I feel like AVH is leagues ahead of the competition in terms of putting out trance/dance hits for an album or radio or shows.. but his material just doesn't scream "beatbox battle" to me. This year was very tame and very musical, I hope it goes back to the old ways of rhythmind, inkie, saro, brez... I like the hardcore stuff.
ofc this year is very tame and musical, all that stuff was thanks to the second devices for sure, sbx could also be responding to the feedback regarding loop (according to solo fans for sure) being not beatbox enoug?
@@mako_happy I think it was that and also the fact that it made sense for them to get rid of second devices and add it to the producer category with infinite devices. It does make it feel more fair and more like a loop battle rather than who has better equipment
In the second round Bizkit showed why he is the champ of last GBB. This is on an MK1. That is beyond impressive. If you like it or not, that's personal preference. Just look at the judges in that round. These guys know very well that this is pure madness and skill. Overall I can agree with all the decisions that were made from the judges. But this was more a festival than a loopstation battle.
If you want to listen to bizkits rounds he did upload properly mixed versions in his new album "let him cook", his first round did have a major glow up, comparing it to his performance in the small finals, it really sounds great. Definitely something to check out and give a reaction to it maybe?
This is my first year listening to this but I went back and watched 2021, you had real battles like Inky, Bizkit and others. I feel like there was no fight in this year, compared to 2021. Different vibe in 2023. Your look at AVH final song...too funny. It is like where is the counter. It is like Bizkit here is your butt kicking and AVH handed him flowers for it. Lol.
I think since they split loopstation into two different categories (loopstation category, where its just the loopstation, and then producer category, where its the loopstation plus other devices) is what's creating that feeling of the Loopstation category being underwhelming. This is all a guess from my end, but since they made the two categories I think the judging criteria for each is updated. So new loopstation category focuses primarily on how artists can push the limits of the MK1 and MK2 alone with beatboxing and singing. Producer category will have a lot more of what we are used to regarding all the big drops and super cool synth sounds since that category is more revolved around pushing the limits of the MK2 with a bunch of other devices taking it beyond beatboxing.
i think producer should just be 2 device loop tbh and loop stay the same with the one device only stuff, that way its balanced and enough for say like, the people who want normal gbb21 kinda drops and the people who want like normal looping
If you're interested you can watch Inkie's analysis video of this battle. In his opinion AVH won this battle. I don't agree with it, but it's just interesting to hear a completely different point of view and maybe understand some of the judges' decisions in this competition. In general I think the focus this year was the Composition, Structure, Sound Design, Mix etc instead of just drops without any concept.
It's like when I learn new styles on my drums. your style changes to the person you are listening to the most. For my beatbox I have alot of codfish elements cause he's was my inspiration
I feel this year may have fallen flat for you because of how people get into the competition. With it being mainly Wildcards that get people in often times it isnt the wildcard with the best drop or craziest vibe that gets in. But the wildcards with immense replayability, clean mix, solid structure, flawless performance, AND good high points(crazy rap, good drops, etc). Due to this year in particular having 2 rounds of wildcards to choose its participants many of the more loopers with a heavy style in musicality got in(robin, AVH, Josh O, etc). Everyone is also trying to make it outside of GBB cause you can't make a living off of it. And due to the immense time it takes to create loop routines, many make loops that can be put in a playlist AND performed on a battle stage. If different people had won wildcards it'd have been different. But this year was still one of my favorite GBB's ever and can't wait for 2024.
Cliff, you made this point about artists trying to make music instead of battle several times throughout this video and the other 2023 loop videos. I'll agree. That's why Dilip got the boot a few years back. The judging criteria relies (or relied) significantly on what they call "structure", which really is more closely defined as "composure". The judging criteria prefers a pre-meditated, composed, musical set as opposed to on-the-fly battle rounds. It completely removes the "box battle" of the event and just leaves the "beat". It makes it more worth while for artists to just make a "draw bag" of sets they already know when and where they're going to use before the event. It's like watching a scripted free-style... It takes a lot of the "umph" away
You gotta remember these are artist's at the end of the day, Bizkit did release studio versions of all of his rounds. Using GBB essentially as a way to "Build Hype". I don't disagree that it does take away from the "Battle" though. That being said I personally feel Bizkit should have won against Robin, I understand why he didn't. But regardless of who went up against these last two rounds, NO ONE was gonna beat him. ALL ON A MK1. BIZKIT IS A LEGEND!
