Back in the day Chicago was the crossroads of America. All the train tracks ran through there. Most cattle came up from Texas to Chicago to be slaughtered. Meatpacking district. There was a lot of work in Chicago.

Do us a favor and give it a rest with the arrogant"real Italian" comments. We are perfectly aware that we are Americans and proud of it but also proud of our heritage. Some of us are closer connected. I'm from a Sicilian immigrant family and was raised with a strong sense of my parent's traditions, I speak Sicilian and Italian fluently and have a strong bond with my relatives and friends in the town in Sicily where my ancestors have been for centuries, I have spent numerous times there for long periods of time in our family house and I'm well read on our history.

@@petera618I suspect that some Europeans feel inadequate that Americans can have a dual identity. It threatens their own image of themselves and they become insecure. They've also likely never thought about what it's like to live in a country that their ancestors aren't from.
