brandon hall That’s why I play this song for my 6 year old niece and 11 year old nephew. It’s never too young to learn that women deserve respect, and men should give it. Always makes me annoyed seeing male politicians brushing off women’s issues as if they forgot the only reason they are able to stand there and brush off women’s issues is because a woman brought them into this world.
I also think his attitude of acknowledging shit sucks and the deck is stacked against so many based on the color of your skin, your neighborhood, poverty, etc. but deciding you gotta keep fighting to survive and look towards hope is important for everyone but especially kids. I wish I was a little more prepared for how shitty life really was because it can hit you hard!
This song should be required education!

+riskrask 33 it would be nice if Pac were alive and well out there somewhere. Truth is if he were alive he couldn't stay quiet this long. Money alone wasn't what motivated him to succeed at being a rap artist. If it were the money he was after then he would've pursued acting, not music. He chose rap music because he needed his voice to be heard. He truly felt it was his responsibility to help those who are disadvantaged, regardless of circumstances. He thought of himself as a soldier and a born leader. He definitely would have a lot to say about the escalating level of fraud going on in America right now.. And he's not capable of biting his tongue. The fact that it's been two decades and still no word.. That's proof that he's really gone.

This song is so quintessentially Tupac. It represents everything his rap was about. The amazing beats, the socially groundbreaking lyrics, and emotional impact. Can you imagine Biggie making a song about respecting women? Or Jay-Z, or Nas, or any of the other greats? He made this track on the same album as hit em up, the most brutal diss track of all time that was basically a musical death threat. His social awareness and compassion for others clash with his gangster lifestyle, and that lifestyle ultimately took his life. I wasn't even alive at the time he died, yet I connect with his decades old music. I'm sad his career was tragically shortened but appreciative of all of the amazing music he put out. Despite all his flaws, I feel that the world is a worse place without him in it.

Thanks for saying so... I've spoken to men who are like this and they'll mention women who were like that to them first. It's an immature competition where they come up with an excuse to treat people like crap just to vent their every emotion onto a woman. My eyes have been opened, since then, to the many women who are really harmful to men, but it doesn't mean men should treat other women like this. It keeps the harmful cycle going. I live in a hard place where I don't know anyone, including myself, who was able to stay married, except my grandparents. They were such an inspiration I kept acting like a lovely bride until a man came along who wanted to be a husband. He had addictions and no job when I talked to him about my life style and why I chose it. He's been working, clean and we've been together almost two years now. I reminded him how I came from the same place as him and how alone I am being who I am in this place, but that I'll be who I am no matter what and not allow drugs, opinions, or culture define me. He is such a loving and pure person. I am so happy he dug himself out of that mud - quite literally- and washed himself off and has been living a good life, even if it's still hard where we're from.

I am a grocery store manager. The other day I bought a lunch for a homeless woman and her young son who didn't have enough money of their own. The woman told me she couldn't pay me back and I told her not to worry about it, it was my pleasure. As we were talking, this song came over the intercom and that line "They got money for war but can't feed the poor" resonates with me so hard. That line in this song reminds me of a line in one of Tracy Chapman's songs that says "why are the missiles called peace keepers, when they're aimed to kill." So true, and so much truth in great music, but a lot of people listen to the beat rather than the words to a song - a profound song - and Tupac and Tracy (and others) had things to SAY in their music. It wasn't just a cute little poem made into a song. IT WAS ABOUT REAL LIFE. :(
