For 2-year-old Deacon Ross, that first friend was the man who collects his recycling.
"He struck up this friendship with O Dee," Deacon's mom said.
O Dee rides through every Friday in his garbage truck, and every Friday Deacon waits for him.
"I think that this is Deacon's first friend, that he really understands what friendship is," Deacon's mom said.
When asked who his best friend is, Deacon replies a loud and proud "Ooooo Dee!'
He even wants to name his yet-to-be-born sibling after O Dee.
O Dee greats Deacon with a "What's up, man?" and a fist bump.
Because Deacon's family is growing, they are moving to a bigger house that's off of O Dee's route.
"It's our last day seeing my brother's friend, O Dee," Deacon's older sister said.
As the two parted for what could be the last time O Dee said, "I'll miss you too."

THIS is my America. Not one person in this video thinking about demographics or defining factors. Pure humanity. I love how that garbage man just picks up that little one and treats him like his own. Absolutely adorable. And kudos to Momma for teaching these and instilling this in her little ones at such an early age.

Back in the seventies, we would run outside with our son to watch the garbage truck lift the bins and dump them. There was no one riding on the outside of the truck. Now, it's all done with one person: driver, operator for the lifting and dumping levers. But now it's THREE trucks: 1. garbage, 2. yard waste, and 3. recyclable material. Progress, I guess. Oh, yeah, we did give our boy a toy garbage truck for Christmas.
