Großartige Musik, von den mir bekannten Werken Scotts sein magnum opus. Das Hautthema ist sicherlich eines der schönsten in der Filmmusikgeschichte. Danke an Fred für die toll zusammengeschnittene Suite!
I'm deeply ashamed to admit that I had never before heard this score nor paid any serious attention to the work of John Scott. What a big mistake! This score is so incredibly beautiful, with its strong themes and exciting nuances! I keep listening to it very often the last couple of days! Thank you Fred!
I've collected a lot of John Scott film scores through the years and there's a lot to enjoy. A consistently excellent composer over many decades whose particular favorites of mine are: THE LONG DUEL, A STUDY IN TERROR, YOR-HUNTER OF THE FUTURE, SHOGUN MAYEDA, NORTH DALLAS FORTY and THE DECEIVERS.
There is war going on within the Roman Empire. The triumvirate, which divided power among themselves after Caesar's death, now fights itself. Thereupon two, Octavian and Marcus Antonius, turn against each other. Two rulers who couldn't be more different. One who regards the cohesion of the empire as the highest commandment, and the other one who does not want to give up his love for Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt... After years of being one of the most successful actors of his time, Charlton Heston stepped into the shoes as a director with his adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Antony And Cleopatra" in 1972. Surrounded with a handful of estaished actors, such as Hildegarde Neil, Eric Porter and John Castle this story was elaborately staged. The music was contributed by the well known John Scott, mainly known from "The Final Countdown" (1980), who, with "Antony And Cleopatra" gave us another glance of his great musical achievements. The Love Theme sets a caring tone and reminds a bit of Borodin's "Polovetsian Dances" (you know... the famous one...), while "The Barge She Sat In" leaves us impressed with great choral work... While the original music was released on LP at the time, it sadly didn't find its way onto CD. Scott instead re-recorded his entire score in Berlin and the result came out once in 1992 and again in 1998, this time with an added track to make the "complete score" finally complete (for whatever reason it wasn't included the first time). However, you are now listening to a digital transfer of the original (LP) recording with a splendid acoustic and great dynamic range to it. Enjoy!
Yes! Thank you so much for this! I do believe that this album would have become one of my favorite soundtrack albums. Of course, “Ben Hur” will always and forever be my favorite soundtrack album. 😁☮️
I LOVE this! Being a huge Carlton Heston fan, I have this movie. Love the soundtrack and wish I had the original album. This beautifully arranged suite is a perfect substitute. Thank you so much, Soundtrack Fred! Once again, you have made my day! ☮️😊
First heard the main themes on Warriors of the Silver Screen back in the 90s from VOX magazine. This expanded score makes me want to finally seek out this movie. I always loved the last chapter of Julius Caesar's book of Gaul. I cared more about that library in Alexandria being senselessly burned down than the love story. Cleopatra was rather homely if you go by the coins minted with her profile. Must've had a hot body.
Charlton Heston somehow got music to fit how iconic and mythic he is on screen. This score is like Morricone level of how it enhances what is on screen.
I'm just discovering John Scott's music after reading good things about his score to the horrible KING KONG LIVES. I wish this type of film music was still in vogue today. So much more interesting than the sonic wall paper we get in modern film.
Niente male Fred.👍🏻 Charlton Heston, nella sua formazione teatrale e cinematografica, lo definivano il Lawrence Olivier americano. John Scott, lo ricordo per le colonne sonore di "Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes", "The Final Countdown", "Inseminoid" e "Just One Of The Guys". Pensate che in Italia questo film l'hanno distribuito con il titolo "All'ombra delle piramidi".😄
Sorry Max I disagree. This is far more lyrical and Roman/Egyptian. North uses brute force for the Romans in Cleopatra though his love theme is excellent. But with John Scott theres even a nod to Lawrence of Arabia by Jarre. Both are superb. Madds👵
@@maxlinder5262 Max after recently reviewing both films I still stand with my opinion regarding John Scott’s score over Alex North. Much as I admire North I find a great deal of his score extremely bombastic .. though the love theme, with its counterpoint for Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra, works effectively. Scott’s score differs by using a softer more melodic approach. This is perfect for the Shakespearean tragedy. But these are after all our own opinions and likes… Would I take Spartacus over Cleopatra? Would I take Spartacus over Antony and Cleopatra? Certainly no.. Stay safe👵😇
Personally, I think both soundtracks are great in their own way. North’s is more Epic in sound and Scott’s is more lyrical, or poetic. They are both most excellent soundtracks. ☮️
Thank you Fred! Because Of You I Found The Great Music Of John Scott 😊

Scott is one of the best and painfully underutilized in my opinion.
Mark Antony, by Paolo de Ruggiero, is a good book.
Thank you so much Fred! This suite is so great!
This is just fantastic ! I play it every day !

Dear Fred Yesterday I wrote to you with a question under Max Steiner's score The Searchers
Just read and answered! :-)
No offense ment ... doesn't compare to Alex North .."Cleopatra "soundtrack.......
Sorry Max I disagree.
This is far more lyrical and Roman/Egyptian.
North uses brute force for the Romans in Cleopatra though his love theme is excellent.
But with John Scott theres even a nod to Lawrence of Arabia by Jarre.
Both are superb.

@@madlenellul3430 Alex North ' s is more Dramatic & Theme oriented to the scene's of the film. .... that's what I like......just my opinion..........
