Oh wow!! This is such great work!! I’m impressed! Fantasy stopped being my main genre a few years ago, so I’m curious to know what is going to trend to give it a go and get back to reading it. I’ve heard so much about Blood over bright haven, so looking forward to seeing it nominated. Congrats on the video, it was great and you got yourself a new follower!
Thank you so much, this took a lot of work! I adored Sword of Kaigen so Blood Over Bright Haven is easily the one I'm looking forward to reading most on this list. I really hope I'm not being too wishful by putting it on my list!!
Since I’m an audiobook reader I didn’t read Blood Over Bright Haven until a couple of days ago. And I loved it. I’ve loved the two books from her that I’ve read. So glad it got an audio release. I hope it qualifies.
I think Goodreads does some curating and doesn't go just by the numbers otherwise VenCo making last year's list doesn't make much sense to me. I could maybe see Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell getting nominated. It's on their Book Picks for 2024 list and currently has a rating of 4.04. I'm pretty sure there'll be at least one book about witches. I'm not sure A Sorceress comes to Call fills that spot, that's more of a fairy tale retelling. So maybe The Book of Witching by C.J. Cooke? Also I could see them maybe add a novel that's kinda literary like with Salman Rushdie's Victory City last year, though no idea what recent release could fit.
Now that the noms have been posted, you're totally right about curation! Two books I didn't have on here because of lower readership made the list . And ironically, they were BOTH books I owned and enjoyed/was anticipating!! And two books I had eliminated made it, so my rules were good but not perfect. They got me pretty close!! I will say, Someone You Can Build a Nest in juuuust missed my list, so I totally agree that was a solid pick. I'd really like to check that one out!
Sunlit Man is definitely a 2023 release. Granted it was released to the wider public in 2024, but still 2023. Also it feels weird for Stormlight Archive 5 not to be nominated this year, but it misses the cut off by a couple of weeks. It should have a good chance of winning 2025.
Sunlit was on a *singular* editor list of 2024 releases. I didn’t even consider it as a possibility until pretty late in the process - but yeah it really doesn’t feel like a significant enough rerelease. Glad W&T will get its shot next year bc 99% chance it has my vote!!
You're so iconic for putting this together...and reminding me how few new releases I read this year
Okay so I need to read the Spellshop asap is what I'm getting from this
and I was spoiled for the romantasy category and I'm shook Spellshop is on it
didn't even realize ML Wang had a new trad published book now!!!
have i even been on bookstagram this year because i haven't heard of half of these books (i fear i've been in romanceland for too long)
I am so glad I can help get you up to speed then!!
This was so interesting! Love how in-depth you went with it all.

I hope so too! Loved Sword of Kaigen. Good to know about the audiobook, always looking for recs on that front!
wow, incredible work!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much!
OMG - If I ever want to invade a small country, I want you to do my recon. Your research is impressive! 🤩
Thank you, luckily I will never use my powers for evil haha!
Wow you killed it! Good job!
(Commenting after seeing the actual nominees)
Thank you thank you, I'd like to thank the Academy and my family lol!! I cannot believe how close I got!

I'm impressed by this!!
Thank you so much! Lots of work went into this haha
Very impressive research, and a great video. I’m subscribing ❤
Thank you so much! This spreadsheet has become my child, haha.
I heard Spreadsheet and came as soon as I could 😂
Also I would love if Blood Over Bright Haven was nominated but I don’t think it will 😢
That's the attitude I like to hear lol
I really hope I'm not being too wishful! I think they'd be doing such a disservice if they don't.
The Library series by Mark Lawrence is a favorite of mine and the series from Mark that is my favorite of all his series.
I have book 1 on my shelf but haven’t read it yet so this is great to hear!!

Before watching this I have 3 possible winners - The Familiar, Emily Wilde or Somewhere Beyond the Sea
I do think Empire of the Damned will be nominated even though EOTV wasn’t, we need some epic fantasy on the list surely
definitely the top three contenders!!
100% agree there should be more high fantasy nominated. Even if it doesn't win bc people don’t want to try it as much :(
