So glad you spoke on this topic, I always wonder how some of these UA-cam creators have so much money to do so much. Thanks for being so transparent to your viewers.
Social media can definitely paint a certain picture. I definitely want to be honest with where we are at financially in our farm. Sometimes, that means just coming out and saying where we are at financially with the farm.
I am a Content creator but Ive only been doing UA-cam for 1 1/2 years... I wonder the same thing, when it comes to smaller channels anyways...I can understand the large channels that do YT full time, but there are some small channels, that dont have a successful/profitable business yet, & they say theyre doing it debt free, so I wonder the sake thing...
I can’t speak to other channels but for us, farming debt free means that we just make due without some of the infrastructure, tools, etc. my husband and I also have jobs that allow us to work OT whenever we want. So, if we really need to make a purchase, we work extra at our outside jobs. That can be hard though bc that just means more time away from the farm. It can be a hard balance.
I love the sticker it is so cute. You're giving way too many ideas that are yours that you can do for someone else to snatch up and believe you me one of your friends would snatched it up in a heartbeat. I want you to succeed I want you to have a successful business but I do not want you to give this person your ideas I just want you to have them❣💌🌸🦋🌹🏵 I'm so excited for you I hope that you implement ideas that you have came up with because it will change your life I truly believe that this will make your business a complete success I will be ordering a shirt and your stickers and I'm going to do my part to help. Please start some of these ideas now and start growing your business because I am totally in!
I definitely understand what you’re saying and see the value in protecting your business. But, my farm/business wouldn’t be where it’s at right now if it weren’t for the generosity of others. Thank you so much for being so supportive of our farm!!
I am very impressed with your Seed Starter Classes. You have the leadership skills - a can do attitude. Admirable trait not often found in folks. Did you charge for this class if so what can you share on the details?
I used the Christmas lights for a heating pad to start my seeds like you suggested and it worked wonderful! Thank you so much for showing us how to save money. ❤️
I would love to hear more about what you use to track your spending versus earnings. Like for the seedling sale for example, A successful seedling sale where you sell everything or almost everything, doesn't necessarily mean that you made a profit... (not meaning YOU, just meaning in general, anyone that does a seedling sale) I have been spending the last couple of months trying to track how much time I am spending growing this evening so that I'm being paid for my time, Tracking how much seed starting mix I am using and crunching the numbers for the numbers for the cost of the seeds and things like that, And trying to determine how much I should charge for them in order to actually make a profit... And then for things like the cut flower bouquets- How you track the amount of money you spend on fertilizer, compost, seeds, etc. I'm currently Tracking all of those things but I feel like I don't have a good system for it, Or a good system that helps me to determine if I'm in the red or not...
Oh man. I’m not the one to ask on that one. My goal is to be much more organized with farm finances this year. As of now, I’m just a pen and paper girl. I go over everything at the end of the month and put it into a spreadsheet. I know there are more efficient ways than that but it’s over my head.
Girl I can totally relate to the ranunculus! I invested in 400 ranunculus & anenomes (a lot of the fancy italian ones too) & have had to throw out over 75% of them because I presprouted them before I had my hoophouse finished. Some of the supplies I ordered didnt work out, so I reordered 360 ranunculus because I want to grow a huge field of them so bad it hurts! Lol. I want the have rows like Tonya @ Freshcutky!!!
Sounds like we are in the same boat 🥴. But, live and learn. My anemones seem to be doing so good so I’ll def grow more of them next year! Ranunculus are another story
@@BerkeleyFarms Yep! A lot of the anenomes eventually had to be tossed, but they lasted a lot longer vefore turning yellow, getting leggy & very sickly looking... I think another one of my problems was I was overwatering them. I'm always so scared that they are too dry and I think that is and that that is one of the reasons why they were yellowing and stuff... But I press sprouted a lot of them a lot of them late December and January and they usually Bloom after about 60 days so there was just no way that they were going to do well after being in those trays for almost 60 days, So I went ahead and tossed almost all of them except for the ones that I started very late January. I finally got the who Paul's finished and ished and could have planted them out but then we started having very bad rainstorms like we usually do this time of year and I was afraid they would write so I waited and then we had a really bad windstorm and I had to totally take the hoop house down! I was trying to build the hoophouse as cheaply as I possibly could so so I only purchased 1' rebar stakes and I'm realizing now that didn't know that I'm going to have to use 3' rebar stakes for the PVC pipes to go in. We don't have windstorms often so I thought that it would be fine but nope!
That is a lofty but wonderful goal! The fact that you're debt free is amazing 🥰 My goal is very similar. I want the farm to pay for itself and to get it to a place where our farm is my full time job/income. I'm a substitute teacher currently with a bachelor's degree in speech language pathology. I'm getting ready to do my 1st plant sale. It's exciting and overwhelming! I would love to know how you created your logo and how you make it a digital file. What company do you use to print bulk stickers, make t shirts, etc? Thank you for all your wonderful videos!!!
It really is a big goal! I felt like, if I put it out there, then I’m keeping myself more accountable. For our logo, I hired a local graphic designer to make it for me. She sent it to me as a digital file. I used a company called Sticker Mountain to make the stickers. For t-shirts, I’m using a company called Bonfire that ive been very pleased with.
@@BerkeleyFarms A very talented elementary school art teacher I work with created an amazing logo for me 😍 Now I need to turn it into a digital file and order stickers for my plant sale! Thank you for all the wonderful advice!
Who did y’all use to have your stickers made? Loved your idea BTW. Don’t have a farm, but do have a little bit of a green thumb. I’ve always just given away extra seedlings/plants but thinking I be able to sell a few.
Hello! Just found your channel today (yay!). What is a snap scarf? I don't see a link in the description but I'm curious since you mentioned it a few times in the video. I think you said it was something your Mom made for you that people loved. Is there a place I can see what it is? Thanks!
Oooh, I've got an idea! Fall plant sale AT THE GREEN HOUSE! Set it up like a little shop! 2 for 1 deal! And you won't have to move your starts! 😉
You are reading my mind 😉😉😉
@@BerkeleyFarms best wishes to you!! I enjoy watching the journey!
Some great ideas there!
I am purchasing 4 acres in Mountain View Arkansas should close next month… I can’t wait 🌻💜🌻

This was really inspirational honestly. Thanks so much for sharing all these great ideas!
I wear my scarf almost every day & always get comments about it 💜
Love that you are getting good use out of it!!!
