- Excerpts from the video game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords" This is about Kreia and some alternate or cut lines from her conversation with the Exile in the ruins of the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, which takes place if the Jedi Masters have been slain by the Exile. Restored content include Kreia attacking the Exile through their Force bond, stabbing herself with a lightsaber so that the Exile would feel the pain. There is also a very long explanation of the issues which are the main focus of the game, namely the nature of Darth Nihilus and the Exile's, and a larger perspective on connections in the Force.
So depressing when you realize we will never get another Star Wars game with this level of writing .
Because Disney sold the rights to another monopoly known as EA. Fuck Disney.
+bonjanglevash Possibly the worst decision Disney has EVER made.
+lightsidemaster EA pretty much ruined battlefront. Even tho it looks good graphically, there is no campaign, and no galactic conquest. That's why I refuse to buy it.
Draven Medina
VERY GOOD decision!
Same here.
It's true that the graphics are beyond awesome, but to me, graphics are far from being the most important aspect of a game.
There are so many things wrong with this game it's disgusting.
***** Personally, I would rather buy an xbox original or ps2, buy battlefront 2, and play that rather than buy this EA abomination.

Hopeman YES!!!
will people with brain damage ever stop quoting a shabbos minature human?
People never believe me when I say I became a Star Wars fan from the games, much more so than the movies.
This is exactly why.
Star Wars TOT is why I became a fan. The KOTOR games are the only reason I am still a fan!
Same here! I was always a Star Wars fan but in my later childhood these games and other EU stuff really blew my mind and it continues to be my favourite star wars yet! After playing this game Star Wars was never the same for me when it can be this good!
Lego Star wars is why I'm a fan.
Screw the trilogies this is where the real beauty of Star Wars lies.
i agree. i got way more emotionally invested in swotor then either of the trilogies. Revan and kreia are two of the top fictional characters of all time in my mind. revan, the cunning general who would commit any evil to do the most good and kreia, the master manipulator who does what must be done
Arthas Menethil I would give anything to see a Revan Kreia interaction. It would be the most amazing give and take, nothing against Meetra, I mean she had a lot of potential to be a lot more interesting, Just the wookiepedia page alone was more interesting. Obsidian did an amazing job even with their bosses looming over them to get it done before Christmas, that's ridiculous, they made most of their money from the real fans that would've waited for their masterpiece. KOTOR one was amazing, not finishing KOTOR 2 was absurd for a game that is for a small cult audience.
TheDarkSider I play Kotor 2 more anyway. Yeah Nihilus, Kreia and Sion were way cooler. Nihilus being able to kill every Jedi, Kreia being the master female manipulator who doesn't use sex which is extremely rare, and Sion although my least favorite was still technically immortal and had to be Dun Moched to death.
i couldn't agree more
indeed. Real beauty of Star Wars. Good words.
This shows that Kreia is really not a Sith nor does she agree with that ideology. Many think so becouse majority of players play lightside and hear her opposing LS choices constantly. Yet if you try to be vicious, cruel murderer in the game you are bound to be even more berated by her. This scene is a prime example.
+Turtle1631991 A more serious Jolee Bindo maybe?
+Raitsa I'd say thats a very good way to describe Kreia, she has seen the Jedi Order for what they were in this time: Arrogant, Cowardly and almost paranoid.
She went to Dark Side and the Sith and realized they weren't much better.
Thus she set out to use Meetra Surrik to end both the Jedi and the Sith.
+Turtle1631991 Some of Kreia's reasoning is so fantastic.
I remember on Nar Shaddaa someone comes to you and asks for money, if you give it to them Kreia berates you which would make you think she's mean or bad. But then she explains that in such a situation - where people are fighting for their very lives - you're making that person a target and you see a scene of that person getting attacked for the money you gave.
She's one of the best characters in any fictional universe.
Shadowpatrick_1007
In this time? Even the prequel time jedi were the same. They think that they are always right and that there isn't anything besides what they know. "If it isn't in the archives, it doesn't exist". That's why they were so deteriorated and were so blind to Palpatine.
