I follow a lot bikers here on YT, but I have never, never seen someone like you, with such impressive films. It is nearly unbelievable what you have seen and in some parts of your videos I look on my screen open mouthed. Hope your trips will never find an end! Thanks very much! Actually needless to mention: You are not only a tough and brave biker you are also a great photographer and videolfilmer too!
Hi Martijin, you posted this on my 55th birthday, I watched parts 1-2, but this one is really kicking my butt and screaming, get the bike, get the bike, get the bike and go. I am still fit enough and have little holding me back. It's far too easy to see all the reasons not to start a journey and often very hard to pedal that first mile. There is something about your presentation that inspires in a very humble but reachable way. Today I found the bike and will pick it up soon, The gear is ready, I simply need to brush up on the tech, decide the route and go, just go. No more wait and see, no what ifs, no, there is always tomorrow. Thank you and please keep posting....John
John, the tech is optional. Few adventurists actually make videos, most content with photos on the phone these days. I’ve done a bit of touring in the US and just go. It doesn’t need to be months at a time. A week or two and it’s time to get home to do something. Then a bit later go on another section. The Pacific Coast is great. Go in fall after school starts and the RV pressure is less. Go southbound so the ocean is on the right side. Do the Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal. Do the Katy In Missouri. If you still want more go across, always west to east. The winds you see prevail from the west.
I am still a young person and am about to graduate high school in the US and I dream of becoming an artist and therapist. I just want to thank you for one, giving me something to watch while running on the treadmill during the cold winter days, two, opening my eyes to the beauty of so many other parts of the world and people, and three igniting an inspiration within me to explore the world and make that a priority in my life. Thank you for all of the beautiful work you're putting into these documentaries. They have brought me such profound joy. Sending love and hope to anyone reading this.
Kind of same but im from a different country. I want to work an it job but i want to travel a lot. Like a lot. Seeing this was so inspiring because theres soooo much stuff out there. So much unique and breathtaking stuff just waiting to be explored. I feel so stuck and restricted in my current Position in life but surely soon enough ill travel. And ill travel a lot. Much love and i hope you're gettjng closer to your goal too ❤❤
Wonderful. I’m glad you share the bad with the good. I’ve only had food poisoning at home from bad oysters. I’m watching you backwards but stuck in bed and thank you . I am 80 so you give me another life. Will buy your books ❤️
every time I have an existential moment when I'm touring- either it's boring or I'm missing home or I want a proper kitchen, I watch these videos, and you always manage to bring the spark back
I remind myself, Martjin could have simply chosen to stay at his desk job. Thanks for sharing this inspirational journey. Coming from a position of working 17 years in a city at a desk, it's given me a lot to think about.
Your bike trip videos are such a wonder to watch ✨ I became physically disabled a few years ago and I feel deeply grateful to you for showing the world to people like myself. I travel vicariously through your incredible storytelling, videography and travels on the bike 🚲 Thank you, Martijn!
I know that you are trying to keep your temporarily paused mountain journey relevant in our minds, while you are forced to wait for the snowy season to end - for we all surely want to rejoin you in that adventure. We are waiting with anticipation and understand. Posting these videos of your other adventure is brilliant. I also think that they are most enjoyable. I know it takes you a lot of time to prepare these - but they are so worth it. Good job!! You actually, could have dragged these out over a longer period of time - you are an excellent video editor and storyteller - most enjoyable!! Thank you - and keep going! We see you!! 🥸
The thing i respect the most is when you are exhausted, on an empty stomach, it is raining, you are drenched in sweat while trying to find a path in this wild and difficult terrain but yet you set up your tripod to film a scene 👏🏻
I have watched all of Martijn's videos two times, this is the third, I also watched videos by other people about Martijn. All the videos are very well done, I like the calmness of Martijn's charakter. Since I started watching I have started also thinking about my own projects again. Thank you....
Such honest narrative, people tend to romanticize these adventures. They happen with the Ying and the yang, though. Great stuff-i have to check out the book.
The fact that you've taken this journey, massive distance, massive changes in elevation....its unreal! Add to that, the video work including the amazing aerial work! My goodness man you've done SOLO what entire teams try (and often fail) to do. You have done an astonishing job capturing your journey WHILE living your journey! My deepest respect to you Sir!!!
