understand why, well the inverter did, he realized guys were sharpening blades and.not balancing, that was the beginning of the Magnamatic 1000, and when Briggs and Stratton she it, they adopted it as the only way to sharpen blades and not void warranty, after that it was used in all shops that did engine repairs and blade sharpening. I see so many youtubers trying to say how much money they spent on a fucking sharpener and not even talking about the importance of balancing. The truth you ask for, well the truth is a fucking file and vice is better than that RGB, will get your blade as sharp and more accurate, and. Not ruin the temper, and spend that RGB money on a Magnamatic 1000 and then you will be dining good. So does that work for how I really feel.

How long do the wheels last bro??

Raymond J for those who are encouraged to do that its worth it. I don’t have time to perfect something like that.... let’s see a video of it!!
how often do you have to replace the grinding wheel?
Bob Keeler I get a full season out of one side then flip over and get another
Don't know about idiot proof, I know guy's that can bend a crow bar in a sand box.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!
John Reichert
😂
I have the same tool they are great . I have also noticed I am buying less blades because I keep the blade straight and sharper and I also have the magnetic balancer which is a lot better than those cheap ass balancing tools .
John Bailey there is no excuse not to have sharp blades with the rbg....
Magnetic blade balancer?? Do tell...I've never heard of it.
