So proud of Subaru, she's really doing her best in learning English.
Of course she is.. and that's mean every single holotori member can speak english
I mean she always translates her streams to English herself, she's goes the extra mile to make sure her overseas audience understands the context of certain topics she is talking about
Her reading and writing is probably the best among JP.
@@Firehot4321As a note she doesn't actually translate her Saturday morning streams herself she gets a professional to help her
@@sleepylion9788 i'd say ririka miiight be better
Subaru every English question - "I don't know if this is right."
Also Subaru every English question - *is right*
Reverse Dunning-Kruger effect. She's beyond the "knows a little and thinks she knows everything" hump.
She's that kid that's in every class that always says they didn't know anything and ends up with "Oh an A? THAT'S SO UNEXPECTED!".
She's learned enough that she knows there's so much about the language that is unknown to her.
The more you know, the more you realize how much you don't know.
@@ValkyrieTiara The unknown unknown shrinks until all you see is the known unknown, and that's scary.
@7:09 Sui gave up when she saw she has the same answer as Miko hahaha.
Same thing with Nene last time 😂
No confidence XD
I've always wondered why Miko sounds like she has food in her mouth when she's imitating someone speaking English. Glad to know she said it's to sound more native! Very elite reason!
It does actually kinda(not really but you can see the thought process) sound like an American accent.
I've noticed a lot of Japanese people (well, internet streamers at least) sound like their tongue grew three sizes when they try to speak english. They think over emphasising the R sound makes them sound native, and not like they got a bad case of food allergy lol
The thing is, that's really just how Miko always sounds, and is why her Japanese is also infamously hard to understand. Iirc, she apparently has an unusually short tongue that causes her speaking issues.
Been watching clips of Miko since 2020. This is finally the day when I understand the reasoning behind her english pronunciation.
yea it's japanese habit
I expected nothing less from Subaru, after seeing how she was able to hold her own conversation with EN and ID when she solo collab'd with them.
She studied hard.
Similar vibe to how Calli studied super hard in Japanese.
Calli's Japanese progression was a thing of beauty. Worthy of a clip compilation if there isn't one already.
my day is ruined when miko didnt say TA-KE in second quiz
She tries to HI-DE her incredible knowledge.
I was waiting for her to butcher the pronunciation, I am utterly disappointed 草
Somewhere a certain Rain Shaman will said "T-ta-ke janai."
@@AbrahamArthemius
Yeah. She drilled the right way into Mikochi’s brain. 😂
oleyyyy Türk buldum
"Breads Aren't Real"
~ Mikochi (probably)
5:19 Her voice when she read english always so funny😂
Sounds like shes talking around a mouthful of cotton
“I AM IDOL!”
😂😂😂 sounds like she eating something
It actually sounded OK lol
Botan sounds the same way when she reads english
3:08 Fubuki hits Miko with the "she doesn't naruhodo at all" lol
Zenzen naruhodon't 🤣
Classic Miko's wakatta/wakkanai moment.
miko naruhodon't
"You must watch with subs."
_-Hoshimachi Suisei_
No, no. She’s got a point.
7:05 Suisei going "ehhh~" cuz she knew she got it wrong cuz she marked the same as Miko really got me 😂
sasuga elite miko
Often = Offside
I think Mikochi got traumatized after playing Captain Tsubasa
I also hate the offsides rule in soccer. Screws with the flow when the forward is making a pivotal move. 😅
Miko is a dub watcher
Lolll
Thats why she isnt learning unlike Subaru :)
Sub watcher supremacy proven again and again
On one hand, Azki and Subaru, then Sora and Suisei. But on the other hand you have "Elito Miko"
Miko is a big fan of Supernatural
She frequently talks about it in zatsudan, but since those parts are not often clipped, it might not be well known
She likes Supernatural? Is she around during the homophobic gay Destiel incident that blew up the fandom that one time?
