2007 Trailmanor 2720, WF-8900 Electrical Panel Problem

- I started experiencing lower than normal DC voltage while on a camping trip, hovering around 11.8 to 12.2 volts. I initially thought the WF-8900 converter was failing as the fan motor was running erratically. After getting back home and diving in, I found that the main terminal from the converter/charger to the main buss was loose. Turns out there were many loose electrical lugs/connections throughout the panel on both the 12 volt and 110 volt side! NOT GOOD!
You could make marks on the top of the screws and out onto the mounts - a single continuous line - that would help you see if they are backing off again.
Our WFCO 8900 just caught fire. That's how I found your video. I wonder if loose lugs was the culprit. I'll have to investigate further.
Part of my annual is checking for loose fasteners, fittings, and connections. I haven't found anything electrical loose, but perhaps putting a dot of thread lock or epoxy on the top of the terminal screw would prevent any future mischief. If I find any that feel they must get loose they're going to get that treatment. Thanks for posting. Safe travels.
Also not a good for the wire to be tinned with solder when in a screw terminal. The thermal expand difference between the wire and the solder can cause the connection to loosen over time.
Glad nothing shorted out while camping :)
Excellent find! That would be kind of hard to catch. Because several were loose, I would say the cause is vibration when towing. Remember to add Lock-Tite. Looks like that is Aluminum wiring. If so, keep a real close eye on it.
Hi Travis. I saw your video regarding installing a hard start capacitor to help your Honda generator start your window air conditioner. Just wondering how that has worked out since 2016!!!
It still works well for the 5k window unit that we use on our sail boat. In regards to using the EU2000i for the camper...I say no. My camper uses around 1,550 watts running, the little Honda genny is only rated for 1,600 watts continuous. Basically....for me that is just slowly killing the genny by operating it at max capacity, hour after hour. Plus, compressor restarts may not happen after things get hot and lots of head pressure.
We found another energy efficient window unit that we use on one of our micro-campers. The honda does great with that and it barely speeds up from Eco Mode when starting the a/c.
@@Flyboytr Thanks Travis!
