My Gran's old maglite hasn't been working for about a decade. Just randomly thought about trying to fix it today and found your video. Clear instructions and no faffing about with unrelated things. Thank you so much! Never knew about that spare bulb behind the spring. This has sentimental value to me as well so I'm glad I can use it again.
Thanks for posting this video. I had my old mini maglite that was sitting around for years after the bulb died. I never knew that there was an extra bulb tucked away in that sleeve but I found it and now it is working again. Today is a good day! Thanks again
That's awesome news. As for your question about the xenon being brighter or not. I've not noticed. I have been using mini mags since the 80s and can't remember if the brightness is better or not.
Thank you so much for this video! You just saved me a bunch of money and hassle. Found the replacement bulb and eventually fixed my mini maglite! You’re awesome.
I'm the person that reads the instructions with everything; and the maglite instructions tell you there is a spare bulb in the tailcap, HOWEVER! the one thing they did not tell you how to do was how to remove the spare bulb from the tailcap! No idea you had to pull the spring out. This was a great video. Now I know where and how for the situation that can and will arise.
I bought my mini mag lite in Rio about 10 years ago. I haven't used so much but I had a problem on it and it wasn't working. I've never heard about that extra light bulb at the back of the flashlight. Amazing! Thank you for the hint. Sandro Lessa from Ilhéus- Brazil.
Should have watched this video before pur hasing new bulbs. Never knew they had spare bulb tucked in. Do you know if other maglites have this feature too? Thanks for the great video!
What if you replaced the bulb and it still doesn't work. All I get is a weak yellow light and only when I tap it gently, like some intermittant connection. Is there a way to clean some contact point that turns the light on and off?
I remember when Maglite was considered one of the best flashlight you could buy. After LED flashlights from other manufacturers started appearing, Maglite seems to have been left behind. They still make a good light but they don't really stand out like they once did.
Yes, I still got an old red mini mag AA Zenon bulb 💡 light and replaced the bulb but it seems a bit dim now compared to other brands like police security lights which are all LED
Yeah UA-cam University ! ! ! And thanks to DIY Telecom ! ! ! ! I was just about to throw this thing out and not only did he show me how to change the bulb - he showed me that I ALREADY have a replacement ! ! ! ! IT'S A GREAT DAY ! ! !
@@DIYTelecom I'm happy to see that you saw that you helped me out, made my day even better. I like to say that miracles are happening every day - we just have to pay attention. I prefer to walk the path of gratitude and stay in the light. I messed the flashlight up trying to figure out how to change the bulb. Then I found YOUR video - the first one and the perfect one for me. Once I found some tweezers to take the bulb out - I realized I'd ripped out that tiny piece of metal on the base that makes it work. I went BACK to YOUR video to see if I could see where or how that metal was placed, but you didn't go that deep in disassembling it. While I struggled with the flashlight - your video ran to the end - and another video downloaded and started to play. THAT video showed someone taking a Maglite apart to remove corroded batteries - AND HE SHOWED THE BASE WHERE THE TINY PIECE OF METAL GOES AND HOW TO INSERT IT ! ! ! I'm not what you would call a very "religious" person - but don't try and tell me I'm not blessed. Thank you again for your help. And by the way - the flashlight is NOW working perfectly ! ! !
You should have cleaned the bulb with a cloth, because it was probably touched by someone at the factory, and there was grease on it even though you didn't touch it ))
Supporting a domestic product will usually be more expensive then mass produced over seas like a hardware store or w.e but overseas quality tends to be crap hence why someone would buy a durable flashlight like a Mag. Best of both worlds buy a Mag replace with cheap overseas bulbs. It's like Zippo, great lighter but the fule, flints and wicks cost ya. The Fule is just Naptha, Coleman sells a huge bottle the flints in Bics are the same size/shape and you can source wicks elsewhere from cotton string to Carbon felt which doesn't burn so lasts longer...
I forgot to mention. Main problem with Zippo is fule evaporation, you can buy a cheap overseas insert but will break. Cut the corner off a ziplock or a section out of an old bike tire and use it as a gasket..
Me gustaria poder csmbiar la bombilla led de mi mini magilte 2AA pero el modelo de led ed distinto al del video. Entienfo wue es mejor, no es un dimple bulvo con positivo y negativo dino wue el led ys viene encapsulado.
Forget about bulbs and convert to real LED which will last much much longer and be easier on battery life. The Minimags that use AA cells are a better idea anyway since I have been critical of those that use AAA cells all of the years that I have owned three of them.

