What weight thread are you using? And are you using the same thread in the bobbin or do you need to use a lighter weight thread in the bobbin? What kind of needle are you using? What size? I'm considering getting one of these machines. I'm glad you are using one in this video.
I am using a Tex45 for upper and also in the bobbin. We are show casing our new line of Tex 45 thread on Thursday’s livestream so be sure to tune in. The needle is a 90/14 leather needle.
I laughed at your topstitching setup 😊. I do something similar, except I raise my whole machine up onto a sturdy box so that the arm is free. Not exactly a cylinder arm but it does the trick!
I would try lessening the foot pressure a little bit, the machine appears to be pushing the fabric a little when you start stitching. I had to do that on my Janome HD9 which is very similar.
I sew on a basic Janome that was $400. I can use Tex 45 top and bobbin. Sew 6 layers of marine vinyl and 2 WPC. I have tried it more than that. I did find I can’t use the snap on feet. The thick layers get hung up under the snap part of the foot. It’s pain using the regular foot. Oh well. I don’t have a problem with DST, I make sure to stay away from Universal needles. Supposedly they don’t have whatever coating keeps your needle from gumming up. A hump jumper is important. lol. I only wish I had a quilt bed, it can be awkward trying to hold the bag up in place so you keep a steady stitch. And more room around the bed of the machine. I didn’t get it for bags, but I got lucky. Anyway, people shouldn’t be so worried about not having an industrial and give it a go.
Thank you for adding your insight, Sally! We think this is a great bit of information and are definitely going to show it on next week's livestream. Tune in on the 26th at 7pm!
Did you change your needle and thread before stitching the lining? Another question I have is that in the manual it says that we should use needles for high speed machines. What is your thoughts on that.
Hi Judith, I do not change the needle and thread. I just keep on stitching. I do think that if the manual says to use a specific kind of needle, that you should do that. The Bernette machines have a 90/14 needle that I recommend for stitching faux and real leather.

I was just coming on to ask the same question ☺️
@@LeslieKingcraft Are you thinking about buying this machine too?
@LeslieKingcraft I was wondering about the thread too
@@rosellahanson5760 Not in my plans at the moment but it sure looks like a beauty 😊

That vinyl looks like it sees like butter. I’m just at the beginning, but I love the vinyl. Can’t wait to get to the suede part
I am sure you will love the faux suede, it really elevates the project!
