Why isn't SYTYCD like this anymore?! This was one of the best ballroom routines, and one of the best Argentine tangos I have ever seen, period!!!! Every dancer brought something new and fresh and amazing to the stage and there were many different dance styles, more choreographers, and a better stage.
Now it's all about manipulating votes towards a clear favourite since day 1 itself, repetitive dances, too much contemporary and not enough variation in dance styles. AND NOT HAVING MARY ANYMORE SUCKS !!!
Prerona Roy Totally agree with everything you said. So tired of the contemporary overload. The earlier seasons had such versatile dancers who killed every style. Since the last few seasons we are lucky if we get atleast one ballroom per episode.
***** I thought it was gonna be bad too, Stage vs. Street, like they were separating the 2 genres and each dancer would be doing variations of their own genre. However this has not been the case. The Street team has had to learn all the Stages dances & vice-versa, just like always. They clearly have them divided into 2 "camps" for a different way to try & get ratings. One thing is that I think this season's Stage vs. Street team are even more versatile in styles unfamiliar to them than ever before! There has been all dance styles represented on the show so far. And I thought I might possibly miss her for comedy effect, but it turns out I do Not miss Mary Murphy's hot tamale train loudness at all.
The thing that bugs me is, now that the show has gone from a 2 or multiple night format per week into a once a week show, it doesn't work right. Someone has a low audience vote from the week before, but the next week they are absolutely amazing. Then, it turns out that they are in danger & have to go home, all from a forgotton performance the week before which was since made obsolete. I think it should be here's your performance, here's your vote for that performance.
In reality, I actually hate that every show has to have "America Votes" because they think that's the only way people will watch is if they get involved. Maybe it is. But SYTYCD didn't used to buy into all that and it was up to the Judges, people who supposedly knew dance well enough to know, who was kept in and who wasn't. Then ratings chasing began and they had the whole guesr judge thing- entertainers from music & TV shows that don't really know dance giving their opinion. That didn't matter anymore, because the show went the way of the more popular Dancing with the Stars and became a vehicle for "America" to decide the dancer's outcome. That's just a popularity contest, isn';t it?
OK THanks for letting me rant. I feel "America" shouldn't judge anything as intricate as dance. This is why this show loses credibility with actual dance choreographers. They don't take it seriously as a platform for artistic expression.
+Prerona Roy Agreed! The contestants don't seem to have personality or anything unique about them. And it's rare we get a mind-blowing routine anymore. We haven't had any Twitch or Benji's in a while.
I agree. this season was one of the best and my favorite.
I think because the show feels it's giving "what the public wants," and in truth, they aren't even coming close. I've said this forever, the name of the show is "So You Think You Can Dance"--NOT "So You Think You Can Turn Flips".
Bring Janette and Brandon back as All Stars!!! They're both such incredible dancers..

Why oh why didn't Janette win season 5? but like another poster said, she did Glee, the oscars, the international ballroom show "Burn the floor" and now is doing "Strictly" in the UK. quite an accomplishment . a fan forever.
Wow ,this was one the best routines on this show,the amount of work put on by both dancers,Janette never disappointed and together with Brandon created iconic performances . Is so sad that watching whatever season is now 2022,the level of dancers have dropped so much,some people shouldn’t even be competing,minimal technique and relying on cheap gimmicks,they couldn’t hold a candle next to these 2 awesome dancers.This and Danny and Lacey’s cha cha were the hottest performances in SYTYCD history.
If SYTYCD had two winners (one guy and one girl) of each show *like they do today* Brandon and Janette should have both won. Together and in solos, they are both amazing! My favorites for that season.

After performing the best Disco and the best Cha Cha in SYTYCD history, it was so exciting to see Janette and Brandon also performed the best Tango on the show as well. A power couple success that has't been repeated since that season and we are alredy on season 10, niether have their top dances been bested and it may never happen.
Quarantine 2020 and I'm here. I loved this show and that season with those two was awesome.

After all these years, this is still my favorite performance of all on SYTYCD. There are too many others I like to pick my second place to favorite, but this stands out as number one for me.

I feel like Mary Murphy should annoy me with her screaming, but she's so funny in her enthusiasm that it all balances out lol

Season 5 and 6 were the most upsetting when Janette go cut for NO good reason and Jakob got second place. Im pretty sure i died a little inside when that happened
Yep. Completely robbed...He was and is my all time favorite.
I think best seasons were 3-5 for sure there was better choreography and I liked this stage way more than the new one its more intimate, but there have been some excellent dancers in later seasons like Alex, Lauren, Melanie, Marko, Eliana, Jakob, Kathryn etc...and as for Season 10 the current season I don't think Paul, Mackenzie, Jasmine, Aaron, Haley, Amy are all fantastic dancers too

Sytycd respects the tango argentine dance. Dancing with the stars is a shame, they play music by selena gomez and mix it with contemporary dance.

Season 10 makes me miss s5 and s4. Jeanine may have won but she didn't have my favorite routines. Janette and Brandon were so good together. Ade and Melissa were too. Then you have the butt dance and Gravity. But all the dancers were strong performers.
Hoping S10 will step up. FikShun and Amy can't perform all the routines.

Janette Manrara was contacted by the producers of the international and Broadway show Tanguera to be a part of their show after seeing this dance. Tanguera only has authentic Argentinian dancers and Janette was called on live TV and was asked to be a part of it, she had Burn the floor already booked for 3 years as well as Strictly Come Dancing in the UK therefore she couldn't participate in it. Just some facts to keep you informed.

This is without a doubt, the best tango ever performed on this show. Brandon was excellent and Janette flawless.
There's something that recent seasons of sytycd lacks: maturity. Brandon and janette are so talented but still spirited yet they have the maturity to pull off styles and choreography like this
It's now Nov 2019 -- so many years of SYTYCD -- this is still the best tango done and Janette is still the best ballroom dancer they've ever had!

Janette was my fave that year of the girls. Everything she did was not only perfection, but so entertaining. She won for me. ^_^

This is the close to argentine tango an american dance competition has come to. Everything was tango, except the gymnastics/lifts/acrobatics at the very end. I know they do it for a wow factor and to get votes so no foul from me. Well done!

Janette did Strictly come dancing for 8 years, and she is now a presenter at the BBc on It Takes Two, the spin off show to Strictly

Best Tango I have ever see on SYTYCD and perhaps ever! They had professionals come as guests to perform a Tango and it was better than that! Her footwork was phenom!

My only complain was Brandon's suit was a tad too big on him. Otherwise, it's perfection.
a french song? you must be a real genius.....number one, at the beginning of every dance they have the name of the song and the artist.....number two, you do realize this style of dance is called the ARGENTINE tango? last time i checked there was no french tango and if there is it certainly hasn't found it's way to sytycd.....the name of the song is Libertango by Forever Tango, most certainly NOT french in the slightest bit

Janette was born in Miami, she is of Cuban descent.