Martijn, you are my new hero. Since stumbling upon your channel just a couple of weeks ago, I have been gobbling up your content. I was thrilled to see that you released your 3rd chapter this evening and - as expected - it did not disappoint. Good luck with your new home and thank you for the recommendation of MapOut. I downloaded the app before I finished watching this episode. Safe rides.
Amazing how you can give this feeling of presence in the place without leaving home, even the feeling of your challenge comes through! All your movies are just Fantastic! The best thing that I don’t have much time to watch something but every time I have this time I choose your channel! 🙏💗
Hello from Canada! Was so memorized by your story telling, photos and video. I could listen for hours. You're so brave doing that all by yourself AND doing all the great photos and video. Incredible.
The vistas you captured with drone were spectacular . You are a man that has overcome incredible obstacles it shows a lot of fortitude . Thank you for the beautiful video , I really enjoyed it .
Wow this is mesmerizing! Just watched your stories and could listen to your storytelling for hours. Your calm pace, beautiful pictureS and magnificent (drone) shots are a delight to watch. We've recently gotten into making cycling documentaries as well, but seeing your story makes us realize we've still got a lot to learn :). Thanks for being such an inspiration!
OMG 😮 I wonder if I could ever do something like this even in the next world?! Amazing!!! So glad to get to know the brave and adventurous you! Be you...ALWAYS! I thank God for people like you! This is like watching a movie. I wish you videoed more on this trip!
Oh man,and I was immediately hooked by the way of telling the story, this way of traveling takes it to another level and very deep, which also seems to me like a metaphor of life with ups and downs, I can't wait for 4. Greetings from Costa Rica.
Martjn, I can't wait to see the final episode. I have been to the Andes in 1999 for a month long bike journey and watching your video brought it all back. Your videography is stunning, thank you for all this work and sharing. *A storm of mountains*, couldn't say it any better.
I live in the mountains of Patillas, Puerto Rico. This area is a tropical rain forest. Usually by November you have short quick storms and beautiful days. It really hasn’t stopped raining since Hurricane Fiona. A few breaks here and there. So I don’t know how you did so much bicycling in all that rain. Cheers to you. Your journey was impressive. Overcoming so much adversity. You inspire me to do more. Thank you.
I’m amazed by people like you who can travel all by yourself and on a bicycle no less! You are brave and must be in incredible shape. Very inspiring. Such adventures you have. Really cool.
You are an incredible person on a fantastical journey. I couldn't enjoy it more. I've been following your renovation of the Italian Alps cottages too. It is just fascinating.

Wow Wow, Never thought that Peru is such a beautiful stunning country. I love to watch those long downhill roads :D Thanks for this video :D
Never thought of Peru as so breathtakingly beautiful. Looked like fun speeding downhill after so much pain going up to the high altitudes. SUPER VIDEO!! Glad u recovered from your food poisoning!😎🇺🇸
What an amazing episode to watch again. Great story telling, breathtaking footage, music; it has everything. Inspiration to the fullest 30 minutes long, every single episode. Thanks!
Wow. I never knew how many mountain ranges there were. Physically, you must have what is referred to "a runner's gene". The shear strength it must have taken to do this journey, in my mind, is phenomenal.
Watching you go around almost the world I have more respect towards you than ever before. I know I watched years ago with your bike but watching all over agin that I found you in UA-cam is more than enough for me to be one of your biggest fan ever. God bless you always. I cannot wait to watch more of your vlog with you Cabin. Take care buddy.. 👏👏👏👍👍🙏🏽🥰❤️
Just ordered both of your books from Amazon. Can’t wait to get them. Great ride, documentary and storytelling. Best wishes on you new off the grid home as well.
The quality of your work is fantastic. I found you first in the cabin and now the two years on a bike wow what a treat. First book I've bought in 20 years. Please keep the great work going.
man, you have quite the skill set. you have captured this area in such a natural way and with all of the light. I am very jealous, much better than I could have dreamt of doing myself. Congratulations.
Gives me a strong feeling of dropping everything and going pedaling. "routine is the enemy of time" - this is about as far from a 9-5 routine you can go. Thanks Martijn.