Juan Laise
True but they were even worse in the Old Republic era.
At least the Jedi in the prequels tried to do something about the Trade Federation and the Clone Wars rather than trying to come up with a "peaceful" solution to it, in other words pretty much nothing.
"Let that pain be a lesson" is one of the first dark side dialogue choices you have with Kreia, on the Ebon Hawk after she loses her hand. Pretty awesome that she throws those words in your face if you continue down the dark side path.
OH wow, that actually makes it so much better.
shes a gray jedi
This might sound weird, but I never felt worse in this game then when I disappointed Kreia
+Jack Ream In this particular scene or throughout the game?
Chickenman452 Throughout the game
+Jack Ream because you became too attached to that person and her opinion. Shame on you!
+Jack Ream I read a really interesting article online which basically said that Kreia is a maeternal figure, where as most mentors(Gandalf, Merlin) are paternal figures. So it really stings when you disappoint Kreia because she tries to appear strong and impart knowledge on you. You've basically disappointed your grandmother-someone who took you in when no one else would.
+Darth Creator
Kreia:nihilus, you have failed me. You have become to reliant on the force
Nihilus: You know what Traya? I'm tired of your constant lectures. I shall become stronger, and consume all living things in the galaxy.
(Beats up using sion)
Kreia: Exile, you have failed me. You have become to reliant upon the force.
Exile: You know what Kreia? I hate you!
Kreia: (stabs self.) Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*k you!
Her voice actor is amazing
Omg, she's narrated audiobooks? I'm definitely going to look into that.
Comic Kazii I seriously thought she was Maggie Smith.
What??? Have you seen Harry Potter??? They sound nothing alike.
According to Sara Kestelman's page on Wikipedia, she also portrayed Lady MacBeth. I would have loved to see that performance of hers! Both Lady MacBeth and Kreia are manipulative women after all.
has she ever talked about Kreia???
"You have failed me. Completely and utterly."
Say a prayer but let the goosebumps roll ladies and gents.
"You have failed me. Completely and utterly".
*kills himself*
This hits hard even if you don't agree with her ways. Like she just wrecks you and it actually makes you feel bad lmao
It also makes sense in context of the game. Kreia is the person whose bond is strongest with the exile, both thematically and as a gameplay mechanic. To see her harm herself as a way to reach out to you is something else
Himself?
There are so many games that don't DARE do this.
This is a game that dares fill the players cup with the consequences of being an evil man/women and tell them precisely what they are.
Oh so you enjoyed reveling in power? In Killing people with Force lighting? Cutting down people with your lightsabre? Well here you little monster have a good look.
Very few games DARE tell a player they have been bad to this level .
I suspect that is why so many people don't like her - they don't like being told their DS murder spee had consequences.
Cato the Younger Kinda like Spec Ops The Line how it makes you feel bad about killing people.
Sort off..but (spoiler alert) Captain Walker is crazy whereas Metra Surik is most definitely not crazy
Yeah that's true.
It sort of reminds me of Trevor character in GTA V. Essentially they wrote character that would actually act like many players do in the game. Nothing short of genius.
I think that this is too hard for many people to write a scenario like this, so they just don't even try.
Kreia is hands down the most complex, thought-provoking video game character ever written.
Uh, no.
Roflcopter4b
compelling argument you got there
sharangcool The burden of proof lies on you.
No, the burden of proof lies on you, as you are now making the claim that someone else is more thought provoking. By saying she isn't the most thought provoking character, you posit someone else is. So who do you think is more complex?
Anything Vintage your suggestions are without merit. Naming names from other video games doesn't prove your point. Why do you think any of those characters are more complex than Kreia?
I just want to say Sara Kestleman really knocked it out of the park with this performance here. She was the PERFECT voice actor for this role. Chris may have wrote the words, but sara brought Kreia to life.
She managed to convey such seething contempt and disappointment. I feel like I failed her myself, and I’ve never even played this game.
"You have failed me. Completely and utterly."
