Harbor Freight carries a really neat 2in DA sander that I use all the time for small areas rather than that small grinder he was using.
Just an idea that works for me.

This repair would have been far better if you layup both sides of the repair, then just have a small skim to profile, also when doing the layup you should have an overlap between the layers if possible.

Curious as to why you put bondo on the finish side instead of just glassing them both?

I have a fiberglass trailer fender that has a crack from the middle to the outside of the fender. I need to repair it and am wondering if I need to cut out the damaged portion and fill it with fiberglass or put the fiberglass cloth over the crack and just sand the cracked part.
    Thanks- great video!!

Fiberglass is very hard to get off your hands.
Fingernail polish beats most household products. Some of it you just have to wear off.😉

Nice instructional video and you did a great job. This is a video on how to repair fiberglass, correct? Not an annoying frigging music video, right? That noise is highly distracting and hard to watch you and listen to that crap. You don't need props when you do nice work as you do.

Put Baby powder on your hands so that the fiberglass dust does not get into pours. The fiberglass dust will wash off easier. long sleeve shirt and sometimes latex gloves.

It is hard for me to tell. Is the "bondo" spread out onto the painted area? If so, does it later get sanded away to make it flush with the existing paint that does not have bondo on it? I thought I heard where bondo does not adhere to painted surfaces. Is that correct? Excuse my ignorance as I am a beginner.

Why is it bondo on the outside instead of more fiberglass to fill that hole? Thinking about giving this a try on my jeep hard top and want to know all the whys. Thank you.

My opinion, the new fiberglass will be stronger and harder to sand. She trying to flush it out, the paint and older, aged fiberglass will sand away much faster making it difficult to remove the hump you made. Bondo sands easy and if your to aggressive or crate a flat spot, it's easier to put on a new coat and try again.

Here's a question for you, Sir. Sometimes a Corvette or Hot Rod will come into my shop and will have air bubbles (size of a pea) in the paint. I can sand them down and repair them with filler, but sometimes the bubbles will reappear a month or two down the line. What is causing this and how do i stop this?

    • @bluestripes1

fiberglass panel contamination, you can try to bake it out but usually you gotta cut it out

A small hand held sand plaster. Sometimes use a drill bit prior to repair ( like a dentist ).

Does bondo bond to any vehicle material? I’m sure my bike isn’t fiberglass

    • @Casteleiro12
      @Casteleiro12 2 роки тому +2

Ur bike's fairings are made of plastic, the process used to build them is through Compressed molding of this material, fiber glass can be used to fix them but It will become a bit heavier than prev. Depending on the amount u put in (fiber glass).

I quit smoking in 2011, best decision I ever made. I never could get the whole stink after the cigarette, but trust me, that stuff must come through the pores of your skin. Now, someone can walk about 10 feet from me and I can tell they are a smoker.

I'll let you in on another secret don't cut pieces with scissors if you tear off little pieces it will adhere better and be less noticeable on the glass side you never want straight edges on your glass Matt

This guy is full of contriversy. On one hand he gives good, direct, understandable suggestions about the process. On the other hand he totally neglects safety rules. I like how he advices to quit smoking right before blowing in the air all sanded micro material...