3:37 timestamp for Sui’s noise
tskr
I didn't realize Azki was good at English.
Check out the Duolingo stream AZKi did a while ago. She basically blitzed through the tests.
She's a lot better than most realize.
Gives me hope that one day, someday, she'll play Kholat for us.
Probably since she is a professional map maker that she learned from reading those.
Or check out her English only introduction stream she did way back when she officially joined hololive
You can look at the Hololive language spoken by the talents in the wiki.
"Are you sure?" is what you say to a hypochondriac.
"I've been shot!" "Are you sure?" Seems correct to me.
@simulationkoyo "I think I have co--vid" "Are you sure?"
@simulationkoyo She said not appropriate to say to someone who looks unwell. They all work depending on the situation I think.
"are you sure sounds kinder" made me crack up. No, it does not lmao
I'm glad to see the sub/dub debate happening globally lol
Subaru's english lesson is showing here.
I hate to do the cliche "why is noone talking about x' comment, but literally nobody in the comments is talking about how good AZKi's english comprehension seems to be. Really surprised me. Her pronounciation was good too, she even silenced the 't' in often (something done in older British English).
I remember Ui also brought up the T-less "often" in a discussion about English years back.
Not just English, she’s a whole 60 points above everyone else. AZKi lowkey is pretty smart.
@@YY-wu7et Yeah, tbh I wasn't entirely surprised to see she had the highest score (AZKi might well be the only Gen 0 member who isn't pon) but how much higher she is really is quite impressive.
@@YY-wu7et She actually answered every single question correctly.
I guess it’s because many of them know AZKi is good at English.
Subaru is good too. It’s just that she has to learn how to pronounce and form her sentences. Other than that, she is quite good at English.
My oshi is a dub watcher 😩
If it helps, she watches in JP dub.
But at the same time, she can't appreciate the original language, what heresy!!😩
Learning Japanese is paying off because I busted out laughing when she put “とリ” for bread 😂
I laughed as well. And she sounded confident too. 😂
I am good at Hiragana but I can’t make my brain remember how to notice Katakana and no way can I ever know Kanji without relying on translations. 😂😂😂
Miko pronounce sounds like kazuma's "Freeze"
I was already 4 minutes into the video when I realized that Fubuki was behind Miko the entire time. Truly an arctic fox, she uses camouflage well in order to blend into the white background :3
Sora is really close with the second question as her answer can be translated as "she takes great care of animals".
Meanwhile, Azki just casually gets everything correct.
Going from this to the GTA collab, Subaru's English has come a long way.
problem with Miko is, japanese is also difficult for her.
Thanks for the longer clip! Absolutely love these english quiz type streams :
I see miko is team dub, whereas subaru is team sub lol
its how you get good at a language. when ya learning japanese. watch shows with jp subs. massively helps improving understanding the language. goes for any other language just as well.
@@GunRunner106 God bless clips with JP subs.
I'm super happy with all the work the generations are putting into understanding each other. We have a lot of EN members who speak some Japanese or are actively learning Japanese, and we have a lot of JP members who speak some English or are actively learning English. Heck, I give A-chan a lot of credit, too.
and ririka seems to be gearing up for some jp->en crossover herself (and it seems like subaru really wants to and just doesn't yet know english well enough to do it)
I don't even need to watch the video to know it's Subaru. So proud of that duck for how far she's come with her English.
And after you watched the video, she tied with AZKi, which I think is more surprising.
I already expect Subaru to be able to comprehend this lvl of English, but for AZKi, I knew she was good, but not this good.
I’m obsessed with how Miko pronounces animos
no not the "bird" lmao. i love miko sm
Fubuki and Miko in a clip is always a certified good fun laugh time lol.