I have no idea why that line cut me so deeply on my first DS playthriugh, so that must mean this game is a masterpiece
Incredibly underrated story, Kreia's dialogue is probably the most thoughtful and rational take on the force of all Star Wars works. There is no arbitrary good/evil, just consequences.
Obsidian's writers are masters of grey morality and humanity. If we ever get the KOTOR game we all need over that shitty MMO, I want Obsidian at the helm with all the time in the world to perfect it.
kirbyza
I think a reboot of KOTOR 1 and 2 made by Obsidian would be great, personally (maybe have BioWare partner up with Obsidian for KOTOR 1, though). This series had amazing potential, but it all got fucked over when Obsidian was forced to release an unfinished game.
LegendofLegaia929
No, it got fucked over when TOR was made. The rushed development of KOTOR 2 was a huge misstep, but not a momentum killer.
kirbyza It dosnt help that Obsidian always releases unfinished/broken games. If bioware hunkered down and re released them it would be awesome..
TheRedlanterncorp
It also doesn't help that this game was rushed out for Christmas. They got less than one year to work on it. Say what you will of Obsidian's other games, but KOTOR 2 simply didn't get enough time.
damn Kreia, that's cold. At least she explains things more clearly then the masters do.
Yet i still can't understand where this is supposed to go %|
@@ravenousbasilisk5120 You mean her motives? It sounds like she's aware of the existential threat the peak-sith masters represent and wants someone immune to the whispers of the force to handle the problem. That the exile here is small-minded and blood-hungry means that Kreia doesn't have much hope for the galaxy.
This scene and the Light Side version of the scene make me cringe at just how truthful Kreia's words are (and at how damn powerful she is!)
Well, not cringe, but shiver
The scenes with Kreia in the Rebuilt Jedi Enclave are the most climatic and beautifully written scenes of all time in any game, any movie, anything. The impact of every word she says, revealing EVERYTHING behind the intricate and perfect plot of KOTOR 2, is almost incomprehensible.
There are so many mirror-like reflections. Exiles, wounds in the force, Exile/Kreia, Exile/Visas, Exile/Nihilus (Nihilus IS the wound in the force the exile made?), Kreia/Atris, Exile/Atris, Handmaiden/Exile, Exile/Revan. Makes your head spin, and then there's the beautiful music, too.
gibberconfirm Nihilus is Wound In the Force and Exile is Wound in the Force. He is what she would became,if she had fallen to the Dark Side.
+Darth Likaon Darth Nihilus IS the exile, the part of him/her that hungered for power and was cut off from the exile. In essence Darth Nihilus IS the exile's connection to the force given form and purpose
Panos Kalaigidis What you say is just your interpretation. Nihilus is never stated, nor hinted really, to be an aspect of Exile. First of all - no matter the gender of Exile, Nihilus is always reffered to as male. And, he is stated to have been a conciouss being before Malachor V, a complete person. I know Kotor 2 has some similarities to Kingdom Hearts, but not that much :D
Darth Nihilus is his own person. He fought on Malachor, and survived the Shadow Mass Generator.
Kreia's teachings are in fact the entire philosophy of the Art of War.
She wanted you to defeat the Jedi, philosophically, and show them that their convictions are flawed. As opposed to simply killing them in sheer emotional bloodlust and revenge.
"To fight and destroy in all of your battles is not the mark of supreme excellence.
Supreme excellence lies in crushing your adversaries resolve without fighting." - Sun Tzu
Easily the most beautifully dark and complex piece of Star Wars material that exists, and terribly overshadowed by its ideologically inferior predecessor.
Brian Sheehan Is KOTOR 1 simpler? Of course, but I don't believe that makes it a worse game. To me, KOTOR has that good old original trilogy SW feel, and although I appreciate the complex philosophy and moral deconstruction of 2, I simply prefer 1 for the reason I stated. KOTOR 2 is like a beautifully written and complex book, while KOTOR is like the original movies. I guess preference of the two depends on a day to day mood.
But the issue is that her philosophy wasn't redeemed in the end. The Exile defeated her and left for Deep Space.
