Buckin, you are bringing so many, including me, deeper into the vintage axe world. I love it when you show off an axe head and talk about its maker and its marks. A big draw for me into these axes is the history. Thank you for all you do!
Spent a good part of the day today with my wife going through her parents place cleaning and sorting stuff and figuring out what we're going to do now that they have passed. I came across my father in-law's old collins double bit. I threw that right in the truck glad to have the honor of putting it back to work again. It needs a new handle though and I fired up the computer when we settled in for the night intending on finding one. See the notification of a new Buckin' video so I had to watch that first and damn if you aren't talking about axe handles and where to get a top quality one. Don't know if that is pure coincidence or the universe providing a helping hand but either way thank you once again. The old collins cruiser will be making chips again soon.
So much going on with this channel not just buckin' the whole crew and community what a place! There is so much to this place just thought I'd pop in and say hello to everyone.

@@willcollier9031 I think winter is just as good as summer no bugs biting that time of year . It seem to be working (the sweet fern) so just a minor annoyance at this point. Being up north here in the U.S. we get 4 seasons I enjoy it.
I use house handle company and so far I've been really pleased with them! They have handles for absolutely everything. Keep up the good work whisky river! Love to you and the family❤️
Hi Buckin', thanks for sharing the axe handle vid, its was great! Its a fine past time to make axes and chop and split. Love it! Keep the kindness flowing and happiness and peace to you and yours and the soldiers of kindness
i found one of those in the shed that was was my stepdads.true temper flint edge kelley works. kind of afraid to resharpen and rehang it but youve givin me confidence buckin
I like your videos glad i stumbled on them. My buddy always told me the grain on the wood handle should go same direction as your cutting edge for strength purposes he said if they went side to side it would be more prone to break
Buckin, I’ve got to send you some Bowman handles. Made in South Side Arkansas, they are the best handles I’ve come across. I go down to the plant and have 500 to choose from in all sizes. They have been in business since 1967 and the quality and pride is still there. I’ll gather a few up and get them headed your way. I’ll email you for shipping details. Love ya brother.
My chopper 1 is thirty years old and I split a lot of wood with it ,still buy replacement parts on eBay, like anything else once you use one for a while you get the hang of it . Thanks for another great video Buckin .👍👍
Hey there Buckin and soldiers of kindness! Nice to see "your" people Buckin they seem down to earth and jokin all the time ehh!? Hope to see the race vids..Stay kind and hopefully you people are feeling good 🌳😎☕✊🌲
Hi Buckin love you buddy. You are pushing out so much content. I subscribe to other chanels where its lucky if you get content every two weeks or so. I think you are unique in building a community. It is much appreciated.
Good info to know amigo. People ask me all the time about where to get good handles. West Woods on ebay is good. We have a hardware store brand here that I like the design of, but you have to sort through most of them to get a good one. It's called Do-It-Best. If the design is really bad, like it is with some handles companies now, you are just screwed. Even companies that tend to use low grade wood will slip through a few quality ones here and there though as long as the design is okay.
I'm a big fan of the Eastcoast Lumberjack (Rod Cumberland) handles! Also, Buckin' you should just send me that Walters Hudson's Bay pattern. It belongs with me :), heehee.
Love the teaching you do with your boy and love the message you teach. Since watching your videos, I've really gotten into axes a lot more. I've been a woodworker for years and have always enjoyed doing older woodworking, building things how they would have been built hundreds of years ago with joinery and with tools older than you and I combined haha that being said, I don't know much about axes. I picked up a set of axe heads that I want to rehang, one will be for splitting, and the other for chopping down. What is your advice on handle length for splitting firewood vs chopping a tree down? Thanks in advance for any advice! I'm wanting to order from Whiskey River!
The Colonial Homestead in Ohio has a Great selection of vintage hand tools. I went there looking for a octagon handle for a Flintedge Cruiser Bit that my grandpa hand while living. He left the world 25 years ago so I was not settling for Lowe's. From what I was told the store owner and Killenger worked together to make the BEST old school handle patterns for another Omish wood worker to copy for Killenger. If Killengers handles are as good as the one the store owner made up for me, it would be hard to get a better handle.
Buckin, I would like an ax like the wedge banger 28" with a worn pitted 3 lb something, and maybe something unique to the northwest since i got the northeast covered. Great chat thanks for all you do. Be Well All
G'day mate, just used Aussie "Red Dog" handles, nice. After seeing your comments I will now look at handles in a different way, enjoyed & good to see the Aussie axe head.
Yep, the splitmasters are always that nice green color for some reason. I don't really know the story behind them, I'm guessing they came about when the patent for the Chopper 1 ran out but don't know where those were made or by who.

MAN HOGAN IS REALLY BECOMING A MAN ITS SO COOL TO SEE YOUR BOY BECOME A MAN ITS SCARY BUT AWESOME MY SON JUST TURNED 16TEEN AND MAN O MAN ITS WEIRD. BUT GOOD TO SEE HOGAN DOING SO WELL GOT TO BE PROUD
Buckin kinder than the average bear. Its good to see hogan get a work out chopping wood rather than being on the playstaion. Buckin try this play led zepplin cashmire on the drums and replace the lirics with your 4 in the morning song.stay extremely sharp.
Had mixed results with Whiskey River, but they took care of me promptly. They have nothing in stock, they are sold out of everything these days........I am on the hunt for a quality 32" single bit handle, not finding much I want for a rehang.
I won’t even look at a Whiskey River axe handle again, bought one and hung a 3lb head on it and it turned out great. My son on his 2nd swing the axe head hit the log square and the handle separated on the wood grain mid way down the handle. I contacted them and they said to many variables no warranty. So had the handle for 2 hrs and it is junk. Very rude customer service and no spine to their products.
Billy ray! I need to rehandle a husqvarna multi-purpose axe head and wanted some recommendations what handles do you like? I recall something about bamboo handles in one video? Might be wrong thanks for any help! Sub'ed to the channel!
Buckin', love your axes. I've been making handles for years. Just for my own tools, and for friends. I will post some instagram photos, and tag you in them.
Looks like some nice handles from these companies. Just don't order link handles on the internet. Pretty sure this company sells their rejects there. I got only one good handle out of five when I ordered on eBay/Amazon. I think the best way to get a good handle this to just go down to the hardwear store and sort through their pile. 3/4 of them will be bowed or bad end grain etc but you can find a good one once in awhile. Then you know exactly what you're going to get.
Im sure youve mentioned this on a video since this one but the beaver tooth handles look a lot more like the whisky river profile now. Its a very subtle and smooth transition to the shoulder on the handle i received

David I agree with you a 100%
Glad to see you feeling great, Brotha!!!!!
"The Chopper" was the first splitting maul I ever used as a 12 year old growing up in the sticks. Quite the contraption!
Thx Buckin, really appreciate the axe handle discussion.

Thanks Buckin', you just responded to an email of mine on wedges and axe handles. This video was awesome info, thanks, Elmo
