    Finally a video where someone cut them open! Thank you ! My neighbor, when I was a girl, had a big tree in her front yard of the big golden yellow loquats, she let us pick whatever we wanted. I’ve been trying to explain loquats to my husband so finally your video shows the inside with the big seeds. Brings back memories of that sweet delicious fruit!

    Thank you for the great video and showing the different varieties. I just recently learned about loquats and bought one on OfferUp since I couldn’t find any in box stores. Don’t know what variety it is but at least I’ll have an idea now once it starts fruiting. Thanks!

    Loquats don’t like to much water. I’m in riverside and my loquat is big I remove my fruit clusters to 4-5 fruit and 7-9 leaves and my fruits are averaging 70grams to 80grams some really nice size this yr.

    Beautiful trees Adrian. I just tried my first loquat yesterday and now, I want my own loquat tree/trees! I kept some seeds so will try to plant them in the ground today:0) Recently, have been looking for loquat trees at home depot, lowes, and Armstrong but unsuccessful. Today, I bought my Champagne loquat at City Farmers Nursery and last month I got my Vista White Loquat from Exotica Vista Nursery :0) Thanks for the information otherwise I thought I hated loquats🙂

    Very nice loquat trees brotha. Did you prune or train your gold nugget at all? Or did you just leave it alone to grow on it’s own? I have a young one. Just curious about how yours became so branchy. Thank you!

  • @timmillan6701

    If you purchase grafted trees, check out the graft area. There should be no growth from below the graft. Growth from the rootstock will be much more vigorous and will soon overtake the desired variety. Trees may look full and lovely, but you will not get the fruit you are looking for. Unlike fruit trees that are grafted on different species ( including loquat on quince), loquat on loquat has similar foliage top and bottom. One giveaway is if only one portion of the tree is fruiting ( grafted variety) and the rest is not. Always check the graft area and make sure to prune out any growth from the understock. I have encountered this problem on multiple occasions- most people don't even realize it. Also, if you live in a marginal area for loquat, best to plant cutting grown instead of grafted - no chance of the tree dying back to the understock. Any regrowth will still be the desired variety on a cutting grown tree. I am growing 11 varieties just north of Seattle

      You answered a question I had. I was pretty sure I had heard that you could grow loquat from cuttings, but it didn't hear that mentioned in this video. I live in the Sacramento valley so there are some people with loquat in my area. I should see if my neighbors fruit are ripe. They offered to let me take cuttings if I wanted to try growing one.

    • @timmillan6701
      @timmillan6701 4 роки тому +1

      @@PatricesProjects Be aware that plants from cuttings may take longer to fruit than grafted ( but not nearly as long as from seed) Since you live in a area that is highly unlikely to see cold damage to loquat ever - I personally would invest in grafted plants for more fruit sooner. However, if that is not a consideration for you, cuttings would be much cheaper, especially if you want a lot of them, and the fruit will be of predictable quality when it does come ( Also be aware that some loquat varieties need cross pollination, and almost all benefit from it. If you do not have loquats, try to get cuttings from at least two different trees that are blooming at the same time for better fruiting down the road)

  • @DovidM

    I thin the fruits to four or five to prevent the branches from breaking. I also prune but mostly to keep the height of the tree low (makes it easier to harvest).

      I have heard that Sloat Garden Center is very reliable for buying trees like loquat. I'm in San Francisco. My tree is really old. I have no idea what the variety is. But the fruit is really good. And the seeds are viable. Prolific. Every year, I have to pull out dozens of sprouted new loquat trees. If I don't, they would overrun the yard. Loquat trees grow like weeds.

    Any loquat grown from seed should not be called it's parental name for it is not the same fruit tree. Air layer it if you want the same tree or graft a scion onto one of your seedlings.

    I've been searching for a large (like 15+ gal) loquat tree from various nurseries for a few years now. Found one at a nursery in San Bernardino, but the nursery closed for good shortly after I contacted them. I should have just planted a 5 gal from Home Depot/Lowe's back when I first started searching!

    • @voiceofraisin241
      @voiceofraisin241 4 роки тому +1

      I wouldn’t buy a 15 gallon anything. They are root bound and will not grow as well as a 5 gallon tree.

    • @LarsSveen
      @LarsSveen 4 роки тому +1

      @@voiceofraisin241 Hmm. That doesn't make sense to me. First: I don't understand why a 15 would be root bound and a 5 not. Seems like either would have equal chance if left in the pot too long. I've planted a lot of 5gal trees that were totally root bound. Second: a 15gal tree is going to be physically much bigger, so I just can't see a 5gal tree overtaking a 15gal tree in growth if planted at the same time.

    Does Vista White Loquat Tree self pollinating, or I need another tree?

    • @DovidM
      @DovidM Рік тому

      Vista White is not self pollinating. If the house next door has a loquat, you may not need to plant another variety of loquat as the bees will take care of it. If there is no nearby loquat and you have the space, you can plant another variety to ensure that the fruit sets.