@@ricoco7891 He didn't say that 2 was better. Kotor 1 is a fantastic game. Great worlds, decent writing, good story, some good characters (Bastila, Carth, Candoras, HK ). It's arguably one of Bioware's greatest achievements
Justifiably overshadowed by a game that was actually finnished.*
@@Filip1613 Given KotOR II's rushed development timetable, it's not as justifiable as you claim. Simple amazing they produced this level of quality in such a short space of time.
hands down best writing in a video game ever
Agreed.
Darth Infinitus Even better than the main 6 (soon to be 7) SW movies I find. Is that weird? haha
Boris Yuen 7 may be shit.
I agree kind you 1 and 2 were pretty bad

Darth Traya is one of my favorite characters. So deep and complex
Incomplete, this game still has one of the darkest stories in video games.
During this part i was so shock i never had so many emotions run through me at once. I was having lots of fun killing Jedi that had exiled me. When she got mad at me i did not know what to think.
She is very quotable, lol.

One can indeed hear the constant and abrupt change of tone of her voice actress, if one listens closely. She must've done a lot of takes to get these 8 mins right!

I still play both to this day, Now on my Xbox one with reverse compatibility 👌
Also the part where Atton explains to you how to kill a Jedi was chilling. That was just so evil, but the writing was so good you it just made you like the character even more. Carth never had any dialogue even close to that.

KoTOR 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Disney canon.
+Michael Warreker Disney cannon is completely unreleated to this? not to mention this could still be easily used? Its only like 4000 years before the movies.
+Michael Warreker KOTOR 2 was ass compared to the vanilla. This game was even unfinished even with the restored content
+Michael Warreker Kotor2>>>>>>>SWTOR
+Alvin Bayle if you're trying to say Kotor is better than Kotor 2 then that's what needs to be said. The "vanilla" game means without dlc or mods. By the way I don't agree with that sentiment at all. Kotor 2 to me had the best moments overall even if unfinished. Kreia was a spectacular character unmatched in almost any media star wars has with her depth.
Alvin Bayle Was ass? did you even play it? We all know it wasnt as good and incomplete, but it was a good game, should have been an amazing game, but it was good, and even with all that was left out, its still more complete than any game you buy these days xD unless you count buying the game then waiting like 12 months worth of patches and paying an extra $20-$60 as complete. idk, i felt it was a good game that could have been just as good as the first, but tbf i only played through the original release like 8 years ago 1 time, only played it again recently with the restored content, so my child memory could be betraying me xD

She did not become the dark lord out of will, but out of necesity.
This is how I view the scene somewhat and what kriea is trying to teach you depending on your alignment.
if you are light side she wants you to see that being impassive all the time and helping every random person may not benefit them or you in the long run actually.
While if you are dark side murdering random people for fun etc or petty revenge which is not needed is not actually an effective way to increase your power in the dark side.
Hence why my ds exile sith lord let the jedi masters live. Why? you might ask? Per kriea's lessons and conversations the jedi are already broken and defeated what revenge is there to be had? Looking upon them the are scared hermits unable to change or adapt. In my opinion a more fitting form of revenge is to let them wallow in their self pity and use them to gain new techniques.
When I got to this scene and the end Kriea had nothing but praise for me(while delievering some jedi master ass whooping) exile in my opinion Kriea also wanted the jedi and sith to change. Honestly I feel that the story would of been more interesting if the exile was dark side and Revan light side. Plus with the restore content playing dark side reveals alot more interesting info.
That intro music though, when the video starts. Chills.
This is the deepest video game I have ever played.
This is like the perfect melding of video game mechanics and writing. Everything makes sense and it's awesome
That was a game you felt like replaying time and time again. Unfortunately I expected a long time for a KOTOR 3 that never came...
seems no one could understand the true nature of The Force like Kreia did, not even Vitiate.
RX7821979 he and her would be a nice couple
Vitiate was a fool. Much like Nihilus, he understood very little of the Force.
@@DraculaCronqvist Kreia didn't know anything either.