Tbf if my siblings feel sick and wanna skip school, my reaction will definitely be “are you sure ur sick”
Oh, the conversation around the "unwell" question is interesting. Technically, under the right context, all options can be used to ask someone if they are ok, but also, like Miko mentioned, "What's the matter?" can be asked aggressively which would make it the most inappropriate. Interesting stuff in regards to translation and interpretation between languages that don't share common roots. Thanks for the TL!
"are you sure" sounds like something dr house would say so i say it's not entirely wrong
Based Subaru said "subs over dubs" 😎
"English is hard for me" well Japanese is also hard for you Miko lmao
Good job, Shuba and Azki. And that "30" was kinda good answer too.
At the end of the clip, something very important was said. I've always been of the opinion that subtitles in children's programs combined with a good library network and skilled children's authors were important factors when practically 100% of the population was literate (excluding small children, of course). Unfortunately, we fall further and further away from that 100% every year. One reason is the increase in dubbing. Of course there are others, but maybe this is not the right place to discuss it...
elite dub enjoyer Mikochi
It's really funny to me that people in Japan watch overseas drama with subs like we do with Asian drama/anime.
Subaru's surprisingly quiet in this
I never thought of JP Bros watching western content with subs or dubs. I thought it was just a thing westerners like to bicker about.
I'm pretty sure that debate exists everywhere in the world xD
This reminds me of that post where JP bros discuss what kind of cartoons that they watch.
I saw some European dubs where they don't take out the original voice they just speak louder over the top of it. Truly the worst.
The JP dubs of western media often have top tier anime seiyuu, so sometimes I check them out on Netflix/etc if the option is there. Mamoru Miyano voicing Mario in Mario Bros movie is wild.
i think japan is one of the few countries who’s entertainment/internet is very local
and what i mean by that, is that japan has a an entertainment industry that isn’t reliant on global entertainment like many european countries where english is pretty much a necessity to browse the internet or play games
In japan they have their own internet culture, shows, UA-camrs all in japanese, and any movie or show comes dubbed in japan, which is why they never really take english seriously since everything they need comes in japanese unless they’re really passionate for the original experience
I was laughing when miko wrote "tori" for bread
I love Miko serious face 😂
What an S-tier lineup this is!
08:53 Hell yeah Sui-chan, team subtitle lets-a-go! No way i'm watching or playing dub.
The proper answer is do a mix mash of both just to torture yourself Lol!
The Holomems who speak English with what sounds like cup noodles in their mouths (Botan and Miko immediately come to mind) are so cute. lol
The way they just casually called Miko out. "Did you say that while eating something" XD
Years of ohasuba have trained subaru for this.
Miko ELITE GLOBAL
To be honest that's the best Mikochi sounded in English ever. She's usually all "ueaueaeba"
I think I get it... I think Miko reads English like Hebrew or ancient Egyptian... as in... she just throws away the vowels, and makes the words out of consonants!!!
subaru is so cute she cant handle compliments so she humble herself.. she deserve the praise though, she's really good
Miko looking at a pigeon: Is this a bread ? 💁♂️
Mistaking thirsty for thirty is understandable. It’s still wrong but understandable.
Yeah, I can easily see how one might that mistake.
They didn't really mistook it. Sui-chan and Soda-chan said they know it's not thirty, it's just that they choose the closest word for it and translate it that way lol
@@naokurogamiSame difference lol
The duck will rule all!!! Subaru ready to invade foreign countries with shubashuba efficiency.
love it
Miko can ask me "are you sure" if I'm not feeling well, no problem there!
Poor Mikochi, only have dubbed overseas dramas. 😅
English in holo JP more improve than before, yeah thankyou for a lot Collab with en and id
Subaru!!!!!
Sasuga ELITO MIKO-sama
Wait I thought Miko is EN?
Can't be EN if you don't even know how to PROPERLY SPEAK *_AND_* WRITE EN.
She's Eriito-da-Nye
The only explanation is that her Japanese is worse, so by process of elimination she is EN.
LOL no. She is the least EN of them all.
