- Boris Johnson has said new coronavirus measures could be in place for up to six months and warned restrictions could be further tightened if the rules aren't followed. Are the new measures enough to avoid a second national lockdown? Subscribe to our channel here: goo.gl/31Q53F
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on the public to "summon the discipline and the resolve" to follow the new coronavirus rules announced across the UK on Tuesday.
In a television broadcast to the country he warned that new restrictions could last six months, and that the government may go further if people do not stick to them.
In England, rules on face coverings were expanded, with the fines for flouting the rules increasing to £200 on the first offence, and pubs restaurants and other hospitality venues will have to close by 10pm.
Hospitality venues will also have to close early in Scotland and Wales - but Scotland has gone further, banning people from visiting other people's homes.
Are these new measures enough to avoid a second national lockdown?
Political Editor Nick Watt reports and Emily Maitlis is joined by former Conservative Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who now chairs the commons health select committee.

Skyline Entertainment the harsh truth.., how many people are dying now and how many cases are there vs how many people were dying back in April? What were their underlying conditions, age?
Fact is it’s a completely virus now to what it was 5 months ago. How many jobs will be lost? Businesses fail? People suffer from depression? Suicide, Domestic violence? This will all go up. The amount of that suffer from this will make the small amount of Covid deaths pale in comparison. Instead the vulnerable should isolate and get support instead of all of society.
Skyline Entertainment that really is sad. That is a very rare case. This isn’t happening now. I had a very different view in April to what I have now. Look what happened in Sweden when they got their second wave of cases, their deaths barely went up and then continued to drop. Viruses mutate and change as they get passed. It’s no longer the same. 12 people died yesterday if Covid. 500 died of Cancer, 82 of obesity, 20 people committed suicide. Statistics on the vulnerable are there and are easy to identify. Factors increasing risk been, age, obesity, Coronary heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, gender. We can identify vulnerable groups, protect them and preserve society and lives.

@Paul Brown It appears that you're blind as well - and illiterate to boot.
So they talk about putting limits on household visits, yet they're there sitting opposite each other in a news studio, with lots of people working in the background, in the canteen at break time, same as in the house of parliament, and they expect us to see some kind of a difference? They're exempt from the rules? You have to do this but we don't. It's this kind of hypocricy that has opened the eyes to the majority of the country. Through their own arrogance and know it all attitude they have failed to see just how much people not only mistrust them, but also hate them. Not sure they care or not, but if that would bother them clearly they lack common sense, and/or insight into what they're doing to their reputation through all this.
In the previous lockdown all businesses that weren't essential to living were closed, I ask is the news essential to us living? It's not providing food, goods or medical needs, then why is the bbc and other news networks not being closed, packed with workers on their computers all next to one another on desks, not wearing masks from what i can see, shouldn't they be closing down to 'stop the virus, save lives'?
The BBC for one should be closed down permanently.
Sounds like you need to watch orwells 1984. You will see more clearly after you’ve seen it
@Arfur Fuxxakes I think you might need to read again what i wrote, the part where i said, and i quote "In the previous lockdown all businesses that weren't essential to living were closed, I ask is the news essential to us living?" un-quote. On the PREVIOUS lockdown, there is suggestion we're going to be having a second lockdown, just so you understand properly, IF we are to go into a second lockdown and all none-essential business are closed due to this all dangerous, all infectious virus that shows no mercy, are the BBC and other newsrooms considered essential and needs to remain open, when, as i said before, is packed with workers in the background at desks? Hopefully you digested the question this time around.
Another thing you fail to apply rational thinking on, is if this virus is so contagious, so easily spread and so dangerous, what difference does it make to a virus what environment people are in, whether it be in the workplace or socialising, this is my exact point, whether you are close together in a home, visiting another home, or in a busy workplace such as the BBC, which frankly, by common sense would pose more threat of spread due to their being more people in said BBC workplace who all then go back to seperate homes after work, surely that would pose more of a 'risk' than people visiting other homes in a socialising environment, there's less people involved. This has been the case for the BBC and other networks since the very beginning and throughout the duration of this epidemic, at it's highesrt rates and lowest. What is the difference between them and people visiting homes in small numbers and how does it pose more of a threat if they're really serious about containing the virus?
These unbelievable rules are not laws.

They talk as though it’s as simple as “open hospitality” or “shut hospitality” when businesses are already struggling to tread rising waters and are faced with the withdrawal of economic support
They’ve put leisure and hospitality industries into a tightening strangulation, where they can hardly remain profitable for the foreseeable weeks and months whilst covering costs.