Martijn these videos are amazing, they show the real beauty of the world. Ive been with my sister on a 20 days trip around Ecuador. And seeing them again in this video is amazing! I'm from Argentina (Tierra del Fuego) and I'm really hyped for the last video and to see your images from the Patagonia.
An absolute adventure of a lifetime. Can only imagine the thoughts & emotions that must have been running through your mind throughout this journey. This is the dream, man!
Incredible. Again. You're really a gifted cinematographer and storyteller as many have said. I'd love to hear your personal reflections on trips like this, mabye at the end. What level of fitness do you think you need to do this? Do you think this is something anyone can do? What level of mental endurance do you feel you need? How much time have you invested researching all the gear and routes? What are your thoughts about loneliness and how do you confront that? Do you feel like you have any roots after traveling so much? Where is home in your heart? How do you finance such a trip? You've chosen a very unique path for your life. It's profoundly interesting. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.
Ah the vacunas. So beautiful, everything you pushed through to find a beautiful birthday spot. As for the unfortunate water, I’ve heard the BeFree filters are pretty lightweight and good at their job. I think a lot of people forget that even clean mountain water still has beasties that a non-local isn’t acclimated to, and this lack of previous exposure is enough to cause digestive problems. BeFree has a whole following online that talks about preventing clogs/getting the most out of the filter etc.
I followed you every step of the way, América, 2 years from north to south. I enjoyed it immensely! Currently I am following you, Martijn Doolaard, in the improvements of your property in the Italian Alps. Each one of your hard work, cycling, and currently, both experiences are amazing. Thank you for sharing with us, your fervent audience. Blessings. 🙏
The part where you said, "I want to go back to the Pan-American Highway," was when I was like, damn, you would love a dual-sport motorcycle. The lighter the better for back roads. I did some cycling in Ecuador and, man, it was tough. I lived there for 2 years and had my old DR650 with me and could hit every back road you could imagine in any terrain or weather. Fast or slow. Congratulations on completing this trip. That really took a lot of strength. It's admirable. I'm showing this video to my students. It's got to be one of the best out there. I'll be doing China to Morocco by motorcycle in a year. I still haven't done a big cycling trip, but you've inspired me to give it a try some day.
Oh! I forgot to say that I binged on every episode of everything you've done. Your calm approach probably belies some seriously frustrating moments when you haven't had help and needed an extra pair of hands. Brilliant record of your life.....
Binge Watched all the 3 episodes. So Calm, Peaceful, Good vibes and inspirational. I made up my mind to do a cross country bike packing tour this spring.
when i watch one of your videos i can finally get to be tor out of my daily life and see the wonders of the world. I'm a mountain biker my self actually, your videos are awesome. HU.
Amazing production and storytelling and your drone game is world class and really adds to the visual story. I don't understand why every episode does not have at least 1M+ views. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to the next episode.
Dude i have so much respect for you, you listening to you inner voice and act toward it. You are one of a few who have a million step bucketlist and you are living your life to the fullest, i cant wait when you will start your house again
Hello Martijn, I hope all is well and looking forward to the 4/4 video installment of your journey. I bought the book and it's amazing and inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Living in the edges, crossing own borders are good to human being. We witness all the necessary things in your videos to encourage ourselves. Thank you.
Found your channel the other day and thoroughly enjoyed bingewatching the bike-tour and cabin-building videos. Cudos to the beautiful pictures and scenes and being such a positive person all the way through this adventure. keep it up!
Amazing series. I can't imagine how physically demanding this journey is, but still how you bring those experiences to the film is amazing. This is exactly how a solo journey is suppose to feel. Love it!
The maps I mentioned in the video: Mapout, Maps.me, Alpine Quest, Komoot, Google Maps
You should pin this comment. I only saw this 5 pages down.
thank you
brilliant, just wanted to skip back and check again which apps you used, thanks for the info!
Mapout didn't work for me. (I later realised that is only available on iOS, there is one on Android, but it's a completely different app)
You have some amazing drone footage! Which drone do you use and out of curiosity how many batteries did you carry with you? Thank you
I follow a lot bikers here on YT, but I have never, never seen someone like you, with such impressive films.