The best video on this topic; closeup view with good explanation and no herky-jerky movement. Thanks!
Well, I'll gladly take all those compliments! Glad to help! :-)

Thanks I kept my old light from years ago thinking I would try and fix it one day and that day was today cheers

I had no idea I had an extra bulb. Thank you so much.
Too bad there aren't more surprises like that in life? 😁

My mini has been working forever until now! Thank you for posting this. I didn't know about the spare :)
IRK? the spare was unknown to me too for a while.
Read manuals
Amazing! Why do we not know this already? Thanks so much.
Ha! Neither did I! 🤨
Thanks so much! I never knew there was a spare bulb. Now I'm sure my mini mag will work for another 20 years.
Thanks for instructions and pointing out there is a spare at the base.
I was literally two seconds away from throwing this thing in the garbage thank you very much for your video it made my flashlight work again
Isn’t that excellent? 😄
You made my day after some years of darkness! 😂 It was hidden under the spring
Perfect. Replaced with no issues and ordered new ones. Thank you.
Perfect!👍😁
Thanks! I had no idea there was a spare bulb stored in the base. Great video.
don't you wish life had more surprises like that ? :-D
I agree: well-done instructions & video! Thank You!! I did all that. Inserted new AA batteries. Still no light! ?? More help, please

You just saved me $25! I had no idea there was a spare bulb! Works again! Thank you sir!! 😀

Thank you, found the spare one like you suggested in the battery cap , now much brighter, cheers
excellent news! :-)
One question though, are those newerxenon bulbs more powerful than the original bulbs that would've came with it many many years ago?
Can we find for this flashlite led bulbs on aliexpress? I want to upgrade
What's the way on how to disassemble the battery cap of mini maglite thanks in advance
Amazing and thank you!!! 🤯 I replaced the bulb, but now I can't get the light to turn off?! What am I missing? 🤔
Any suggestions if it’s not the bulb that’s the issue? I tried changing it and it still will not turn on.
I did not know that, Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Good to hear from you sir! 😊
When I put my light back together the dimmer stopped working I have to disconnect the battery to turn it off. Any ideas? Thanks ✌️
wow! I didn't know there was an extra bulb... amazing! thanks!!😅
Wouldn't it be nice if life had more little surprises like that? 😄
@@DIYTelecom right? hahaha

Pencil eraser is my choice tool for cleaning contacts.

@@DIYTelecom I finally got around to changing the bulb in my MagLite Mini. Thank you for the tutorial!!
I think 5mm led will also work
That size cures ailments..
1. Thats a xenon bulb, not LED. 2. $13 is way too much. You can get em $5 direct or at most hardware stores. 🙃

It is possible to replace with LED?
I'm really not sure. 🤔
I never knew it had an extra right down in there
You just saved me from throwing my mini maglite in the trash! Thank you, you saved me $30 from buying a new one!
Wonderful news! 😄
@@DIYTelecom thanks again, I ordered and replaced the used bulb - 2 pack for $8.00!

You can get led drop ins now. Much better
The bulb holder moves light looses connection goes off what do I do
Almost sounds like something wasn't reassembled correctly? 🤔
Add the tiniest smidgeon of silicon grease to the o-rings and threads.
Wonderful point! 👍

Not LED at all.