I totally agree with what you're saying 😅 For some reason, this GBB loop category was more musical than every other GBB I've ever watched, not a lot of "drops" like we're usually used to. Robin, AVH, etc, are the kind of loopers that make music rather than battle rounds and they went really far on the competition. Edit: Actually, a lot of the competitors were really musical loopers, (like Josh O, Matej, yk) idk how to feel about it either haha
Bizkit’s second round was the best battle round of the entire competition. He brought down the sledgehammer and I loved every second of it. I think the split category was a mistake in hindsight. Things don’t become better by disregarding evolution. Multiple device loop battles are much more hype to watch. At a live event, I want hype, not Spotify sound tracks. I think the competition was a bit flat, and I think they overthought it in their judging criteria for the wild cards. Battle energy loopers missed out, and these 8 amazing artists got in. But I think as a consequence the energy level was lower than previous years. I know some people lamented that multiple devices took away from actual beatbox skills, but I don’t see much difference with solo device Mk II anyway. AVH:s rounds don’t really scream Beatbox to me. If I’d sum it up, Bizkit is the exception to a judging preference of good mixing over griminess. My personal preferences are the opposite. When I put on a stank face, I’m loving it. I’m curious about the producer category, hoping it is in the battle format and not solo performances.
Yup I'm officially a fan BizKit. That cat is the only one that gives me shivers up my spine when he plays. I also agree that a lot of the rounds felt like Battle of the Spotify Featured Beat.
Just because you can do one style really well doesn't mean you can't do something else Like bizkit is obviously amazing when it comes to that heavy style with high battle energy but he can also do an amazing musically style I personally think he brought his best material this gbb and im very pleased It just sucks he didn't perform his routines as intended Bizkit is one of the goats for me
The main issue with this year's GBB is that the sense of battle is slowly getting lost, which is kinda concerning to be honest, which leads to the judges judging certain battles from a point of view that is rather subjective. In the case of AVH, he just does not battle, he does not have that aura, but since he knows at this day and age that this is what most people would like, he does his thing. Plus, when I watched the livestream I noticed that he did sound pretty clear. This reminds me of Helium vs K.I battle, I've heard and seen reactions from a ton of people that are fairly new to the community that would say they do not like Helium's rounds at all because there was not that much melody component and it's just a lot of fast percussive sounds that are just not surprising, or people with bias towards a certain genre saying that Inertia should have won hands down because Helium was mostly doing EDM genres, but what they did not understand was that Helium was BATTLING, it's the GRAND. BEATBOX. BATTLE. Altough being melodical is important the sense of battle cannot be lost. P.S. sorry for the long text it's hard for me to explain things briefly 😬
Agh I'm late Cliff, but I was so eager to see you react to Incinerator. Man you blew me away😂Epic reaction. 1. Your doubts regard Bizkit's static feeling in round 1 is explained by Bizkit in his analysis. He said he made some mistakes where he looped bass into distortion channel hence resulting poor clarity. 2. MK1 Vs MK2. MK2 is superior to MK1 interms of quality, audio mix and effects. Naturally you can see the difference as Bizkit is the ONLY ONE THIS YEAR WITH MK1. Bizkit pulled a miracle with MK1, he's A Legend!! And yes, I personally believe the battle element is missing in GBB23 likewise! Esh❤ Can't waittt for your solo wildcards reaction. DAY39: REACT TO DON'T GET IN MY WAY- ZACK HEMSEY
Bizkit couldn’t hear himself on stage even with his headphones so he winged it with his first round. Also he’s using the mk1 still which has a reallly crappy sound board and can only support 3 effects at a time.. he was peaking pretty much the entire time

idk why he's crying. AVH's style isn't for battling, its something to vibe and feel to. I know it's a battle, but AVH got this far using his own style, and to get this far using his own style really shows why he belongs here. I get that you want people to battle at this competition, but you have to understand that there are different styles loopers use.
@@CliffBeatsOfficial I'm sorry about my comment awhile ago. I just didn't like how you reacted to AVH because it felt like that you're expressing that he didn't belong there. But if he wanted to battle battle, then he for sure will make a routine like that. But no, I think he chose to stick to his own style and vibe with the crowd. Again I apologize for my comment