Valkorion was just a madman obssesed with himself, he didin't really understand the Force, he just viewed it as a set of powers.
Vitiate was only ever thinking of becoming an all powerful and immortal (specially immortal) entity without any regard or willingness to understand the Force beyond what may grant him power (specially if that power meant escaping his main phobia: death). If you look closely, he is pathetic, he seeks immortality and power, sacrificing millions in the process of archieving his goals, simply beacuse he is too afraid to die. At the end, he never got beyond being only Tenebrae, that black-eyed child from the farm. He died being a child with a bunch of tricks. He never truly evolved himself.
Kreia will forever be my favorite star wars character
Really? I always couldn't stand her presumption to think she was so much wiser than everybody else. Like she was the only person in the world that ever aged and learned by living life and only her opinion was valid and correct. She is actually very arrogant in a way that makes her behave in the very manner she claims to despise.
I never understood why this game has no rewards for true neutral characters, it would be so amazing to play as a gray Jedi.
Problem is, most of the time you are forced to go either one side or the other. There's no simple way to stay in the middle because you are forced to balance LS and DS choices, and hardly ever given a chance for a neutral reaction. In a lot of situations, you are forced not because devs were lazy, but because you can't stay neutral to a situation like that... like when the original owner of the Ebon Hawk is captured by the Red Eclipse. I see no way to get out of a situation like that in a neutral manner.
Granted, it'd be extremely interesting to see what role a grey Jedi Exile would play in the game's story (it would add yet another layer of awesomeness to an already epic game), but sadly, we are likely not gonna see that.
I played this game as a balanced character. Exactly as you said, balancing the choices between light and dark. Maybe this is why I missed so many things in the game. Might be time for a replay 10 years later.
That actually drives at Kreia's philosophy. She hates the force because of the predestination it chooses for people, how it draws them to rigidity by awarding power. In order to be gray, in order to fully embrace Kreia's teaching, you have to be willing to forsake power that isn't your own - drawing on her true teaching of strength. More than just a game mechanic, the way the game awards power based off of light / dark side points is an integral part of the game's philosophy
Kreia is not really a gray Jedi.
apathy is death. apathy = grey. Look at Bindo, a grey jedi and he was content to sit on the wookie homeworld while thousands died.
I think what's often missed here, as I interpret it, is that when Kreia says "you have failed me" she's talking about her hopes for the Exile in being a Wound in the force. Kreia hoped that the will of the force could be denied through being that Wound, and that the manipulative temptations of the Light Side and Dark Side could be pushed aside so that people could make their own choices without being thrown into that dichotomy. Kreia hoped The Exile would learn to break away from the Dark Side and the Light Side, and be their own person.
But they didn't. They let the power of the force corrupt them, and they were manipulated by its currents as sure as any other. They were just another pawn. She tried reaching The Exile strength, true skill, and the power of breaking free from the force, and the Exile spat those teachings out in her face by becoming just another result of the Force's tyranny.
This is sad that this story is no long canon. All these characters had a significant role to the Star Wars genre. I know its all fiction, and crap can change at the whim of the writers ..... or in this case the owner with the big bucks. Oh well that's life. :/
Actually it is
Revan and Malik are cannon so this is too
Malak
james a As of April 25 2014 Creative declared anything that is not of 6 Movies, the new movies, Clone Wars cartoon, Rebels cartoon, and future novels based on the previous as NON CANON.
Logically all of its fiction, but basically expanded universe material is no longer fact now in this current Star Wars universe. Meaning Darth Revan, Darth Malak, and anything else Old Republic never existed. This goes for events in the New Republic era like Darth Krayt, Darth Talon (with her sexy self), Darth Maladi, etc etc.
There excuse was they wanted a more consistent Star Wars continuity without a lot of confusion for them, and the fans. Very LAME!! :/
ShinXari Darth Bane went from a super buff bald white man to a skinny asian guy in samurai armor. His apprentice Darth Zannah went from a hot blonde woman to some unnamed human male with no details. Both were basically Revan acolytes basically tailoring the entirety of the Sith Code around Revan's personal holocron notes.