She is ID. Ask her about 'hidup segan mati tak mau'.
It's only a matter of time until Subaru joins HoloEN
They're gonna trade Bae into JP and Subaru into EN lmao
Like Shion, Miko confused bread and bird.
LET'S GOO! SUBARU THE SUB WATCHER!
Considering how our Duck puts the translated version of what she talks about in her Zatsudan, our oshi is eigo jouzu.
Subaru the patrician understands subs > dubs
Everybody’s so good at A-GO it’s incredible
Idk man when I told my parents I was sick,to not go to school they hit me with the "are you sure?"
Can you use 構う for “care for”? I wasn’t sure about that one actually.
I love when they pronounce English words like they have food in their mouths 😂
Pretty American if you ask me
Fr tho, hololive official channel should really make a series of learnings/studyings of holomem in 3d.
Thats my goated english duck🥺
Sasuga HoloEN’s rank #5 in Japanese
Subaru is one of those smart student in the class who says "I might be wrong", "I'm not good" but ends up having the most correct answer 😂
Based sub watcher subaru.
Holy shit miko actually got the sentence
As expected of holoEN
7:59 i realized that they are maybe thinking of sure meaning okay not sure as affirmative
Bro the title , dont show sora chan😢
Does Azki do English streams occasionally? If not she should give it a go, she's great.
She did one English-only stream a year or two ago, it actually went really well. Hoping she does some more eventually 🙏
As mentioned, she's done it in the past, and she also chatted a decent amount in English with Ollie during their Geoguessr collab. Hope she does more, especially if she networks with her kouhai Ririka. Shachou speaking Eigo is a lot of fun.
Some countries like to dub everything, and Japan is one of them, but I could never really get used to dubbed live-action myself.
Well at least Miko knew Bird will eat bread.
Subaru knows what's what. We really should always watch in subbed rather than dubbed 😄
Subbed is the way to go especially if you want to learn the language even if it is not the proper way to do so.
wow Shuba and AZKi are amazing
"English is kinda hard."
-Sakura Miko, 2024
05:32 is a real burn from Suisei.
30. I'm on the FLOOR.
Imagine Senchou thought you said 30 instead of thirsty.
“Are you 30?”
@@赤ゲキ The age of 30 is in demand!
Besides the fact that Subaru likes watching overseas drama. For those that doesn't know, Subaru went overseas as an exchange student in the past tho I forgot which country was it.
2 weeks only in Canada. Overseas drama is her biggest motivation to learn it and talk about it on online English forum.
I guess having to translate Ohashuba (even if she had help doing it) really helps Subaru's english
You can see which OhaSuba is translated by Hololive translator and by herself. Even though its still jarringly different and obvious, her translation slowly picking up slangs, become more relaxed and overall better.
Wait till they figure out pan is french for bread.
that question #2, i know animal would come right after subject, but when the verb is more than 1 word, it always fucks me up.
Because "sewa" is a noun meaning "care/assistance", so you need to convert it using "suru" (sewa o suru) to verbize it. So, the whole sentence breaks down as "kanojo (she) wa (topic) doubutsu (animals) no (substituting "ga" in a subordinate clause) sewa o suru (take care of) no (turns the proceeding into a subordinate clause) ga (subject of the preceding clause) suki desu (like)". A very literal translation: "Speaking of her, the concept of caring for animals, it is liked."
@@jaycee330 japanese sentence structure is kinda confusing in the more complex sentence. lol but thanks for the explanation.
They really said, "Subs, not dubs," at the end, huh.
2:51 I knew AZKi is good at English, but the silent "T" actually amazed me. Up til now I never understood if there's an actual rule for that or if it just has historical reasons.
Also what's the difference between AZKi's and Subaru's answers here, since both are correct?
No differences. The differences are the person themselves. The way they speak and pronounce are different levels of pronunciation.
that 30 got me LOL
Miko + english = GOLD
we can call her USAbaru
