I'm riding a KTM 350 exc-f and smashed my master cylinder yesterday on a trail. I heard that if I move to a smaller bore size the clutch can be easier to pull (and I guess I will have a longer friction zone), but I could not find any info regarding the compatibility of the clutch line and slave with a smaller bore size. I'm happy I came across your video. Looks like I can stay with the same line and slave. Also, I love these levers you demo'ed, going to get them as well. Thanks for a short video which is right on point!
On my 02 ktm 250sx and now on my 18 beta 250rr re is replaced lever with the Mid West Eng. Lever . On my beta it is a 1 finger pull all day long . I don't like the square edges on the lever to I just took a curved file and rounded it off for my comfort . I love them , best money I have spent .
Midwest changes the pivot to basically make it feel like a 9mm Problem with Midwest for me is that it doesn’t fold forward and I will not run full wraps anymore. But I did run a Midwest before when I was a full wrap guy and it’s good (if you’re smart enough to set it up)
@@mricehome messed up jumping some rocks and my hand slipped off the grip and went through the wrap around as I crashed. Luckily I didn’t break my arm but have heard of it happening too many times. Not worth the risk so I’m back in flag style now
I have been running full wrap guards for over 15yrs . I never had a issue like that I have heard about it but when banging through the trees I prefer not to smack my knuckles
Good job Travis. I also have the ASV long/short combo on my Super Tenere. Really nice levers. If I go the 300 route I'm considering the R&Duro Easy Clutch. You are getting your bike dialed in nicely. I'm still rolling on my beat to crud 2012 Beta 498 dual sport. Dang thing refuses to die!! Glad to see you all healed up and back in the saddle my man!!
If you don't have a vacuum bleeder take a large serenge and load it with brake fluid, go from the bottom bleeder port by the engine cover, open the fitting port, push fluid up into the reservoir slowly. Works like a charm, in 5 minutes you will have an air free perfect clutch pull.
Nice! Not sure if someone else covered this, but you can pull the bleed nipple off the pneumatic bleeder and suck the fluid out of the reservoir too. Super handy tool.
Back in the cable clutch days on the Big Island of Hawaii Mauna Kea 200 two day extreme enduro I used a tackle box fish weight scale to check riders clutch pull lb, the pulls varied from 3 to 8 lb pull, some were smooth some were rough and hard pull, I called them DNF clutches.
3-8 sounds really light. Stock is around 15 on these bikes and with this mod plus another we can get them down around 9. I’m probably at 12ish now but the other mod takes pressure off the clutch, not good for the 500
I put a 9 on my 12 ktm 350 xc-f and it's night and day better. I was at the shop the other day and saw a brand new ktm 350 xc-f factory model or 6 days or something (one of the really premium models) and sure enough it had a 9 clutch.
Thank you for the video! Just got my 9mm master clutch. I wondering about the clutch lever. Do you think is this worth the money ? Is make the clutch lighter compared to the original lever ?
It’s slightly longer than the stock lever, which makes it softer. The main thing is that it is adjustable and you can get it exactly where you want it. I run these on all my bikes and love to feel and shape
My ktm 300 2017 had pretty soft clutch stock. Then I put a quite widely used folding lever from aliexpress and now it is even easier…can ride whole day without any fatigue. I tried the 9mm and didnt like it - i would need to keep the lever far from reach or suffer the clutch drag…
My 300 runs a 9mm now and I love it. But, it’s definitely a personal preference and what fits your hand. The 10 definitely requires less throw so as long as you’re happy
Every Single Sunday, I came off a previous gen Husky, not on a '24 KTM. First thing I noticed above all the other changes and dratmatically different ergos is that the Brembo clutch is FAR more resistance than the magura on my old Husky. I have issues with my left hand so this is causing a lot of trouble. I need to do everything I can to reduce the pull weight. Can you advise on what belleville washer to get, and whether it is ok to remove or shorten clutch springs? I am not sure I want more travel. I do not know what the piston size of the magura master cylinder is.
If you have a 500 I wouldn’t go to a softer belleville washer, this much power and it might start spinning. KTM doesn’t use a clutch spring, just the washer. There are 3 settings and they come in the middle so going to a #1 will soften the pull but is also less pressure so it might slip on heavy power As for a lighter pull you can do this 9mm but it is more travel. Or you can go to a Magura like you had before if you are a fan of those. Hope that helps
Have u ever had to adjust the pressure plate to #3 hole? On my 24 300 it engages towards the end of lever throw, it's definitely worse after repeatedly slipping it. I've manually bled it twice after installing 9mm.
If it’s been slipping and you’re in a higher pressure setting the plates are probably worn out and need to be replaced. I usually run on the softest or the middle setting for less pressure. I would also make sure it’s bled properly. KTM clutches usually last forever so it to be dead already is wild
You can go either way. I use a vacuum bleeder on the bottom so it sucks it down and I can just keep adding fluid. This is easier for me and works perfect. But both ways work
I used to run them but don’t like the feel or the fact they don’t fold forward I’d rather run a ASV as they slip on the bars and also fold forward. Couple that with a 9mm master and it’s the best setup there is
-I don’t like the way that lever feels -It doesn’t fold forward in a crash -Too hard to find parts for if something does break I have only tried them briefly so I don’t have a ton of experience. It I’ve never seen one on a pros bike so I’m definitely curious why they aren’t using them.
I had a DRZ 400 years ago. It was a great bike but not capable of what I wanted out of a machine. It’s nice that we can upgrade bikes and parts to suit what we want
Because on a 500 you need the extra pressure or the clutch will slip On my 300 I move to the lighter setting but on a 500 it doesn’t work I also do the clutch master along with adjusting the disc pressure as well
Hey Travis. Followed you for years....... I've been away for awhile so forgive me for asking about your injury. Last I knew, you had the broken ankle a year or two ago, which I thought had healed and you were back to riding. While reading one of the comments today, you replied, "Leg still isn’t good enough to post any videos I consider cool". Is this a different issue?
It's just been an ongoing issue. 3 surgeries later and I still don't trust it all the way. It works but Im scared to try anything that I used to consider fun
Thinking seriously about going this route, im using Midwest on the same bike. Its hard to get set-up perfect an keep free-play in the lever. My bike never was easy to get into neutral but it's almost impossible once it hot unless youre rolling which isnt a huge issue but jus enough to be lil aggravating at times.
I ran a Midwest for a long time but don’t like wrap arounds so I need a folding lever. The 9mm feels great in my option Most KTM don’t like to hit neutral unless you’re rolling.

Great video. I pair the 9mm master with an Oberon aftermarket slave to compliment the master. The clutch is like a trials bike now, soft and smooth.
I haven’t tried a different slave. It was thinking of it. I was looking at a Rekluse but I’ll check that out. Thanks

Hey Travis. Happy to see your making more videos. 9mm you say? ASV C6? There you go spending my money already. I think I'll try this on my excf.
Yes yes and yes :)

KTM sells it for the new gen bikes. Any dealership can get it