Disney itself is rather confused of what to do with the Bioware based part of the timeline. The Old Republic would simply collapse if it was outright declared non canon and so EA is basically given the task of having the KotoR series pull double duty for two separate timelines which is bound to cause issues. For example Revan was supposed to be in the The Clone Wars to tie together the two eras but was simply killed in ToR because it was too hard to cleanly implement. You can just google his rejected model.
Real talk there should be either a movie or TV series based on Kotor 2
Should be KOTOR 1 then 2
It would explain the story more and be less confusing
Morgan Weazy haha what a lovely coincidence to see this comment, I'm actually writing a KOTOR tv series right now.
Bethany Marie that's cool Bethany are you going to put it on UA-cam because if you do I'll be the first to watch it

How the hell does that happen ?
Is that part of TSLRCM?
SuperLeetroy
yes
ye....usually she just zaps you into oblivion.
If Darth Traya was canon, and oh I wish she her, I think she would be a Sith Lady who is absolutely despised by future Sith such as those in the Banite line. She walked the path of Light, but was betrayed by it. She fell to the Dark, but was betrayed by it. So she despises both, and despises the Force itself. She is not a Gray Jedi, not truly. She is not between Light and Dark, she is beyond, a 4th way.
Her stabbing herself gave me more of a shock than finding out that I was Revan in the first game.
>stabs a lightsaber into her own stomach
>gets up and walks off like nothing happened
While this storyline could not make into the movie, a TV series would be quite fitting. To explore characters in depth and philosophy of the force. And lower risk in box office.
Losing the interactive elements would kill the impact of the story. Videogames of this caliber made passive media storytelling obsolete.
I still remember the first time I saw her activate her lightsaber , stab herself and the music kicks in .
IT WAS AWSOME .
One of the best scenes in the game, not only because of the narrative, writting and voice acting aspects, but because of role-playing potential.
My first playthrough was full darkside character and killing Jedi Masters was one of the most satisfying things I did in RPGs, but after that scene I decided to change my ways, I spared Atris, I did everything I could to redeem my character during that playthrough.
I never seen a scene that would force me to change my character like this did, usually my characters in RPGs remain what they were at the beginning to the very end and many games encourage you to play this way, but this game actually make you to think about what you did. It's fantastic.
Kreia will always be my true teacher. She actually influenced me.
This is amazing, both the Dark Side and Light Sided versions of this scene show so much more, especially the Dark Sided one. I've been watching any of these restored scenes that I could find, and the plot makes SO much more sense after seeing this stuff they cut out. The plot and in particular Kreia and her motivations are so... confusing, but with this they are much easier to understand.
this speech gives me chills on my spine, especially at 5:57
She just stabbed herself with a lightsaber because she knew I'd feel it too, kind of regret not going dark side just to see this
Brilliant monologue drowned out by the music.
Man, Kreia is so fucking intelligent and knowledgeable. Such a well written and beautifully complex character.
I also like that Kreia doesn't really see good or bad, light or dark. She doesn't care if you've fallen or ascended, but that you learned from it.
Seriously, how the heck did we go from this to “the power of one, the power of two, the power of many”?🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
i hope they end up creating another one as good as this one, with the full game on release. not the play £50 for some unfinished game with 100 bugs, which you get today. this has been my favorite game for since i can remember
+bob1066ish Now let's be honest, as good as it was, this was some unfinished game with 100 bugs.
true
My only gripes with this amazing game is the opening on Telos, Citadel station, and Peragus II before the Telos academy and the lack of an ending. Everything else is beautiful
Sith lord restored helps immensely in a lot of parts that feel shaky
Play on STEAM and subscribe to the restoration MOD. It restores all sorts of lost content the was cut out due to a bug and finishes up the HK sidequest. Much more satisfying conclusion and makes things a lot clearer.
