  • So Sad Experiencing RACISM In Africa. first I never expected to experience racism in Africa until I went to one of this local tourist shop company as we wanted to get boards for skating in the desert. as we arrived on the counter with my friends , one from Namibia and other from Canada.
we had to wait for 5minutes to be worked on . other clients walked in as well. this Germany lady decided to work on them first not even caring that we come first before them. she just ignored me just because I was a black person until my friend from Canada said something then she attend to us.
all in all it was an adventurous trip in the sand dons.
    ONE LOVE

I think people are over-reacting. She was actually polite compared to the micro aggression you will get from some tribalistic black people you will meet in Namibia. It's funny how people overlook black on black racism in Namibia but make noise when it involves a white person. That man in Katima who asked Josey if she is Kavambo or not. In Namibia, you get a lot of people asking your tribe even in shops. Next thing, you will be getting stares and funny looks.

The US South is actually better integrated than most of the urban centers in the Northern US. That’s not just my opinion, it’s backed up by hard facts. In the North, the legacy of redlining black neighborhoods still survives and even after segregation ended, the communities that still exist reflect the realities of the past.
In general, the South did a much better job of integration.

I don't think ppl were saying you're Racist for asking the question if anyone did they should be ashamed . But the Question comparing men, asking if "African's prefer African American men or white men, etc" might seem like entertainment but some of the answers are prejudiced & disappointing. So if it isn't used as a learning tool , showing the ppl making the statements how untrue and wrong they are, its not so funny anymore. Like the one girl who said African Americans are all mixed with white🤔 while that might seem funny,it's very misleading and no one is telling them otherwise & so they believe they're right when it could have been a great learning moment.💕🌹loved the vlog, sorry for your experience,I'm African American & experience that almost everyday. I come from a very racist part of the U.S. and know that racism is one of those things that is most often passed down from one generation to the next. Even when people have no experience that would give them even the slightest reason to be racist they are simple because that was what they were taught in childhood. Breaking that cycle is a huge problem.

Racism is nowhere near what people claim in the US. I've lived in the South all of my life, and Appalachia at that. Where I live the population is about 3% Black, the rest is White. I experience more racism in the nearby diverse city, mostly from recent immigrants rather than Whites. Racism has been STOKED for political reasons(especially the Obama era) as I remember racism was rapidly declining in the 80s and 90s. The media is about 50% of the problem and the rest is politicians using it as a tool.

And yes, when Obama become president, racist incidents seemed to increase. Not because of any policies, but because the racist could not tolerate the idea of a black man being president. I don’t think you are racist, I think all of you and many in comments are confusing prejudice and racism. Prejudice is a matter of feeling; it's a hostile or dismissive attitude, a feeling toward people we find different from ourselves in some way, but racism is having power do something to those we are prejudice towards. Racism is a particular kind of prejudice against other human beings, or groups of human beings, and it's usually irrational, it's based on the assumption that there are inequalities among the races. Example of prejudice is calling a black person N word, or other races by derogatory name, racism is what that woman did, she is a white person in position of power denying you service because of your blackeness. There many examples, refusing to sell a person a house or hire them because their race.
What set white people apart from the rest of the world is their ability to institutionalized racism. To justify slavery and colonialism they have come up with a set of beliefs about that justifies racism and tries to make the case for differences that we find are innate, permanent, and are the basis for discrimination, or even for an institution that are based on these differences. In other words, it tends to turn into a kind of inequality or hierarchy based on these ideas. So, you've got to get the ideology in there for it to become racism rather than mere prejudice. In other words when racism is institutionalized even black people will start committing racist act on their own people. White privileges in Africa is a product European institutionalized government racism that is still intact after independence. I watched with sadness your white friend being allowed into Namibia and you an African being denied.
By the way watching this video one would not know Namibia is 87% black nations, next time spend more time in African Namibia. Namibia whites of German extraction are some of the worst racists the world has ever seen. The first genocide in the world was committed by Germans of the Nama and Herero peoples in 1918, 74% of two groups were wiped out. I wish the world was fair and races did not matter, but it does matter, learn from this trip, those of us who spend more years in the west do understand racism, listen to us.

It’s a very standard question to ask if three people are in one group. If you observe closely, the man and woman were standing 2,5 meters apart. The women behind the counter was also trying to ascertain who came first in case they weren’t in a group (that is why she apologised to the white man).
I think what you interpret as “astonished” is more a confused look to affirm her thoughts. If go to any country in the west, that is the standard bad customer service I would get so why are you complaining in Africa about service??

I don't think she was racist for asking whether you are together. It's because she wanted to know whether to address you as a group or solo. That's just normal reception things. It is also not racist to assume that you may not be together. Not because you are different races but because it can be embarrassing to assume that people are together. I actually feel sorry for the lady for being labelled racist without sufficient proof. She provided you guys with all the info required including where to buy the boards. She even looked at you while having the conversation so she didn't ignore you or look down upon you. Out of the 200k white people in this country, Germans are around 30k. Why should they not stay in Namibia if they are Namibians? They contribute to our economy, they pay taxes, and those that own businesses employ a lot of Namibians. And why single out Germans? There are Afrikaners, English, Portuguese. The only locals who should have a say in who should stay should be the indigenous people i.e. the San and Khoi people. Us bantus also migrated here and took over their lands.
