  • This week I installed a Whale gulper IC pump with a two-way manifold for pumping greywater overboard. Ava and I installed new mirrors and finally have hot water aboard the boat.

+Sail Life: Hello Mads!... AND Ava!
FWIW, I _"feel your pain,"_ re: the *_nasty surprises_* caused by the differences in connectors/missing parts, needed or required tools/equipment, etc, etc. In my fiddling around w/ various projects over the past 60+ or so years, I have run into numerous of these. Thus, I can most certainly _commiserate_ w/ the frustration you are feeling. In any event, the best of luck to you both in overcoming said. You really deserve it!
As is always the case, this video gets 👍👍👍for excellence, in particular for Ava's closing contribution. Her "see you" as the video ends is absolutely *PRICELESS* ! 😂Mads, you have picked a *_true winner_* !

Someone maybe commented already (can't read 200+ comments) that tightening the rigging screws with a screwdriver is a bit hazardous as it will twist the body of the screw. It is recommended always use the two wrenches, one to hold the wire from rotating and other to turn the rigging screw. And yes, I eagerly wait for a new video every Monday ... :-)

Mads is going up the mast, next thing we know there will be a sail attached to it . Are you going for a bosun's chair or using a climbing rig with a foot hold. Well worth having this kit on board, the moment you don't have one something gets dislodged or a halyard goes up the mast.

I would suggest a sheet of noise absorbing foam between the gulper and the bulkhead. Even a quarter inch of foam, and rubber washers over the bolts for a softer connection makes a HUGE difference.

Hi guys. Disappointing that Whale have not made the info clear and a priority.
When you fit your main bilge pumps which we know you have already covered using submersible pumps and diaphragm pumps. Do yourselves a big favor and fit independent water detector sensors in the bilge so that they go off as soon as water is detected in the bilge. They are very cheap from Amazon around €4 and work independently from a PP9 battery. They will give you a heads up on moisture in the bilge compartments and you can fit more than one in various locations. Batteries last more than a year. Like a gas alarm, smoke detector and Co2 alarm we consider them a must have for liveaboards. Hope this helps. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

Mads is getting ever so much closer to having a full stand up comedy set. Entertaining as always and the interior is really coming together nicely, you guys will truly have a home on the water and not just a boat that has some modifications. Hoping for smooth sailing (so to speak) in the final stages of your refit. And fair winds when you set sail.

I’m thinking a few steps ahead of grey water and pump components. If you could have a system that the grey water flows to then the float turns on a pump that pushes sea water or fresh water through the system you would be keeping components out of soaps and other gummy substances. It would always be a clean system. Hope it helps you in the long haul!

Hi Mads, May I say that I'm a bit concerned that I haven't heard you mention "Shakedown" when you're talking about leaving. As amazing a DYI guy as you are (Truly) I see this boat as a somewhat experimental endeavor at this point. I could easily see spending a couple of weeks sorting out bugs. Remember that the most dangerous thing in a boat is the calendar.

As the crow flies the distance between Denmark and the UK is around 500 miles, less than 1/3 of the distance from Miami to Houston. And they don’t have to go as the crow flies, especially when there’s cool stuff to see along the way. They can hug the shore to the north or south if they choose. If there is no worry about SV Basik traveling from Washington state to Panama, why the concern traveling from Denmark to Scotland? It’s Europe. Europe is a good distance from the US but not far from itself and it’s well explored and mapped. Loads of potential ports along the way and help if needed. It’s actually a trip Mads has already made (in reverse) so he’s familiar with conditions and obstacles. They aren’t crossing the Atlantic or Pacific without human contact for weeks.

Does the silverglans driver have a 24v DC or AC secondary? If he could run the LED directly off of his 24v DC system that would be spiffy.
Permanently wired AC lights on a boat are a bit silly, especially as he would be inverting to line voltage then back to 24v. Also, LED.productis not specifically designed for marine use tend to be very noisy and cause interference to marine radios -especially SSB.

I noticed that you had plastic valves attached to you pex water lines. I have been trying to locate some to install in my boat, alas I have been having trouble tracking some down. Any help would be great.
Also I love the videos. Keep them coming.

Getting close! Your videos seem to fly by and I'm always thinking it cant be ending already! Perhaps next video you can go over your "to do" and "doing" lists so we know what's left!

It's a shame you guys got stuck with old stock on your water pumps, they could have at least included a wiring retro fit kit. I'll bet it's really nice having hot water on board now. Nice job on the mirrors, ladies always want to look their best. Your head is looking great guys. Getting both big and small projects done is the way to go, I can relate to you both concerning those. I can't believe you were able to find such old technology to use but heh, whatever works right. Glad you have a nice neighbor who pointed out the strut issues and is willing help you fix them. Until next time guys, sea you!

Wow departure is down to a matter of days!! That is five years of hard graft about to pay off... If you head to Scotland and need a hand with lines through the Caledonian Canal I'd be happy to help!!

Hi, I always used to get a pro to do the adjustments on my rig. In Finland is cost 140€ which does not seem so much when you get the assurance from a pro rigger that the rig is in order. I would recommend this to you too. Once the pro has done the adjustments and tightened all then measure the turnbuckle and write it down so you can adjust it to the same later in case needed.

Well done Mads another great Vid'. Leaving soon... Cant believe it, you have been part of my weekly watch list for so long. Hopefully the format gets only better. As for whale, we have had their products on board for years and I am not a huge fan. Slowly swapping them out as they fail, which shouldn't take long now. Hope you have better luck than me.