I hope that will make a film on her character
I remember when I first played this game and of course decided to do a darkside playthrough as my first run through (because why not?) and I enjoyed going around causing mayhem and giving into my darker impulses throughout the game. However when I came to this scene, I dunno exactly what it was. Maybe it was the music, maybe it was Kreia lecturing me, or maybe it was just the empty courtyard I was in where the council was supposed to be, but it was at this moment it really hit me home exactly what I had done and the ramifications of that really started to sink in. You had destroyed the Jedi order utterly and completely. It will absolutely never come back and never have any hope of ever coming back. Its kind of in this chilling moment you realize that the dark side.........has won and you caused it.
Man, when she said you failed me I legit felt sorry. Like never in my years as a student have I ever felt wanting to make a teacher proud this much.
What the?! Never saw that coming! And I played both light and dark sides. Is it in restored content? And later is what? Game's end?
Dialog files sometimes include alternate lines and whole conversations that were cut at various points during development. The game doesn't end after this, no, the Exile is supposed to wake up and go to Telos.
zieba It would be a pretty cool ending though. It'll make you stop and think dam.... I probably shouldn't be such an ass XD
Quite a speech. It was truly moving, and I even cried a little bit.
Every now and again, I play through Kotor2 just for the dialogue with Kreia, there is no good vs evil with her, both extremes are wrong, she doesnt want death and destruction but she doesnt want blind adherence to some arbitrary code. Every other StarWars interaction just seems to fall short. This is one of the greatest written games in existance I think.
What a shame that Kathleen Kennedy's new trilogy couldn't have amazing dialogue and compelling characters like this video game. What a shame...
To be fair this is pretty uncommon in the movies in general.
Its because her strong woman have to be young with no need for no man and the man around her have to be mentally deteriorating morons.
Kotor 2 really ruined any games chance of beating it in but quality and philosophy
Imagine if they had the full time to make this game
I agree. Whenever I spoke to Kreia on the Ebon Hawk or even the last bit on Malachor, I always left with something I could think about personally. Kreia's advice helped me through some bad times lol
Krexposition
Kreia follows her own ideology, one where it is better if neither the Jedi or Sith existed, for her they are one in the same, each one blinded to the will of something they can't possibly comprehend.
Kreia your just mad you didn't get to absorb the Jedi Masters' powers

Man, KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2 were such brilliant videogames, especially the first one but also the second in its restored version....I'm seriously angry that they never thought to produce the restored version themselves and left all the job to the modders....and I truly would have liked a third chapter for this to be a real trilogy....I know The Old Republic is supposed to be that but honestly I don't like that one...I mean, think about a third chapter where you play as both Revan and the Exile and you face the True Sith Empire.....that would have been awesome....and yes, of course, KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2 are far superior to Episode 7 and 8....
Obsidian Entertainment try to petitioned to LucasArts for a Content Patch which would restore the content that was cut out.
But LucasArts refuse the request for some reason?
Music emphasizes the drama :) I'm glad you liked it, this is my first video of the year.
I personally preferred the LS version of this cutscene. Seeing the Jedi Masters describe the force bonds was so much more engaging, the way Kreia lectured them, the death of them all... it just felt so much more engaging than with just Kreia rambling at you.
Still lovely writing and all, I just prefer the LS version here.
Kreia telling the Masters they are wrong is understandably preferable to her telling you that your wrong!
She is the greatest teacher that anyone could have.
Revan had three teachers, but he came back to this one, Kreia. To understand everything is to understand her.
CAN YOU MAKE THE MUSIC A BIT LOUDER?!!!!
This is the most complex story I have ever seen from the Star Wars franchise the dialouge is so rich and well written this is really an intellectual game.
I'm not up to date on the Star Wars lore but after I just got done playing this game a day ago I felt like Keira was actually good minus attacking me, she was just trying to teach that is the force and not let it use you , as in the sith wanting to use it a certain way and the Jedi wanting to use it a certain way
TL;DR Kreia knows absolute good is better than unrestrained evil.
Light siders gain strength and power by taking on others struggles and gaining that experience.
Dark siders that kill indiscriminately eliminate sources of growth and power by eliminating that struggle .
Eliminating a strong opponent does not truly grow one's strength, either, until the time is right.
How can one run with the wolves come night when they spend all day sparring with puppies?
Learn from enemies. Physically best them if one must but spare them. Spare them until they can broken. Once they are broken death is a mercy and they may come to serve. Be wary of such service, however. When they make their move they may finally be destroyed. That is how strength is earned through the dark side. One can not feed off the power of others when everyone is dead.
The level of writing for kotor 2 is wayyy better than all of the star wars films in my opinion
Its my first time seeing this in a year and i was still a little shocked when kreia stabbed herseld so fast
Sarkeesian, eat your heart out.
Some games: *have well-written female characters*
Idiots Online: "checkmate feminists! I can name 10 well-written female characters! Equality achieved!"
A, she said no games have well written female characters. Secondly, one can name a lot more than 10. Especially when you include the main characters of RPGs, as they can be either male or female.
1. Citation Needed. She talks about trends, a proportional lack of positive female characters. She did a series on examples of good ones, and she acknowledges good examples in most videos.
2. Great! No one really cares. I use 10 as an example. I saw someone "disprove" her videos by citing Clementine from The Walking Dead, one example of a well-written female character. Anita never claimed that good representation doesn't exist, she's advocating for more of your Clementines to be a thing since her whole deal is a diversity of PCs and NPCs in video games. I doubt many of the people who like TWD would say yes to "would you like to hear the story of a little black girl getting over the loss of her parents and having to grow up among horror?", but they did like it and now we've moved a step forward.
3. Main characters in RPGs are rarely well written, in my experience. Revan and The Exile aren't incredible characters, they're self-inserts. The good characters are the NPCs.
11 tw she doesn't talk about trends; she makes unsupported assertions over and over again. Several times in her video series she says that the only time a 'strong' female character gets through development is when they're a "straw feminist". Also, that's the whole point of RPGs, hence the name "Role Playing Game". You control and decide for the character. A good player character in RPGs is one where the story is built solidly around your decisions, making you the focus.
There is plenty of diversity in video games. And her basis for calling for more is absolute bunk. Hell, her own Master's thesis couldn't list more than 4 positive traits for women in video games, while she list more than 8 for men. If producers were restricted to her list, every female character would be the exact same goddamn person. And not only that, the idea that video games get people to be more violent is like saying that they make people more violent, an idea that was disproven in a US federal court case.
There are plenty of strong female characters in video games. They aren't a tiny minority. They are a large chunk of populace in video game universes. They're a minority though, and why? Because female gamers are a minority. A disproportionate minority to the amount of females in video games.
Oh-ho, far more than ten, my very gullible friend.
AMAZING STORYLINE AND SCRIPTURE, holy crap!
Kreia at the end of the day seems to me doesn’t care about you doing unnecessarily the ‘right’ thing or the wrong thing. What she cares most about is you doing the wise thing that must be done regardless at how immoral it is.
I just love the part between 7:27 and 7:33, small of a speech as that is. Kreia sounds like the old, tired woman she is at that point, one who's exhausted from all of her failures, all of her betrayals by those she had thought to be her friends and allies--and then failed again by someone who she had poured all of her hopes into.
They really picked the right actress for this. Hopefully Kestelman can get a role in Obsidian's Kickstarter game as the narrator, that would be really awesome.
Mash Ayn Rand and Friedrich Nietzsche into an old force welding lady. That's Kreia.
Also your grandma and a jar of wrinkles
digger nick Hateful but useful woman plus the original hipster Nazi?
10 years later and such writing is still unsurpassed. 7:06 SAVAGE
Ok, in the ACTUAL game, she just hits the Exile with Death Field until he/she collapses
That’s probably without the TSLRCM. Her stabbing her self is more powerful and shocking
Love the cut content - thanks so much for posting. Kreia's my all time favorite SW KOTOR character.
Kreia is the reason why Kotor 2 is > Kotor 1
This is what I love about Kotor 1 and 2. The conversations, real conversations, but now in most rpg games you only get a few lines of dialogue.
